Xanthoma disseminatum (XD) is one of cutaneous nonhistiocytosis X, and characterized by multiple, widely distributed red, brown, yellowish papules and nodules that tend to coalesce. We present a case of XD with characteristic clinical findings and treated with the combination therapy of COz laser vaporization and high dose steroid.

Korean Journal of Dermatology 1985;23(2):177-190
A statistical survey was made on 737 cases of cutaneous benign tumors that visited the Department of Dermatology at Seoul National University Hospital during a 11-year period from 1973 to 1983. The results were summarized as follows: 1) There were 329 cases of male(44. 6%) and 408 cases of female(55. 4%). The ratio of male to female was 1: l. 24. 2) Most patients with cutaneous benign tumors belonged to age ranged from 10 to 39 with the highest incidence in the 3rd decade. 3) According to Levers classification, 737 cases of cutaneous benign tumors were divided into following 6 groups: tumors and cysts of the epidermis(252 cases, 34, 2 tumors of the epidermal appendages(125 cases, 17.0%), tumors of fibrous tissue(98 cases, 13.3%), tumors of vascular tissue(158 cases, 21.4%), turnors of farty, muscular and osseus tissue(37 cases 5.0%), tumors of neural tissue(67 cases, 9. 1 %). 4) The distribution of the frequently observed cutaneous benign tumors was as fo]lows: epidermal cyst(12. 1%), nevus flammeus(11. 4%), neurofibroma(9, l%), linear epidermal nevus(7. 9%), syringoma(6, 6%), seborrheic keratosis(7. 9%.). nevus sebaceus(6. 0%), dermatofibroma(5. 8%), steatocystoma multiplex(4. 1%,), tuberous sclerosis(2. 8% ), granuloma pyogenicurn(2. 8%).

BACKGROUND: Hand-foot-mouth disease (HFMD) is mainly caused by the infection of coxsackievirus A16. But recently several epidemics of HFMD with meningitis or myocarditis due to enterovirus 71 have been reported in Southeast Asia. It was necessary that the possibility of enterovirus 71 epidemic in Korea should be ruled out. This study was designed for the determination of causative agents of HFMD in Cheju province in the spring of 1998. METHODS: Serum specimens were collected from 45 pediatric patients with HFMD at Cheju Hankook Hospital in March and April,1998. Virus isolation was performed with RD cell culture through up to three passages. Reverse transcription-PCR and nucleotide sequencing were performed by the method of Oberste et al.(J Clin Microbiol 1999;37:1288-93). The serotypes of viral isolates were determined by BLAST program of National Center for Biotechnology Information, U.S.A. RESULTS: Virus could be isolates from 4 patients, whose age was ranged from 11 months to 3 years. All of 4 viral isolates showed about 430-bp product of RT-PCR using primers 011 and 012. The serotype showing the highest similarity with the nucleotide sequences of all of these viral isolates was coxsackievirus A16. CONCLUSIONS: The causative enteroviral agent of HFMD in Cheju province in the spring of 1998 was coxsackievirus A16. We could not detect enterovirus 71 from the patients' sera in Cheju Province in the spring of 1998.

Annals of Dermatology 2003;15(1):31-33
Juvenile xanthogranuloma is a congenital or perinatal tumor, 1 to 2 cm in diameter, usually located on the head. The extracutaneous lesions can occur on the eye, the lung, the epicardium, the oral cavity or the testicles. Subcutaneous form of juvenile xanthogranuloma has been reported very rarely in the literature. We report a unique case of a subcutaneous juvenile xanthogranuloma that showed 4 × 4 cm sized plaque and located on the extremity of 9-year-old girl.

Multiple cerebral infarction developed in a 36-year-old woman with adenocarcinoma of the right lung with direct cardiac invasion. Neurological examination and brain MRI showed findings of ordinary infarction. Transesophageal echocardiography showed left atrial pedunculated mass which was the potential source of embolism. We report a rare case who had such multiple spontaneous tumor emboli large enough to result in clinically detectable cerebral infarction.

10.Prophylactic Intravesical Chemotherapy in Superficial Bladder Tumors.
Eui Hyun CHANG ; Sung Choon LEE
Korean Journal of Urology 1985;26(5):425-432
Superficial bladder tumors are usually treated by TUR. However, recurrence of the tumor after complete resection occurs in about 50-70%, of the patients with a significant percentage of these recurrences showing a higher degree of malignancy. In 10% of the cases, the tumor progresses to invasive carcinoma. Most of these recurrent tumors will occur within 6-12 months. The multifocal nature of these tumors and the frequent recurrences after TUR indicate a need for adjuvant chemotherapy to reduce or delay the incidence of recurrence tumors. We studied to evaluate prophylactic effects of topical chemotherapy in 116 cases with superficial bladder tumors admitted to the Department of Urology, Keimyung University School of Medicine during the period from Jenuary, 1971 through July, 1985. All patients were followed up for more than 6 months. Study group consists of 83 cases (Thio-tepa: 39, Adriamycin; 44) treated with topical chemotherapy following TUR during the period from January, 1978 through July, 1985. Control group consists of 33 cases treated by TUR only during the period from January 1971 through December, 1977. Following results were obtained: 1. No. of patients with recurrence; In study group, 36Pr In control group. 67% 2. Average interval of recurrence: In study group, 38 months. In control group, 30 months 3. Recurrence rate; In study group, 2.58 In control group, 3.16 4. Complication: local side effects; In TUR + Thio-tepa, 20.5% In TUR + Adriamycin, 15.9%.
