The result of studying papers about management of lower back pain published in domestic and foreign nursing and medical magazines in these 10 years is as follows; 1. General characteristic of lower back pain; 1) In sex distribution, there were more men than women in 5 papers and more women than men in 4 papers among 9 papers surveryed. 2) In age distribution, thirties to forties of patients had more lower back pain as surveyed by general hospitals and fifties to sixties of patients had more lower back pain as surveyed by oriental medical hospitals. 3) In cause factor, there were 50 to 65% of sprain, 32 to 44% of herniated intervertebral disc and 13 to 29% of degenerative changes. 4) In symtom distribution, there were 26 to 57% of lower back pain, 42 to 65% of lower back pain with radiating pain and 34 to 99% of paravertevral muscle spasm. 5) In period of pain management distribution, 18 to 40% of patients experienced pain for Jess than 6 months and 59 to 82% of them experienced pain for more than 6 months in 3 papers among 4 papers. 6) In surveying the treatment, 66 to 88% of patients had conservative treatment and there were treatments of general hospital, oriental medicine, self remedy and traditional practice in conservative treatment. 7) In job distribution, 12 to 50% of them were housekeepers, 23 to 31% office workers, 4.6 to 36% blue color workers and 11 to 15% students. 2. As psychological character lower back pain paients had anxiety, depression, anger-hostility, phobic anxiety, neurasthenia, hypochondriasis, and interpersonal sensitivity. 3. To distinguish the cause of lower back pain, plain lumbar roentgenogram, straight leg rasing test, eletromyelogic findings, somatosensory evoked potentials CT and MRI were performed. 4. To relieve lower back pain, epidural adhesiolysis, epidulal injection of local anesthetic in mixture with steroid, lumbar spinal root block, low level laser therapy, acupuncture like transcutaneous nerve stimulation(ALTENS), topical capsaicin and lumbar orthotics were used in medical field, and relaxation technique was used in nursing field. 5. Mckenzie's extension exercise and William's flexsion exercise for lower back pain were used in medical field and Yoga exercise was applied in nursing field. 6. The more school education and self efficacy were high, the better they had active coping lower back pain positively and the less self efficacy was the more they had serious pain. As a result of studying the paper there have been very little research for lower back pain in nursing fields of Korea and foreign countries. Because 60 to 80% of population expeience lower back pain at least more than once, it is necessary to develop the study and clinical practice for management of lower back pain.

The purpose of this study is to suggest the menu patters of people in Kangbukgu for the basic data of the nutrition education program in its health center. The dietary intake was investigated by the 24-hour recall method for 488 subjects. To analyze patterns, dishes were classified into major staple food, kimchi, soup and side dishes and also classified into 24 categories by cooking method. Patterns by the kind of dishes for the subjects were cooked rice + soup + kimchi cooked rice + kimchi in the order of frequency of use. Patterns for breakfast were, cooked rice + soup + kimchi > coated rice + soup + two dishes of kimchi. For lunch, patterns were, noodle + kimchi > footed rice + kimchi = cooked rice + soup + kimchi. For dinner, patterns were, cooked rice + soup + kimchi = cooked rice + kimchi > noodle + kimchi. Results of analyzing by the number of dishes, were cooked rice + soup + kimchi + one side dish bread in that order. It was significantly different by meal(p<0.01). The results of analyzing patterns, with those considered basic food, cooked rice, soup and stew, were cooked rice + soup > cooked rice > cooked rice + stew. It was significantly different by meal(p<0.01). With these results, the menu patterns of people in Kangbukgu were different by meal. The main dish was mostly cooked rice and the menu has the traditional menu patters, composed of cooked rice, soup and kimchi.

BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to assess demographics, clinical outcomes, and complications of classic floating elbow in adults. METHODS: Six patients with ipsilateral diaphyseal fractures of the humerus, radius, and ulna were reviewed retrospectively. All patients were treated operatively and available for follow-up at a minimum of 1 year after surgery. The average age of the patients was 45.2 years (22-64 years) and the average follow-up period was 37.0 months (14-103 months). They were evaluated with postoperative outcome measures, including a visual analog scale (VAS) for pain, Mayo elbow performance score (MEPS), and American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES) shoulder score. Residual complications were also evaluated. RESULTS: Five patients (83.3%) had open fracture, and 4 patients (66.7%) presented with associated nerve injury. All fractures were united within postoperative 4 months, except 1 delayed union. The average VAS pain score, MEPS, and ASES shoulder score at the final follow-up examination was 2.5, 79.8, and 67.5 respectively. Three patients including 2 cases of joint stiffness with incomplete recovery from nerve injury and 1 case of complex regional pain syndrome had poor clinical outcome. CONCLUSIONS: Although the classic floating elbow is rare, these injuries potentially have associated problems such as open fracture or nerve injury. The presence of residual neurological symptoms predispose to poorer clinical outcomes.

In suicidal hanging, a death often occurs within minutes. f rescued, most victims later succumb to the respiratory failure secondary to pulmonary edema, bronchopneumonia, delayed airway obstruction, and acute respiratory distress syndrome(ARDS). Out of these, non-cardiogenic pulmonary edema is likely due to neurogenic factors or negative intrathoracic pressure. A 36-year-old female was brought to the Department of Emergency Medicine after the suicidal hanging attempt. She was unconscious but responsive to painful stimuli. A laryngeal stridor was present. The lung sound of the patient's was dear. Fourteen hours after admission, a chest X-ray showed bilateral diffuse interstitial infiltrates in both lung fields, which was compatible with ARDS. The patient was intubated and placed on a volume respirator with PEEP. She improved over the next 48 hours and a repeat chest X-ray aim showed marked clearing of the infiltrates. We report on the pathophysiologic results of this pulmonary complication and the implication of this finding, regarding the treatment of the patient.
