Extra-adrenal paragangliomas are rare tumors of neural crest origin, usually arising from the carotid bodies, the glomus jugulare, or the retroperitoneum. And, though ten percents of cases are presented with malignancy, it`s prognosis is relatively good. In genitourinary area, there are a few reported cases of extra-adrenal paragangliomas of the urinary bladder and the spermatic cord. Herein, we report a case of paraganglioma arising in the scrotum, which is an extremely rare location.

BACKGROUND: Reticulocyte counts provide clinically useful informations and the most widely used method for counting reticulocytes is a manual microscopic procedure. Although manual method is inexpensive and relatively simple to perform, it is labor intensive and imprecise. So, more rapid and more reproducible methods are needed. METHODS: Reticulocyte counts on 96 blood samples were performed by conventional manual method, H*3 RTX(TM)(Bayer, U.S.A.), and FACScan(TM)(Beckon Dickinson, U.S.A.). The changes of reticulocyte count after storage of samples and certain time intervals after preparation were also examined. RESULTS: Reticulocyte counts(%) by manual method, H*3 RTX(TM), and FACScanM were 2.05+/-2.16, 1.95+/-2.24 and 2.51+/-1.94, respectively. There was no statistically significant differences between manual counting and H*3 RTX(TM)(P>0.05). However, there were significant differences between H*3 RTX(TM) and FACScan(TM), manual counting and FACScan(TM)(P<0.05). Correlation coefficients of three comparisons were all above 0.920. Statistically not confirmed the reticulocytosis sample showed decreasing tendency of reticuocyte count by H*3 RTX(TM) after storage of the sample and prepared sample and others were relatively stable in H*3 RTX(TM)and FACScan(TM). CONCLUSIONS: The result of the mean difference between H*3 RTX(TM) and manual counting is statistically insignificant. So, the H*3 RTX(TM)can be used interchangeably with manual counting atter consideration of cost-effectiveness.

Journal of the Korean Radiological Society 1995;32(6):917-921
PURPOSE: To evaluate the diagnostic accuracy and clinical utility of percutaneous needle biopsy of the bony lesions. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Among 100 consecutive patients who underwent percutaneous needle biopsy of bony lesions, 96 patients who were diagnosed ultimately by surgery, or by clinical and radiological follow-up over 6 months were reviewed in this study. Biopsy sites were in the long bones in 51, axial bones in 45. Twelve biopsies were performed under CT guidance and the remainder were guided under fluoroscopy. The categories for the suspected diagnosis included 25 primary malignant tumors, 21 benign tumors, 31 metastases, 13 infections, and 6 miscellaneous lesions. RESULTS: Of the 96 biopsies, 86(89.6%) were adequate for the diagnosis out of which 81 were ultimately confirmed as true-positive or true-negative with the overall diagnostic accuracy rate of 94.2%. Diagnostic accuracy according to the suspected diagnosis was 91.3% in primary malignant tumors, 90.3% in metastases, and 100% in infections, benign tumors, and miscellaneous lesions. Respective diagnostic yield was 90.3% in metastases, 84.6% in infections, 84% in primary malignant tumors, 71.4% in benign tumors, and 100% in miscellaneous lesions. Both diagnostic accuracy and diagnostic yield differed little with the lesion location. No complication was observed in our series. CONCLUSION: Percutaneous needle biopsy of bony lesion is a safe procedure, offering high diagnostic accuracy and high clinical utility.

Korean Circulation Journal 1997;27(9):927-932
We report a case of 70-year-old woman who had bilateral coronary arteriovenous fistula(CAVF) and treated with percutaneous transcatheter coil embolization. Enlarged LV and reduced global LV systolic function were demonstrated on transthoracic echocardiography. Coronary angiography revealed a large coronary arteriovenous fistula from the right coronary artery to the main pulmonary artery and a small fistula from the left coronary artery to the main pulmonary artery. Percutaneous transcatheter coil embolization for CAVF from the right coronary artery to the main pulmonary artery was successfully performed with symptomatic improvement.

Journal of the Korean Academy of Family Medicine 1997;18(12):1469-1482
BACKGROUND: The interest of medicine was moved from disease treatment to disease prevention and health promotion. Especially, there has been marked increased interest in health promotion recently. Perception and health behaviors held or acquired during medical training can influence the acceptance and prevention strategies. This exploratory study surveyed medical and non-medical student to assess both preventive health behaviors and perception, to find relations of personal behaviors and corresponding perception. METHODS: This survey were conducted 140 medical students and 131 non-medical students in one big city. Data were obtained by self-reported questionnaire. Weschler survey was adapted to assess perception toward preventive behavior, and Fantastic lifestyle was adapt,ed to assess health behavior. RESULTS: Among the questionnaire of perception of preventive behavior, quitting cigarette smoking ranked highest frequency as very important in medical student. In non-medical student, use seat-belt is ranked highest frequency. Mean score of FANTASTIC lifestyle is 29.98 in medical student, 28.86 in non-medical. The result show significant relationship between st,udent-reported behavior and corresponding perception in 6 qestionnaire that is eat breakfast, moderate or no alcohol use, eliminate smoking, use seat belt, limit coffee, get seven hours sleep. CONCLUSIONS: In comparing medical and non-medical students, health perception and health behavior were no significant difference. Overall, the result indicated that the preponderance of respondents that is engaging in health behaviors are high in health perception.
