PURPOSE: This study was to provide understanding of the meaning of the transition experiences in pregnancy and childbirth among the married immigrant women. METHODS: Data was collected through a face-to-face interview from 11 married immigrant women. Their conjugal lives were followed using the hermeneutics phenomenological method developed by van Manen: focusing on the meaning of lived experience. RESULTS: The essential themes that were associated with the transition experiences of the participants' lives during pregnancy and childbirth were as follows: "entering a strange world filled with chaos and tension where they feel like outsiders", "being pregnant and giving birth in increasingly difficult times", "giving birth to a child, which strengthens them to persevere through painful life experiences", "receiving greater support from their families". CONCLUSION: It contributes a deeper understanding of the essence of the transition experiences of married immigrant women who undergo pregnancy and childbirth after immigration. On the basis of this understanding, this study would be likely to highlight the importance of establishing an appropriate health and medicare systems and the expert network of nursing care for immigrant wom.

PURPOSE: This study was to develop and evaluate a health promotion program for women with osteoarthritis. METHODS: The research adopted the nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design. The subjects were 34 in the experimental group and 34 in the control group sampled among vulnerable women aged over 40. The independent variable was the health promotion program, and the dependent variables were perceived health status, balance, K-WOMAC, depression, life satisfaction and health promoting behavior. The health promotion program was performed for 50minutes each session, twice a week and for 8 weeks. Data were collected from July 1 to September 11, 2010. RESULTS: The experimental group showed significant differences in perceived health status, balance, WOMAC pain, WOMAC difficulty of performing activity, depression, and health promoting behavior compared to the control group. There was no significant difference in WOMAC stiffness, waist, weight, and life-satisfaction. CONCLUSION: The results of this study suggest that the health promotion program can be applied in degenerative arthritis education to improve self-care.

Angiography has been playing important roles in diagnosis and treatment in the field of orthopaedic surgery. Conventional angiography is the most reliable and widely used method in diagnosis of peripheral arterial disease. But the clinical use of the conventional angiography has been limited by the risk of possible complications and time-consuming procedures. Radionuclide sngiography is rapidly performed, rapidly interpretable and time-saving procedure for the visualization of arterial tree prior to vascular intervention in the critically ill patient. We have analyzed and compared the 22 cases who had taken radionuclide angiography and conventional angiography simultaneously from November, 1986 to August, 1987 in Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Hanysng University Hospital. The results were as follow 1. Radionuclide angiography is simple, non-invasive, accurste, reproducible method. It eliminstes the discomfort and morbidity of conventional angiography and can be done on an outpatient basis at a much lower cost. It is useful in the patients who may be allergic to the contrast medium. 2. In cases of arterial occlusion, radionuclide angiogrpahy is also useful in the evsluation of obstruction of major artery and can be substituted for conventionsl angiography. 3. For the purpose of evaluation of success in the cases of vascular reconstruction, radionuclide angiogrphy also demonstrate the vasculsr blood flow without any risk. 4. Although rsdionuclide angiography has limitstion in snatomic detsil, it could be psrtially substituted for conventionsl angiography in the diagnosis of vascular anomalies or tumors.

Fine needle aspiration biopsy cytology (FNA) for diagnosis of a variety of breast tum- ors has been proven to be a simple, safe, and cost saving diagnostic methodology with high accuracy. Cytologic specimens from 1,029 fine needle aspirations of the breast during last 3-year period were reviewed and subsequent biopsies from 107 breast lesions were reevaluated for cytohistological correlation. FNA had a sensitivity of 81.6% and a specificity of 98.3%. One out of 107 cases bio- psied revealed a false positive result (0.9%) and the case was due to misinterpretation of apocrine metaplastic cells in necrotic backgound as malignant cells. A false negative rate was 8.4% (9 of 107 cases biopsied). Six of 9 false negative cases were resulted from insufficient aspirates for diagnosis, and remaining three of 9 false negative cases revealed extensive necrosis with no or scanty viable cells on smears. The results indicate that for reducing false positive and false negative rates of FNA, an experienced cytopathologist and a proficient aspirator are of great importance.
