Ketosis-prone diabetes includes heterogeneous disease groups characterized by provoked or unprovoked ketoacidosis (ketosis), with a typical phenotype of autoimmune type 1 diabetes. As the incidence of obesity and type 2 diabetes is universally increasing, the rate of type 2 diabetes in diabetic ketoacidosis in children and adolescents is exptected to increase rapidly. The clinical presentation of atypical ketoacidosis with type 2 diabetes has been reported mostly in adults. We recently experienced a case of a 10-year-old obese girl with new-onset type 2 diabetes who initially presented with severe diabetic ketoacidosis, and introduce it with literature reviews.

3.A Case of Levamisole Treatment for Kimura's Disease-Associated Nephrotic Syndrome.

Kimura's disease is a chronic inflammatory soft tissue disorder with peripheral eosinophila and high serum IgE. It might be associated with nephrotic syndrome. We report a 6-year-old boy with Kimura's disease and the concurrent steroid dependant minimal change nephrotic syndrome. With levamisole treatment fot 24 months, tumor progression and relapse of the associated nephrotic syndrome were not observed.

4.The development and effects of a COVID-19 nursing education program for nursing students

Purpose:
This study was conducted to develop and test the effects of a coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) education program for nursing students.
Methods:
This study used a non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest design. A total of 71 undergraduate nursing students who had completed a fundamental nursing course and were in their third or fourth year of university participated in this study (experimental group n=38, control group n=33). The COVID-19 education program was developed according to the stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The program consisted of three weekly sessions that each lasted about two hours. The data were collected from February 26 to March 26, 2022 and were analyzed using the chi-squared, Fisher’s exact, and independent t-tests.
Results:
Knowledge about COVID-19, knowledge about personal protective equipment and attitudes toward COVID-19 were not significantly different between the experimental and control groups. However, significant differences were found between the experimental and control groups regarding their confidence in COVID-19 patient nursing care (t=3.02, p=.004).
Conclusion
It was confirmed that the developed program was effective in enhancing the confidence of nursing students in performing nursing for COVID-19. Therefore, it is proposed that the education program developed in this study be used as part of an infection control education program to improve nursing students’ abilities to respond to emerging infectious diseases, including COVID-19.

Hybrid simulation has emerged to increase the practicality of simulation training by combining simulators and standardized patient (SP) that implement realistic clinical environments at a high level. This study aimed to develop a hybrid simulation program focused on case of pediatric cardiac catheterization and to evaluate its effectiveness. Methods: The hybrid simulation program was developed according to the Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluate (ADDIE) model. And deep learning-based analysis program was used to analyze non-verbal communication with SP and applied it for debriefing sessions. To verify the effect of the program, a quasi-experimental study using a random assignment design was conducted. In total, 48 nursing students (n=24 in the experimental group; n=24 in the control group) participated in the study.
Results:
Knowledge (F=3.53, p=.038), confidence in clinical performance (F=9.73, p<.001), and communication self-efficacy (F=5.20, p=.007) showed a significant difference in both groups and interaction between time points, and the communication ability of the experimental group increased significantly (t=3.32, p=.003).
Conclusion
Hybrid simulation program developed in this study has been proven effective, it can be implemented in child nursing education. Future research should focus on developing and incorporating various hybrid simulation programs using SP into the nursing curriculum and evaluating their effectiveness.
6.Factors affecting senior nursing students’ willingness to palliative care

Purpose:
This study was conducted to identify the level of senior nursing students’ knowledge about palliative care, meaning of life, and willingness to palliative care and to identify factors affecting their willingness to palliative care.
Methods:
Data were collected from 192 senior nursing students at six nursing schools in four cities in Korea from December 8, 2022 to January 5, 2023. Descriptive statistics, an independent t-test, Pearson’s correlation, and multiple linear regression test were used to analyze the data.
Results:
The mean±standard deviation score of knowledge about palliative care and meaning of life were 8.44±2.20 and 146.48±19.32. Factors affecting senior nursing students’ willingness to palliative care were the knowledge about palliative care (β=.18, p=.005), meaning of life (β=.36, p<.001), and motivation for admission into a nursing school based on aptitude and interest (β=.16, p=.020).
Conclusion
It is necessary to develop a nursing education program for enhancing knowledge about palliative care and meaning of life to prepare the palliative care competency of nursing students.

8.Incidence of falls and fall-related characteristics in hospitalized children in South Korea: a descriptive study

Purpose:
With the recent increase in interest in patient safety, prevention of falls in hospitalized children has become important. This study aimed to identify the incidence rate of falls among hospitalized children and explore fall-related characteristics.
Methods:
This retrospective descriptive study analyzed the medical information of 18,119 patients aged <18 years admitted to a general hospital in South Korea from electronic medical records and fall event reports between January 1, 2018, and September 30, 2023. The study variables included the general and clinical characteristics of the fall group and fall-related characteristics of the fall events. This study employed descriptive statistics and a chi-square test using IBM SPSS version 26.0.
Results
Among the patients, 82 fall events were identified. Therefore, the fall incidence rate was 4.5 falls per 1,000 patients. Furthermore, a statistically significant difference was found concerning the type of injury sustained between children >1 year old and those <1 year old, and most cases had no damage or bruises. More cases were found in which falls occurred two days after hospitalization in winter and summer than on the day or the day after hospitalization, which was a statistically significant difference. In addition, fall prevalence was higher between 8 am and 4 pm, and when no caregiver was present. Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, education and interventions to prevent fall events in infants and toddlers should persist throughout hospitalization, and it is necessary to guide continuous management and observation of the caregivers.
9.Trends of the researches related to ethical topic in Korean nursing students

Purpose:
The purpose of this study is to explore the trends of research related to ethical topics in Korean nursing students.
Methods:
A total of 131 articles that were published from 2000 to 2020 were analyzed and summarized according to publishing type, research design, subject, data analysis method, main research topic, research variables and instrument.
Results:
Most studies were journal articles (93.9%) and their most frequent research design was survey (75.7%). The research subjects covered all grades (35.1%) or they were divided between clinical nursing practicum (29.8%) or not (21.4%). The main research topics were biomedical ethics, ethical values, moral judgment and ethics education. Recently, ethical decision making and practical ability in nursing practice were reported. The instruments for measuring variables were limited and the same tools were used several times.
Conclusion
Based on the findings of this study, it is suggested that the selection of various research topics and the application of research methods related to ethics for nursing students will continue in response to rapidly changing social phenomena in the future. In particular, it is necessary that research related to ethical and practical ability as well as ethical attitudes and perceptions of nursing students be actively carried out.
