Fracuture-dislocation of the cuboid is an extremely rere injury compared with fracture-dislocation of other tarsal bones. We report a case of the fracture-dislocation of the cuboid treated by open reduction and internal fixation.

Heat treatment which removes internal stress enhances the mechanical properties of the orthodontic arch wire. The main purpose of this experiment was to investigate the effects of the heat treatment on the mechanical properties of the Elgiloy wire. The Elgiloy wire, 0.016" X 0.022" and 0.018" X 0.025", were heat treated in an electric oven for 5, 10 and 15 minutes at selected temperatures between 300 and 900degreesC. Tensile strength and load deflection rate were measured to reveal the changes of mechanical property at various con?ditions, and each specimen was observed under metallurgic microscope. Also to trace the precipitation material due to overheat treatment, a qualitative analysis was carried out with EDS system. It was found that heat treatment at a low temperature caused an increase in the tensile strength and bending resistance, and a maintenance in the fibrous in the tensile strength and bending resistance, and a maintenance in the fibrous structure of both sizes of wire. The changes observed in properties and appearance were probably due to the relief of internal stresses incurred in the metal during cold working. In both sizes of wire the tensile strength and the bending resistance continued to decrease at high temperature, and the fibrous structure continued to disappear then was not observed at 900degreesC. The carbide precipitation founded in grain boundary at 750degreesC probably was other elements carbide (Ni, Co) except Cr. The grain growth was observed at 1100degreesC. Optimum heat treatment for the 0.016" X 0.022" Elgiloy wire was 10 minutes at 500degreesC, and for the 0.018" X 0.025" Elgiloy wire it was 5 to 15 minutes at 500degreesC.

Journal of Dental Rehabilitation and Applied Science 2021;37(4):225-231
Purpose:
There are many studies on the indications and efficacy of splint therapy commonly used in patients with temporomandibular disorders (TMD). However, there have been no studies on the splint weaning in terms of the splint use tapering period in relation to symptom improvement of TMD. This retrospective study aims to analyze a proper splint weaning method in patients with TMD based on symptom improvement.
Materials and Methods:
The authors examined 130 TMD patients with TMJ disorders, masticatory muscle disorders, and clenching/bruxism who had received splint therapy (occlusion stabilization splint, anterior positioning splint) of patients who visited the Department of Orofacial Pain and Oral Medicine at Yonsei University Dental Hospital from 2015 to 2020. They were evaluated according to the method to wean splints.
Results:
The mean splint therapy period was 29.0 months, during which patients wore splints 7 days a week for 8.4 months, 3 - 4 days a week for 9.5 months, and finally 1 - 2 days a week for 11.1 months (a total of 29.0 months, about 2.5 years).
Conclusion
It seems that TMD symptoms can be alleviated and side effects such as occlusal change can be minimized if patients wear a splint 7 days a week for the first 6 months, followed by 3 - 4 days a week for the next 6 to 18 months, and finally 1 - 2 days a week after 18 months.

Korean Journal of Dermatology 1999;37(7):931-934
Necrotizing sialometaplasia is a rare, benign, variably ulcerated, self-limiting disease of minor salivary glands. It may be frequently confused both clinically and histologically with squamous cell carcinoma or a minor salivary gland neoplasm. We present a case of necrotizing sialometaplasia on the inner surface of the lower lip developed in a 16-year-old man. To our knowledge, this is the first case repoit of necrotizing sialometaplasia in the Korean literature.

Exposure to lead during pregnancy is a risk factor for the development of psychiatric disorders in the offspring. In this study, we investigated whether exposure to low levels of lead acetate (0.2%) in drinking water during pregnancy and lactation causes behavioral impairment and affects the expression of proteins associated with neurodevelopment. Lead exposure altered several parameters in rat offspring compared with those unexposed in open-field, social interaction, and pre-pulse inhibition tests. These parameters were restored to normal levels after clozapine treatment. Western blot and immunohistochemical analyses of the hippocampus revealed that several neurodevelopmental proteins were downregulated in lead-exposed rats. The expression was normalized after clozapine treatment (5 mg/kg/day, postnatal day 35–56). These findings demonstrate that downregulation of several proteins in lead-exposed rats affected subsequent behavioral changes. Our results suggest that lead exposure in early life may induce psychiatric disorders and treatment with antipsychotics such as clozapine may reduce their incidence.

Journal of Korean Society of Spine Surgery 2008;15(2):106-110
There is a broad range of lumbar pedicular and neural arch anomalies, with spina bifida occulta and spondylolysis being especially common. It is very rare for a pedicular cleft to be associated with contralateral spondylolysis in the same vertebral segment. We observed L4 spondylolisthesis, clefting of the left L4 hypertrophied pedicle associated with contralateral spondylolysis, and spinal stenosis on a radiographic study of the lumbar spine. Operative treatment was performed, with posterior decompression, partial removal of the hypertrophied pedicle, posterior lumbar interbody fusion using a cage, and posterior instrumentation. The patient's neurologic symptoms resolved after operative treatment. Fusion of the left pedicle cleft was observed on 6-month follow-up CT. We report one case of pedicular cleft fusion using pedicle screw fixation and present a review of the relevant literature.

Journal of the Korean Society for Surgery of the Hand 2014;19(4):189-194
Adequate debridement and flap operations are effective treatment methods for chronic osteomyelitis. Several flap operations have been described for treating chronic osteomyelitis in various regions. We performed anterolateral thigh fasciocutaneous free flap and iliac bone graft for treating posttraumatic chronic osteomyelitis in hand. The result was successful with satisfactory control of osteomyelitis and avoiding amputation of fingers.

Asian Spine Journal 2012;6(3):199-202
The prevalence of intervertebral disc herniation (IDH) of the thoracic spine is rare compared to the cervical or lumbar spine. In particular, IDH of the upper thoracic spine is extremely rare. We report the case of T1-2 IDH and its treatment, with a literature review. A 37-year-old male patient visited our hospital due to radiating pain at the left upper extremity and weakness of grip power. In cervical spine magnetic resonance images, T1-2 disc space showed herniated disc material and compressed T1 root was identified. Laminoforaminotomy was performed with a posterior approach. The radiating pain and weakness of grip power improved immediately after the surgery. Of patients who show radiating pain or numbness at the medial aspect of forearm, or weakness of intrinsic muscle of hand, can be suspected to have T1 radiculopathy. A detailed physical examination and a radiologic evaluation including this area should be required for the T1 radiculopathy.
