The Journal of the Korean Orthopaedic Association 1969;4(2):7-13
The clinical study on recurrent dislocation of the shoulder was performed on fourteen cases who were treated by Putti-Platt operation from July 1967 to November 1968. The cases studied were treated at the 17th Army Hospital in Kwang-ju and U.S. 121st Evacuation Hospital in Bu-pyung. Ages in initial dislocation were varied from 11 to 25 with an average of 18 years. Five cases of them were recurred over ten times prior to operation. On radiological findings, Hill-Sachs lesion has been revelaed in 57.1%. On pathological finding, Bankart lesion was seen in 78.5% and detachment of the glenoid labrum with capsular separation in 28.6%. No recurrence has been encountered in this s ries, and average rarige of abduction was gained upto 165 and external rotation 30°.

Korean Circulation Journal 1992;22(2):330-334
In complication of infective endocaditis splenomegaly and splenic infarction are not uncommon but splenic rupture is very rare. We report a case of splenic rupture complicated by infective endocarditis in 1 71-yr-old man who had been suffered from rheumatic heart disease (aortic regurgitation and stenosis and mitral regurgitation). The patient was admitted to mild fever and generalized weakness for 20 days. Diagnosis of infective endocarditis due to Staphylococcus epidermidis was made by clinical manifestaions and blood culture study. On 34th day of admissionthe patient suddenly displayed the symptoms and signs of massive intraperitoneal hemorrhage. Splenic rupture was revealed by paracentesis and radiologic studies. Rupture of spleen is an uncommon and usually fatal complication of infective endocarditis. Therefore early diagnosis and prompt treatment must be performed.

The Journal of the Korean Orthopaedic Association 1987;22(3):761-769
Between May, 1984 and October, 1986, twenty patients were treated at Han-Ra Hospital of JejuCity and Chung-Ang University Hospital of Seoul with immediate internal fixation with or without bone graft of open fractures of the long bones within three days. Fractured bones were ten tibiae, six femurs, three humeri and one radius and ulna. The injuries were classified on the basis of extent of soft tissue injury as defined by Gustilo and Anderson and consisted of four TypeI injuries, five Type II injuries and eleven Type III injuries. All wounds were closed primarily and radiological follow up was qhecked every month till union occurred. The complications included two deep infections, one non-union and one amputation. This study demonstrates that immediate internal fixation with bone graft when necessary is a beneficial method of treatment of open fractures of the long bones if copious irrigation, adequate debridement and skillful internal fixation technique are given golden period after injury. The results were related to the severity of the initial soft tissue injury and surgical technique and the period of union was not related to the individual bone. Autogenous bone grafting at the time of immediate internal fixation in comminuted or segmental fractures in which interfragmental compression cannot be obtained is recommended.

9.Rectangular Rod Instrumentation in Spondylolisthesis

The Journal of the Korean Orthopaedic Association 1990;25(5):1538-1546
Since the rectangular rod had been used by Eduardo R. Luque in 1979, many authors reported good results by this technique in low back arthrodesis. The advantages of this device are that the technique is relatively easy, the cost is cheaper than the other devices, and no special instruments are needed for application of this device. On the other hand, it has the disadvantage of possible neurologic damage while passing sublaminar wires. The rectangular rod functions fundamentally as a tension band that although it is strong in flexion, it is relatively weak in lateral bending or axial loading on the spine. From June, 1984 to June, 1988, the authors experienced 41 cases of rectangular rod instrumentation with sublaminar wiring in various low back conditions. And 30 cases of spondylolisthesis which could be followed for more than one year were analyzed. And the results obtained were as follows. l. Of 30 patients of spondylolisthesis, 7 cases(23.3%) were male and 23 cases(76.7%) were female. 2. 21 cases(70.0%) were isthmic type and 9 cases(30.0%) degenerative type. 3. 23 cases(76.7%) were in Grade I, 6 cases(20.0%) in Grade II and 1 cases(3.3%) in Grade III, according to Meyerding's classification. 4. At follow up examination, 18 cases(60.0%) were in excellent group, 8 cases(26.6%) in good, 2 cases(6.7%) in fair, according to Gill's criteria. Two cases(6.7%) of pseudoarthrosis were noted and these cases were classified in unsatisfactory group. 5. Rectangular rod with sublaminar wiring was not a good device for reduction of spondylolisthesis

Journal of the Korean Radiological Society 1984;20(2):221-225
The study was undertaken to evaluate the normal microangiograhic findings of the brain and to assess the effect of varying perfusion technicque of the microangiography in the rat. All the microvascular structures including fine medullary branches of the perforating arteries and anastomotic capillary netweks are well visualizedin both 15 minutes-pefusion group and 30 minutesperfusion group. But many of the micorvascular structures are notuniformly opacified in the both groups. There is no difference in microangiographic findings between these groups. There is poor perfusion of the micorvascular structures in the 3rd group, the group with perfusion for 30 minuteswithout ligation of aorta below the needle insertion site. The new, simple perfusion technique should be developedto obtain the best quality of the microangiographic findings in the brain of the experimental animals.
