The endoscopic diagnosis of gastric carcinoid has been considered difficult. Reported cases of this tumor diagnosed by endoscopic examination are rare. And the gastric carcinoid with massive upper gastrointestinal bleeding is a rare disease entity. We experienced a case of gastric carcinoid admitted to the hospital because of hematemesis, melena and syncope. And it was diagnosed by endoscopic biopsy, although it resembled type IIa+IIc early gastric cancer at endoscopic examination. To our knowledge, this is the first case report of gastric carcinoid tumor mimicking early gastric cancer. So we report this case with a review of relevant literatures.

Cholelithiasis and choledocholithiasis are uncommon pediatric diseases, although clinicians have seen them with increasing frequency in children in recent years. Moreover, no case of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection with cholelithiasis and choledocholithiasis has been previously reported in the English literature. We report a pediatric patient with EBV infection, a gall bladder stone, and a common bile duct stone, may have had GB and CBD stones prior to her EBV infection, whom we successfully treated with antibiotics and laparoscopic cholecystectomy for cholecystitis.

ESRD patients have higher cardiovascular mortality risk than the general population. Increased QT dispersion has been shown to be a risk factor for cardiac arrhythmia in chronic hemodialysis patients with diabetes or arterial disease. It is known that QT dispersion is significantly prolonged in postdialysis than in predialysis. It is associated with a decrease in serum potassium. During hemodialysis, serum potassium is decreased and QT dispersion increases. Therefore ventricular arrhythmia frequently occurs in the latter half of dialysis. We report 2 cases of ventricular arrhythmia caused by potassium removal during dialysis in chronic hemodialysis patients.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the association of p53 codon 72 polymorphism with endometriosis. METHODS: Two hundred seventy-one women with surgically or histologically diagnosed edometriosis of stage I-IV, and 219 patients with no evidence of endometriosis by laparoscopy or laparotomy served as control. Allele frequencies and genotype distribution of p53 polymorphisms (arginine homozygosity, heterozygosity, and proline homozygosity) in affected women and controls were evaluated. RESULTS: The genotype distributions of p53 codon 72 polymorphisms did not differ significantly between endometriosis group and control group (p=0.086). However, the genotype distributions of p53 codon 72 polymorphisms differ significantly between stage I-II endometriosis group and control group (p=0.043). Proline homozygotes had higher risk for stage I-II endometriosis compared to arginine homozygotes (odds ratio=2.75, p=0.013). CONCLUSION: These results suggest that proline homozygote of p53 codon 72 polymorphism is associated with the risk of minimal or mild stage of endometriosis in the Korean population.
