Follow-up sonographic studies of three infants, whose initial sonograms showed findings suggestive of choledochal cyst, demonstrated disappearance of cystic dilatation of the common bile ducts. The phenomena could be accounted for by acute common bile duct obstruction secondary to bile sludge. Bile plug syndrome should also be included in the differencial diagnosis. When a cystic or fusiform dilatation of the common bile duct is seen on sonogram. Conservative management must be the choice of approach unless the finding is proven to unchanged over a period of time and irreversible.

PURPOSE: This study was to verify the effects of a fluid therapy education program for aged stroke patients for preventing dehydration, pyuria and bacteriuria. METHODS: The study employed a non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest design in quasi experimental basis. Subjects were 38 stroke patients (20 in the experimental group and 18 in the control group) older than 65, hospitalized in a senior care center in S city, Korea. RESULTS: The amount of daily average fluid intake, normal ratio of blood urea nitrogen-creatinine ratio, serum Na+ and urine white blood cells were increased significantly in the experimental group. Normal ratio of bacteriuria increased in the experimental group, but not significantly. CONCLUSION: The education program is considered to be an effective nursing intervention tool for preventing dehydration and urinary tract infections which related to the secondary wellness of aged stroke patients. However, longer term study is necessary for better quality of nursing and developing more specific education programs for aged stroke patients usually hospitalized for a long period of time.

The benign teratoma is usually slow growing tumor, but we expirienced a case of primary huge mediastinal benign teratoma that had grown very rapidly, maximally during 3 years. The 14-year-old female patient was admitted to our hospital because of abnormal chest X-ray that showed 10x10cm sized well definded mass with multiple calcificactions. but the mass was not present in chest X-ray perfomed on 3 years prior to admission. Under the diagnosis of teratoma, complete surgical resection was done by the left thoracotomy. The result of pathology was benign teratoma.

Carcinosarcoma of the esophagus have an interesting pathologic feature of admixture of carcinomatous and sarcomatous lesion and accounts for 0.5~1.5% of all esophageal neoplasm. Generally, it has been reported that these have better prognosis than the squamous cell carcinoma. We have experienced two cases of carcinosarcoma occurring at the mid-esophagus. In both two cases, Ivor Lewis operation was performed and lymph node metastasis was absent. The pathologic diagnosis was confirmed as carcinosarcoma. Postoperative course was uneventful and the patients have been followed up for 3 months and 3 years, respectively, without any problems. We report these cases with a brief review of the literatures.

OVJECTIVES: As the attention devoted to children's mental health increases, medical costs and burdens mount as well. In the present study, we evaluated the association between socioeconomic status (SES) and major child psychiatric symptoms. METHODS: The subjects of this study were children of recruited from a mental health screening program in the Seoul Sungbuk mental health center over the course of 3 months. To establish the SES of each child, we collected data about each child's medical insurance, years of parental education, household income, family structure and housing. 149 children& parents completed questionnaires including the Childhood Depression Inventory (CDI) and the Korean Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Rating Scale (K-ARS). RESULTS: The mean K-ARS-P score was 12.1+/-11.1 and the suspected prevalence of ADHD was 20.8% (n=31). The mean CDI score was 12.9+/-7.9, and the prevalence of suspected depression was 16.8% (25). Depressive symptoms and ADHD symptoms were both more severe than those observed in a previous epidemiologic study in Korea. Depressive symptoms were more closely associated with family SES status. CONCLUSION: SES status is one of the most important risk factors in the development of major child psychiatric symptoms. In our study we found that depressive symptoms in particular were most tightly associated with psychosocial factors. Evaluation of the risk factors, early screening and intervention for low SES children would be valuable mental health management tactics to implement in a community mental health system.

Mondor's disease is a superficial thrombophlebitis of anterolateral chest wall. The exact cause is unclear, but it is suggested that Mondor's disease is often associated with recent local trauma, muscular strain, or breast surgery. We report two cases with Mondor's disease who had malignant lymphoma. The coagulation profile was normal in both patients. The nodule involuted with analgesics within several months. The possibility of Mondor's disease associated with hypercoagulable state from malignancy may be suggested.
