Fibroma*

Traumatic spondylolisthesis of the axis is the fracture of both pedicles and is called commonly as hangman' s fracture. The fractures with the anterior displacement more than 3mm and the angulation, more than 11 degrees were classified as unstable and the surgical methods were recommended for the treatment of the fractures. As for the surgical methods, anterior C2-3 fusion with plate fixation or transpedicular screw fixation were used. However, the differences between the clinical results of both methods were not reported in the literatures. In order to clarisy the clinical results of both methods, the authors evaluated the clinical results of 11 patients treated by anterior plate fixation and 7 patients treated by transpedicular fixation who were operated on between Mar. 1987 and,Jan: 1992. Minimum follow-up period was 12 months. 1. As the surgical complications, two cases of transient dysphagia in anterior fixation group and three cases of malinserted screw in transpedicular fixation group were observed. 2. Limitation of rotatory neck motion, less than 20 degrees in one direction was observed in four cases of transpedicular fixation group. 3. Anterior angulation, more than 10 degrees was noted in three cases of transpedicular group. 4. Mild intermittent neck pain was observed in two cases of anterior fixation group and two cases of transpedicular fixation group. Constant neck pain was present in three cases of transpedicular fixation group. 5. Over-all clinical results were excellent or good in all of anterior fixation group, and in four of seven transpedicular group. Although the clinical materials were limited in number, method of anterior plate fixation was recommended by the authors in the management of traumatic spondylolisthesis of axis, because of the easier technique and the better clinical results than the transpedicular screw fixation.

Thirty-five cerebello-pontine angle lesions were diagnosed with simple skull X-ray, CT, and angiography atSeoul National University Hospital from Sept. 1978 through Aug. 1982. The radiographic findings were analysed withemphasis on the differential points of CT among the major three cerebello-pontine angle tumors; acousticneurinoma, meningioma and epidermoid. The results are as follows; 1. Among the 35 cases of cerebello-pontine anglelesions, 19 cases were acoustic neurinoma. 4 cases miningioma, 4 cases epidermoid, 2 cases metastasis, 1 caseschoroid plexus papilloma, 1 case arteriovenous malformation, and 3 cases intra-axial posterior fossa tumors. 2.The characteristic radiographic findings of acoustic neurinoma were windening of internal auditory canal, petrousbone erosion, posterior extension of tumor at the level of internal autidory canal, hypo or isodense mass onpre-contrast CT with high enhancement after intravenous contrast infusion, and cystic change within the mass. 3.Meningioma shows anterior extenstion of the lesion at the level of internal auditory canal, broad base and obtuseangle sign of the lesion with petrous bone, hyperdense mass on precontrast CT. with highly homogeneous enhancementafter intravenous contrast infusion. 4. Epidermoid characteristically shows hypodense mass on precontrast CT withno change after intravenous contrast infusion. 5. The differential points of the major 3 cerebello-pontine tumorswere bone change, mass location, attenuation , degree of attachment to petrous bone, and cystic change.

The ten cases of metallic failure after I-M nailing & plate fixation who were treated at depart tment of orthopaedic surgery, Soon Chun Hyang University during nine years from June, 1974 to May, 1983 were clinically analysed. The survey as summerized as follows: l. Of the ten cases, six cases were seen the breakage of plate, two cases were the loosening of screw, one case was the brakage of nail & one case was the angulation of nail. Of the six cases of plates, two cases were DCP, three cases were ordinary plate & one case was Thornton plate. 2. Of the six cases who metallic failure occurred as plate failure, five cases were the femur fractures, one case was the tibia fracture. All case who metallic failure occurred as nail failure were ferumr fractures. Of the two cases of screw loosening, one case was the fermur fracture. One case was the tibia fracture. 3. The average interval between operation and metallic failure. 1) The plate breakage was 6.3 months. 2) The screw loosening was 7 months. 3) The nail breakage was 6 months. 4) The nail angulation was 8 months. 4. Gastric web is a rare gastric anomaly and almost all the reported cases have been located in the distal antrum. We experienced a case of neonatal gastric web that was located in the body of stomach, and we report the findings of the upper gastrointestinal series and ultrasonography.

Gastric volvulus is a rare condition, and it is classified as the organoaxial or mesentericaxial type according to the axis of rotation. We experienced 1 case of pediatric recurrent mesenteroaxial gastric volvulus and we report here the ultrasonographic and CT findings.

This study was conducted among the university students to investigate the effects of working in an daytime and studying in an evening class on dietary behaviors and nutrient intakes. A 24-hour recall method was used along with food frequency questionnaires. The subjects were composed of three groups : 172 were in the daytime calss regular student group(RS), 178 were evening class students without a job(ESWOJ), and 140 were evening class students with a job(ESWJ). An average age of the ESWJ was 31 years old, which was 9 years older than the RS and 7 years older than the ESWOJ. The types of the residence were significantly different among the groups ; were seif-boarding 74% of the ESWJ stayed at home while 47% of the RS were self-boarding and 61% of the ESWOJ. The survey shows that while a great majority of the RS and ESWOJ has breakfast and supper at home, about 10% and 17% of the ESWJ ate breakfast and supper, respectively, at the cafeteria in their work place. The most frequently skipped meal was the breakfast in all groups. Approximately 9% of the ESWJ tended to skip the breakfast, while 27% of the RS and 33% of the ESWOJ did. It turns out that the mose common reason why ESWJ skipped meals was due to a lack of time. About 71% of the ESWJ ate out more than once a week compared to 57% and 62% of the RS and ESWOJ, respectively. Approximately 30% of the ESWJ ate out more than once a week compared to 57% and 62% of the RS and ESWOJ, respectively. Approximately 30% of the ESWJ spent less than 10 minutes at meal time, showing a hurried eating habit. The results show that the ESWJ tended to eat a variety of food s and eat less instant foods, but drink coffee more often compared to the other two groups. The results also show that in all groups, the intakes of energy, Ca, and vitamin A were lower than the Korean Recommended Daily Allowances(RDA). In addition to these nutrients, protein, vitamin B1, vitamin B2, and niacin were also lower than the RDA in all make students, and Fe was lower than the RDA in all female students. Among the deficient nutrients, vitamin A showed the lowest % RDA : 48% in the male and 64% in the female students. The intakes of Ca, Fe, and niacin in the ESWJ were significantly greater than those in the RS and ESWOJ groups, and the vitamin C intake in the ESWJ was greater than that in the ESWOJ(p<0.01). In conclusion, university students in all three groups have a serious imbalance in the nutrient intakes, and the evening class students with a daytime job have unhealthy dietary behaviors in the light of high frequency of eating out and heavy coffee drinking, a rushed eating pattern, and therefore showing a strong need of proper nutritional education for them.
