Since the culture of M. furfur is impossible, the KOH wet mount and various staining techniques have been applied for identification of the M. furfur. However, these methods still have many disputed points. Practically, the KOH wet mount method is in common use but. there are many difficulties in identifying the fungi. The author intended to suggest an easy and simple method for identification of the fungi, using the KOH and various other staining solutions, and comparing this with many known methods. At the same time, by applying the best method of identification which the author was able to develop, distribution of the fungi in the horny layer and the viability of the fungi during treatment were abserved In identifying the fungi, 1% toluidine blue was most excellent, but hematoxylin, eosin, cotton blue, Giemsa stain, and Wright stain were not so satisfactory. 2. After staining with l% toluidine blue to the skin lesion scotch tape was applied to the lesion briefly and then examined under direct microscope. This was most easy and convenient method. 3. Repeated scotch taping from ] to 12 times produced no change in the distribution of fungi in the horny layer, but after 28 applications there was remarkable reduction of the amount of the fungi and no fungi was demonstrated in groups taped more than 46 times. 4. No influence was noted in the distribution of fungi after repeated irradiation of Ultra-violet light once daily for 18 days. 5. Continous daily application of 25% sodium thiosulfate solution for average 3. 9 days, caused the disappearance of tungi and no fungal elements were found following EO days of successive observation. 6. Application of 2.5% selenium sulfide on alternate day for average 6.2 days, caused the disappearance of fungi and no fungal elements were found following 55- 62 days of successive observation.

This study was performed to investigate the stimulating effect on oocyte maturation and cumulus cell expansion in TC199 media by human cord serum (HCS) supplementation. Immature mouse oocyte cumulus complexes (OCCs) were cultured in TC199 media supplemented with bovine serum albumin (BSA), HCS and human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) instead of luteinizing hormone (LH) respectively, and the expression of cumulus expansion and oocyte maturation were observed. After 4hr and 24hr culture with or without OCCs, media containing 0.4% BSA, 10% HCS and 10 lU hCG respectively were collected and analyzed for changing concentrations of estradiol (E2), progesterone(P4), testosterone(T), and PGF2. There were no elevation of E2, T, and PGF2 by OCCs culture, but minute elevation of P4 level by 24hr OCCs culture in hCG supplementation (p=0.048). The stimulating pattern of cumulus expansion of OCCs by HCS and hCG supplementation was similar to our previously report using Ham's F-10 media, however oocyte maturation rates after 24hr OCCs culture in all media were increased by 20~30% compared to Ham's F-10 media. These results suggest that LH in HCS induce cumulus expansion probably by P4 secretion of OCCs, and TC199 is efficient media for immature mouse oocyte maturation.

Congenital kyphoscoliosis is an abnormal curvature of spine that is due to presence of vertebral anomalies which cause an imbalance in the longitudinal growth of the spine. Congenital kyphoscoliosis is often rigid and its correction can be difficult. It is often resistant to conservative treatment and more patients require surgical treatment than those with idiopathic curvature. The indication for the conservative treatment with Milwaukee brace is much limited. Largely Milwaukee brace is a delaying tactic to correct the spinal curvature until its growth is further advanced and it is more amenable for fusion. This paper was aimed to review our experience with 49 patients with congenital scoliosis, kyphosis and kyphoscoliosis who were treated surgically with various methods of preoperative correction, from Jan. 1968 to Dec. 1983, in special reference to new classification, proposed for common application to both kyphosis and scoliosis, and following results were obtained. 1.The average age when scoliosis was observed was 6.9 years, but the average age of surgery was deferred until 15.2 years. 2. The distribution of curve pattems were 1 cervicothoracic, 24 thoracic, 12 thoracolumbar, 7 lumbar and 1 lumbosacral curve in 45 scoliotic curves and 13 thoracic, 13 thoracolumbar and 4 lumbar curves in 30 kyphotic curves. The average degrees of deformity were most severe in thoracolumbar curves both in kyphosis and scoliosis. 3. The new morphological classification, which could be applicable to both kyphosis and scoliosis, was proposed. The type of unsegmented bar with contralateral hemivertebra was most common both in kyphosis and scoliosis. 4. Preoperative average degrees of scoliosis was 58.7 degrees and final correction was 20.6 degrees (35.1%) with loss of comection of 3.7 degrees (6.3%). Preoperative average degrees of kyphosis was 63.7 degrees and final correction was 20.1 degrees (42.5%) with loss of correction of 7.0 degrees (11.0%). 5. The surgical method with anterior and posterior fusion was the best treatment of severe kyphoscoliossis, in the aspect of final correction and loss of correction. 6. The lumbar curve was most amenable to treatment with the best final correction and the least loss of correction.

Epidermolysis Bullosa Simplex is characterized by autosomal dominant rnheritance, and chronic noninflammatory conditions in which the clinical lesions, erosion, blisters usually result from relatively minor mechanical trauma to the skin, especially joints of hands, elbows, knees, and feet and other sites subject to repeated trauma The lesiona are present or appeared after a few days after birth or shortly after especialy of the lower legs or feet, and not involved at naiIs or mucous membranes. Though infection is not common on the feet or hands, even infected lesions generally heal with out scarring. 2 cases of Epidermolysis bullosa simplex were experienced, the one was 5 month old male baby who had fresh vesiculobullous, hemorrhagic bulla, crusts, exfoliation, no nail dystrophy, since a few days after birth. The another was 5 month old female baby, who had pea sized tense bulla, and exfoliations on the hands and feet. Diagnosis confirmed by clinical features and histological findings. Literature were reviewed in comparison with mechanobulIous disease.

Familial benign chronic pemphigus is characterized by a recurrent eruption of plaques of closely grouped vesicles that most frequently occurs about the neck, axilla and groin, singly or in combination with similar lesions in the intertriginous area. A 27-year-old male has had recurrent vesicles, fissures, maceration and crust formation in inguinal and perianal area for 3 yeare. The lesion manifested circinated form of vesicles, fissured and scaly patches over the inguinal, scrotal and perianal area. There were actively inflammatory border, resembling tinea cruris in the inguinal area. Authors diagnosed with clinical symptoms, laboratory examinations, and light and electron microscopic examination.

We herein report two cases of systemic contact dermatitis probably due to inhalation of mercury. The first case is a 13 year-old boy who developed generalized erythema and dyspnea following the use of a coin-bleaching solution of unknown ingredient in his room. And the second case is a 10 year-old boy who developed generalized scarlatiniform eruptions on his trunk and flexural aspect of his extremities after hreaking a clinical thermometer. The typical clinical feature, the inverted triangular shaped erythema on flexural aspect of inner thigh, were appeared in both patients. On patch testing, they showed positive reactions to mercury and other mercury compounds.
