2 Cases of primary lymphoma of brain are reported with brief review of literatures. Preoperative CT scans were performed and the correct diagnoses were made by operative biopsy. Initially the tumor masses were located in the periventricular white matter, in both cases. CT scans showed slightly high density areas with homogenous contrast enhancement. After local irradiation, these lesions disappeared completely. But soon after, well circumscribed homogenous contrast enhancing mass lesions recurred in the cerebellum.

Dyskeratosis congenita is a rare genodermatosis of ectodermal dysplasia, which is characterized by the diagnostic triad consisting of reticulated hyperpigmentation, dystrophic nails, and leukoplakia. There is a predisposition to malignancy, particularly at sites of leukoplakia. Bone marrow failure can occur in about a half of the cases. A 16-year-old boy was presented with asymptomatic reticulated pigmentation of the neck and nail dystrophy. The patient also had leukoplakia on the tongue, nasolacrimal duct obstruction and cataract. The histopathological findings taken from the reticulated lesion were consistent with poikiloderma atrophicans vasculare. These clinical and histopathological findings were typical features of dyskeratosis congenita.

Subepidermal calcified nodule, a form of idiopathic calcinosis cutis, typically present as a hard, 3 to 11 mm, solitary lesion on the exposed area of the head and the extremities. Here we re-port an unusual case of subepidermal calcified nodule occurring on the buttock. A 15-year-old girl presented with a 6-month history of a 12 × 6 mm, oval, hard, erythematous nodule on the right buttock. Histopathologic examination of an excision biopsy specimen revealed extensive deposition of calcium in the whole dermis as large multilobulated masses.

Angioma serpiginosum is a rare vascular naevoid disorder due to progressive ectatic dilatation of capillaries in the papillary dermis. We report two cases of angioma serpiginosum. A 24-year-old woman presented with asymptomatic multiple deeply red macules arranged in a serpiginous pattern on the left posterior thigh. In the other case, an 8-year-old girl had asymptomatic red nonpalpable puncta that were grouped closely together in a linear pattern from the left lower abdomen to thigh. On the histopathological examination, both cases commonly showed grouped, dilated, ectatic vessels in the upper dermis. These clinical and histopathological findings were typical of angioma serpiginosum.

This study was designed to identify the severity of anorexia and the diet patterns in receiving chemotherapy. the identification of anorexia would provide useful and basic information to oncology nursing care. The subjects of this study were 102 hospitalized chemotherapy patients in a September 10, 1994. The subjects were 20 years old or above and who agreed to participate in this study and could understand the questionnaire. Three-days diet history were collected and analysed. The study subjects change, food aversions, the severity of anorexia. Data related to demographic and other medical characteristics such as age, diagnosis, and medication were collected by review of patient medical record. The results of this study were summarized as follows : 1) The score of anorexia was 73.7 in Anorexia Visual Analogue Scales and mean amount of fool intake per a day was 823cc. The larger the anorexia VAS score, the more severe of anorexia. 2) The food preferences of subjects were identified. Those were aversions, or dislikes the meat such as beef, pork, and chicken, and greesy or fried foods. the Caffeinated drinks such as coffee and tea were disgusted, also. The patients preferred vegetables and Korean traditional food especially kimchee and soy bean soap. 3) Those who were administered analgesics and cisplatin suffered more severe in anorexia than those who analgesics and cisplatin was not administrated. The patients with gastrointestinal cancer has more severe anorexia than those who have the other site cancer ; head and neck, genirourinary etc. The result of this study in turn provide valuable nursing practice guidelines for nutritional counseling in cancer chemotherapy patient. Nurses working with chemotherapy ward should identify the severity of anorexia and diet patterns. In conclusion, the severity of anorexia in cancer chemotherapy patients is very important problems. Health care personals recognize the potential problems of anorexia and encourage the nutritional counseling in cancer chemotherapy patients.

Objective: glucometer is one of POCT(point-of-care testing) devices used by EMS. Accurate measurement value is important for patient decision making. Quality control is necessary for this, but most EMS are still using glucometer without quality control it. Therefore, management status and quality control status of glucometers used by 119 paramedics waswere investigated. Methods: 6 and 8 of glucometers and blood glucose test strips were submitted from 4 safety centers in 2010 and 8 safety centers in 2012, respectively. Glucometers submitted by local safety centers were analyzed in 2010 and 2012. The control glucometer, which was well managed at A University Hospital, was assumed to be accurate for at blood glucose measurement. Glucose values of various quality control materials control solutions were measured and analyzed using linear regression and Pearson’s correlation test. Error rates were obtained via error tolerance range required by the 2011 ISO(International Organization for Standardization) guideline. For statistics, Excel and MedCalC programs were used. Results: mong 14 safety centers in the region, 4 centers(28.5%) in 2010 and 8 centers(57.1%) in 2012 submitted 6 and 8 glucometers. In the first evaluation in 2010, 2 out of 6(33.3%) glucometers were untestable due to error, and 45 out of 6(66.683.3%) blood glucose test strips' validity were expired. In the second evaluation in 2012, 1 out of 8(13.5%) glucometers were untestable due to lack of battery, and 2 out of 8(25%) blood glucose test strips' validity were expired. All correlation coefficients were above 0.989 in 2010 and above 0.997 in 2012. Error rates were generally high when using expired blood glucose test strips. Conclusion Among 119 paramedics’ guideline, quantity and operation status of POCT devices are well managed, but quality control is not. Therefore, it is necessary to add management status and quality control status of POCT devices to the EMS’ field work guideline.

BACKGROUND: Staphylococcus aureus and Group A beta-hemolytic Streptococci are the etiologic agents most commonly associated with cellulitis, but many other bacteria have also been shown to cause this condition. The positive bacterial culture rate is the most important factor in the treatment of cellulitis. However, the positive bacterial culture rate in the commonly used media, tends to be quite low. OBJECTIVE: The principal objective of this study was to improve the positive culture rate in cellulitis patients by using a new enriched broth. METHODS: Brewer modified thioglycollate medium (BTM) and Columbia broth (CB), both of which are widely utilized in clinical bacteriology for enriched growth, were compared with several novel enriched broths. These new enriched broths were mixtures of BTM-CB broth and added growth supplement factors. They included BTM-CB (BC), Modified BTM-CB (MBC) and supplement VX-BTM-CB (VXBC). MBC media included several growth supplements, such as hemin, vitamin K1, VX supplement, and Campylobacter growth supplement. Strains utilized in this study were common pathogens (Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pyogenes, et al.), anaerobes, fastidious pathogens (Bacteroides fragilis, Campylobacter jejuni, Prevotella melaninogenica), uncommon pathogens (Actinobacter baumannii, Enterococcus faecalis, Streptococcus agalactiae). Positive culture rates were evaluated in each medium and measured via spectrophotometry at 660 nm. RESULTS: In vitro, all strains used in this study grew more quickly and densely in MBC media. CONCLUSION: Our results suggest that MBC media in a new enriched broth may improve bacterial culture rates in cellulitis patients. It will be necessary to study the efficacy of the MBC media in the culturing etiologic agents from tissues of cellulitis patients.

BACKGROUND: Allergic patients showing a simultaneously positive reaction to multiple allergens are frequently found. The purpose of this study was to analyze the pattern of simultaneously positive results to the allergens of MAST CLA Korean inhalant and food panels. METHODS: From March 2004 to March 2005, we analyzed the results of the MAST CLA allergy test performed at Bundang Jesaeng General Hospital. During this period, 1, 421 inhalant panels and 331 food panels were tested. RESULTS: Mite-farinae (40.3%) and mite-pterony (34.8%) specific IgE were the most frequently detected in the inhalant panel and also in the food panel. Simultaneously positive rates to two or more allergens were 41.9% (595/1421) in the inhalant panel and 32.3% (107/331) in the food panel. Allergens with a highly positive rate (Mite-f, Mite-p, house dust) were frequently detected simultaneously with other allergens, and allergens known to have cross-reactivity showed simultaneously positive results among themselves (i.e. among various pollen allergens; among allergens associated with the pollen-food syndrome; among grain allergens; among milk and cheese; among fungi allergens; among house dust mites and house dust; among cockroach, crab and shrimp; and among cat and dog). CONCLUSIONS: Simultaneous positivity on the MAST CLA allergy test can be found frequently among various allergens, especially allergens with cross-reactivity. More advanced techniques using recombinant allergens may be needed for further analysis of this finding.

Scar endometriosis is one of the rare conditions among the extrapelvic endometriosis, but it often occurs after pelvic operation and episiotomy. Four cases of scar endometriosis following Cesarean section and episiotomy were exp- erienced and treated with complete surgical excision. Therefore we reported these cases with concerned literatures.
