BACKGROUND: The immortalized human keratinocyte line, HaCaT cells have been widely used as substitutes for normal epidermal keratinocytes. Recently, reconstruction of a skin equivalent using HaCaT cells showed a multilayered epithelium, but somewhat different tissue architecture as compared with normal epidermis. OBJECTIVE: In this study, using HaCaT cells we tried to reconstruct an epidermis resembling more closely to normal epidermis than the previous results. MATERIALS AND METHODS: HaCaT cells were cultured in air-liquid interface on a recently developed dermal substrated in our laboratory, de-epidermized dermis (DED) raised on fibroblast-populated collagen matrix and the result was compared with those on DED or fibroblast-populated collagen matrix alone. RESULTS: HaCaT cells on the new dermal substrate formed a multilayered epithelium with rete ridges, showing rather orderly cellular organization compared with those on fibroblast-populated collagen matrix. However, horny and granular layers were not observed contrary to normal epidermis. Immunohistochemical studies revealed that differentiation markers such as keratin 1, keratin 6 and involucrin showed the similar pattern to those in HaCaT cells cultured on fibroblast-populated collagen matrix. Markers of terminal differentiation, loricrin and filaggrin were not expressed contrary to normal epidermis. CONCLUSION: These results suggest that organotypic culture HaCaT cells on the dermal substrate combines DED with fivroblast-populated collagen matrix results in incomplete differentiation of HaCaT cells contrary to normal keratinocytes.

Annals of Dermatology 1997;9(4):281-285
We described a case of diffuse biphasic cutaneous amyloidosis, a unique form of localized cutaneous amyloidosis. A 41-year-old man has gradually developed a lichenoid papular and a grouped spotted pigmented macular eruption on the trunk and upper extremities over the past 15 years. Histopathologic examination revealed that amyloid deposits were present in the papillary dermis. It was confirmed by Congo red staining, immunohistochemistry and electron microscopy. There was no evidence of systemic amyloidosis.

We reviewed clinical records and histologic materials of 96 cases of metastatic skin cancer in Seoul National University Hospital from January 1973 to July 1986. The metastatic skin cancers of male were twice as many as that of female and they occurred most frequently in male at their fifties, female, forties. The most frequent primary cancers in men were carcinoma of the stomach, lung, colorectum and pancreas; in women, carcinoma of the breast, stomach, lung and uterine cervix. Cutaneous metastases from the carcinomas of the liver, uterine cervix and stomach which were many in Korea were smaller in number than that from the carcinomas of the lung and breast. Metastatic lesions were recognized before the primary tumor relatively often in carcinoma of the lung, pancreas and rarely in carcinoma of the uterine cervix, stomach. Though localizations of cutaneous metasta.sis were widespread over all body surfaces, regional areas of primary tumor were predisposed to metastasis. Metastatic carcinoma usually produced nonspecific nodules in the skin. Less commonly, some lesions of metastasis showed inflammatory or sclerotic plaque. The histologic findinga of cutaneous metastases generally mimicked that of primary tumors; nevertheless, in most instances, it was not possible to recognize the original tumor from a histologic examination of metastatic skin cancer and it was possible to classify the metastatic carcinoma only as an adenocarcinoma, a squamous cell carcinoma or an undifferntiated carcinoma.

Korean Journal of Dermatology 1986;24(6):832-836
We herein present a case of bullous lichen planus in a 56-year-old female. She had had a generalized eruption of lichen planus with violaceus papules and plaques. many of which had been surmounted by vesicles and bullae. The histopathologic findings of a bulla revealed hyperkeratosis, irregular acanthosis, subepidermal bulla and upper dermal band-like cell infiltration. The patient had been treated with dapsone but the lesions had not been significantly improved.

Condyloma acuminatum is a common viral disease which is transmitted by sexual intercourse. We experienced a case of condyloma acuminatum occurring in a patient of systemic lupus erythematosus who has been treated with various immunosuppressive agents for 10 years. This condylorna acuminatum was unusual in that it was very rapidly growing, recurrent and reluctant to various treatrnents. We investigated the type of human papillomavirus by Southern blot hybridization and schieved partial improvement by bleomycin intralesional injection together with 5-FU topical application.

10.A Case of Delayed Tracheo-esophageal Fistula Complicating Acute Intoxication of Hydrogen Peroxide.
Hyun Young CHO ; Chan Young KOH
Journal of the Korean Society of Emergency Medicine 2017;28(2):218-222
Hydrogen peroxide is a commonly used oxidizing agent. If injected, it may result in morbidity via direct caustic injury, oxygen gas formation, and lipid peroxidation. We report a 40-year-old male patient who accidentally swallowed undiluted hydrogen peroxide (35%). The initial chest computed tomography scan showed no active lesions. He was admitted to the intensive care unit for conservative treatment. Fourteen days after treatment, uncontrolled fever and foul oder sputum occurred, which was not alleviated despite empirical antibiotics therapy. Findings on a chest computed tomography showed tracheo-esophageal fistula at the lower trachea and left main bronchus. He underwent surgical replacement surgery and was discharged without complication after 52 days of admission.
