3.Immunohistochemical Study of S-100 Protein in Salivary Gland Tumors.

An immunohistochemistry for S-100 protein by biotin avidin system technique was done to evaluate the existence and distribution pattern of S-100 protein positive cells in various obtained were as follows. 1) Positive immunostaining for S-100 protein was observed in myoepithelial cell, serous acinar cell and nervous bundle in normal salivary gland. 2) Strong immunoreactivity for S-100 protein was shown in plemorphic adenoma, which was localized not only in myoepithelial cord or sheets of epithelial portion but also in chondrocytes, stellate cells of myxoid stroma and in squamous keratin pearl of mesenchymal metaplastic foci. 3) The S-100 protein was demonstrated in the tumor cells of tubular adenoma, acinic cell tumors and in epidermoid area of mucoepidermoid tumors. 4) Immunoreactivity for S-100 protein, however, was not found in the tumor cells of adenoid cystic carcinoma and adenolymphoma except for stroma reticulum cells. 5) Intensity of positive reaction for S-100 protein varied from cell to cell: Some had intense immunoreactivity, whreas others were only weakly positive or completely negative, even in myoepithelial cell nest of the same pleomorphic adenoma.

5.Herpes Zoster in the Patients with Malignant Tumor.

A study was made of the differences in clinical features and immunological aspects between herpes zoster patients with malignancies and those without malignant tumors. The results obtained from the retrospective review of medical records are as follows: Herpes zoster occurred more frequently in younger patients(less than twenty) with malignanciee as compared with the control group of the same ages,' Male was dominant among zoster patients with malignancies as is the contrary to contral group; Tihere were no marked differences in primarilly involved dermatomes between the two groups; Generalized varicelliform eruptiona were more common in zoster pa,tients with malignaneies than in control group, It seemed that zoster patients with malignancies complained of milder degree of pain. Zoeter patienta associated with malignancies were more frequently DNCB-negative and had decreased OKT3+ pan T cells, OKT4+ helper/inducer T cells as compared with control group, which suggest impaired cell mediated immunity in the former.

Clothing dermatitis is a rare disease. The distribution of the eruption coincides with the places on the skin where the garment fits most snugly. It is developed by the chemicals and the dyes rather than textile itself. We experienced 2 cases of clothing dermatitis, one of which was caused by formaldehyde in clothing.

7.The Studies of bcl-2 Oncoprotein and Epstein-Barr Virus Expression in Malignant Lymphomas: Immunohistochemical and in situ hybridization analysis on 66 cases.

Bcl-2 oncoprotein is being localized to mitochondria and interfering with programmed cell death (apoptosis) independent of promoting cell division in the lymphoid and nonlymphoid cells. The bcl-2 oncoprotein expression has been reported in follicular lymphomas as well as in diffuse non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, leukemia and a variable propotion of Hodgkin's lymphoma cases. Recent evidence suggests that some lymphomas protected from apoptosis is conferred through expression of Epstein-Barr virus(EBV) latent membrane protein which turn to cause upregulation of bcl-2. To define the role of the bcl-2 oncoprotein and EBV in lymphoid malignancy, we tried immunohistochemical studies with anti-bcl-2 antibody and In situ hybridization (ISH) with EBV-encoded small nuclear RNAs(EBER) in the paraffin embedded sections of 46 non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) cases and 20 Hodgkin's lymphoma (HL) cases. Bcl-2 oncoprotein expression was found in 37 of 46 cases (80%) of NHL with relatively strong cytoplasmic staining, and in 14 of 20 cases (70%) of HL with weak cytoplasmic staining in limited small numbers of RS, Hodgkin and lacunar cells. The widespread presence of bcl-2 oncogene in many different types of both NHL and HL supports that the extended cell survival through overexpression of bcl-2 gene protein may be a growth advantage of neoplastic lymphoid cells. In the ISH analysis for EBV, the presence of EBV was detected in 17 of 20 cases (85%) of HL, compared to 6 of 44 cases(13.6%) of NHL. It appears to be no direct correlation between overexpression of bcl-2 oncoprotein by neoplastic lymphoid cells and the presence of EBV in NHL but it seems to be a definite association between EBV and HL.

9.Correlation between Fatigue and Quality of Life Caused by Stress of Researchers' Work.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this research was to provide baseline data by utilizing solutions to health problems caused by work-related stress and to examine a way of treatment by comparing and analyzing how the stresses link to fatigue and quality of researchers' life. METHODS: A survey was conducted with 50 researchers working for in H research institute in Daejeon Metropolitan City from April 10th to May 10th, 2012 to examine the correlation of work stress, fatigue and quality of life. The data were analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis test to look into examine the difference in work stress, fatigue, and quality of life. Also, the correlation of work stress, fatigue and quality of life was measured through by the Pearson correlation coefficient. The data collected through the questionnaires was were analyzed by SPSS 21.0 based on the significant level with a p-value, 0.05. RESULTS: The results showed that fatigue was caused by work stresses in researchers and quality of life was ranked in a relatively low level. Correlation of work stresses, quality of life and fatigue and work stresses against mental health index was negative and fatigue against physical index was also negative. CONCLUSION: It is necessary to maintain more detailed provisions in order to improve mental health and stress level of researchers. Moreover, systematic, in-depth evaluation should be done to reduce researcher's work-related stress and fatigue. In addition, stress management and prevention program should be implemented for these researchers.

10.Anesthetic Management of Healthy Donor for Bone Marrow Harvesting.

BACKGROUND: Bone marrow transplantation is increasingly common as a therapeutic modality. Large volume of bone marrow has been aspirated under general anesthesia and can cause hemodynamic instability and complications. The purpose of this study is to review the cases of bone marrow harvesting in healthy donors and to find the proper anesthetic management for this procedure. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed the medical records of 479 cases of bone marrow harvesting in healthy donor performed in Catholic University of Korea, St. Mary's hospital. RESULTS: Mean harvest volume was 1097.2 120.6 ml and duration of aspiration was 53.8 22.6 minutes. Aspirated harvesting volume was mainly replaced by blood products and crystalloid solutions. 55.7% of donors received homologous blood products and 74.5% of donors received autologous blood during the perioperative period. Mean hemoglobin concentration before harvesting was 12.3 1.8 gm/dL and there was no significant changes in hemoglobin concentrations after harvesting. The incidence of hypotension and tachycardia was 22.3 and 20.5%, respectively with higher incidence in the female group (p<0.05). The incidence of febrile reaction after harvesting was 15.5%. Average duration of admission for harvesting was 3.5 0.9 days and there were no life-threatening complications. CONCLUSION: We conclude that 479 cases of bone marrow harvesting were performed safely but we should consider to reduce the volume of homologous transfusion in healthy donors.
