Authors report a case of separation anxiety disorder, which developed as a side effect during haloperidol treatment of Tourette syndromes(TS). In this case, 14 years old boys developed attention deficit symptoms during his infancy. At 4th grade of primary school, he developed vocal tic, motor tic, and coprolalia. With 5mg/day of haloperidol treatment his symptoms of TS were subsided. During the treatment, he developed features of separation anxiety disorder, including dependence, pleading, clinging, and sadness. Symptoms of attention deficit and separation anxiety disorder were improved by 25mg/day of imipramine treatment. During haloperidol treatment of TS, careful observation may be needed whether separation anxiety disorder-like symptom develops.

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of Er:YAG laser on microstructure and roughness of TiO2 blasting implant surface. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Ten TiO2 blasting implant were used in this experiment. One implant was control group, and nine TiO2 blasting implant surfaces were irradiated with Er:YAG laser under 100 mJ/pulse, 140 mJ/pulse, and 180 mJ/pulse condition for 1 min, 1.5 min, and 2 min respectively. Optical interferometer and scanning electron microscopy was utilized to measure roughness and microstructure of specimens. RESULTS: The surface roughness was decreased after Er:YAG laser irradiation in all groups, but there was no significant difference. 100 mJ/pulse and 140 mJ/pulse group did not alter the TiO2 blasting implant surface in SEM study while 180 mJ/pulse group altered the TiO2 blasting implant surface. Implant surfaces showed melting, microfracture and smooth surface in 180 mJ/pulse group. CONCLUSION: Detoxification of implant surface using Er:YAG laser must be irradiated with proper energy output and irradiation time to prevent implant surface alteration.

Journal of the Korean Society of Biological Psychiatry 1999;6(1):81-88
OBJECTIVES: Significant progress has been made in understanding psychosocial, psychological, and environmental factors associated with suicide. However it is only recently that attention has been paid to the understanding of the neurobiology of suicide. The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between platelet serotonin level and suicidal behavior and psychological features of the suicidal attempters. METHODS: After a suicidal attempt platelet serotonin level was measured from 21 patients and compared it with those from depression patients and normal controls. Also MMPI, HAM-D, Barratt impulsiveness scale(BIS) were done to evaluate their psychological features. RESULTS: 1) There was no significant difference in sex ratio of the suicidal attempters. 2) There was no significant difference in platelet serotonin levels among three groups. 3) The analysis of MMPI revealed that the scores of D, Hs, Pt in clinical scales were significantly higher in suicide patients and scores of D, Pa, Si were in depression patients. 4)The HAM-D score was significantly higher in depression and suicide patients, especially in depression patients. 5) The analysis of Barratt impulsiveness scale revealed that the scores of nonplanning, motor and cognitive impulsiveness scale were significantly higher in suicide patients. CONCLUSIONS: There was no significant difference in platelet serotonin levels among three groups. However the analysis of psychological features revealed significant differences. Therefore we concluded that psychological examinations are benefit to evaluate the suicidal tendency.

The Journal of the Korean Academy of Periodontology 2008;38(2):179-190
PURPOSE: In this study, the effect of micro-macroporous biphasic calcium phosphate(MBCP) incorporated with inorganic polyphosphate for bone regeneration in the calvaria of rabbit was evaluated. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The procedure of guided bone regeneration was performed with titanium reinforced expanded polytetrafluoroethylene(TR-ePTFE) membrane. Four animal groups were compared : 1) TR-ePTFE membrane for negative control group, 2) TR-ePTFE membrane filled with MBCP for positive control group, 3) TR-ePTFE membrane filled with MBCP soaked in 4% inorganic polyphosphate for experimental group I, and 4) TR-ePTFE membrane filled with MBCP soaked in 8% inorganic polyphosphate for experimental group II. RESULTS: 1. Negative control group showed the highest new bone formation at 16 weeks. 2. Positive control group showed the smallest new bone formation compared to other groups. 3. 8% inorganic polyphosphate induced more volume of bone formation, otherwise experimental group II did not show significant difference compared to negative control group. CONCLUSION: These results suggest that inorganic polyphosphate has a promoting effect on bone regeneration, possibly by enhancing osteoconductivity of the carrier and by increasing osteoinductivity of the defected alveolar bone tissue.

The Journal of the Korean Academy of Periodontology 2004;34(2):411-424
This study was performed to evaluate bone formation in the calvaria of rabbit by the concept of guided bone regeneration with titanium mesh membrane. Two different titanium meshes with varying number (353, 565) of pore were utilized in the study. Two surgical sites(T353, T565) were evaluated about whether or not the number of pore may have effect on the bone formation. The animal was sacrificed at 10days, 3 weeks, 6weeks, and 8 weeks after the surgery. Non-decalcified specimens were processed for histologic analysis. 1. Titanium mesh was biocompatible and capable of maintaining the spacemaking. 2. At 3 weeks, 6 weeks, and 8 weeks after GBR procedure, bone formation was more in the T353 site than in the T565 site. 3. Soft tissue layer above the regenerated bone was better developed in the T565 site. 4. There was no difference between two membranes in bone maturity with time. Within the above results, titanium mesh with lesser pore in number might be recommended for the early bone formation.

This study was performed to evaluate the effect of inorganic polyphosphate on bone formation in the calvaria of rabbit in the procedure of guided bone regeneration with bovine cancellous bone graft and titanium reinforced expanded polytetrafluoroethylene(TR-ePTFE) membrane. The rabbits were divided into four groups. Control group I used only TR-ePTFE membrane, control group II used TR-ePTFE membrane and deproteinized bovine bone mineral soaked in saline, experimental group III and IV used TR-ePTFE membrane and deproteinized bovine bone mineral soaked in 1% or 2% inorganic polyphosphate respectively. After decortication in the calvaria, GBR procedure was performed on 12 rabbits with titanium reinforced ePTFE membrane filled with deproteinized bovine bone mineral soaked in saline or inorganic polyphosphate. The animals were sacrificed at 2 weeks, 4 weeks, and 8 weeks after the surgery. Decalcified and non-decalcified specimens were processed for histologic and immunohistochemistric analysis. 1. Titanium reinforced ePTFE(TR-ePTFE) membrane showed good spacemaking and cell occlusiveness capability, but it showed poor wound stabilization. 2. The deproteinized bovine bone mineral did not promote bone regeneration, but it acted as a space filler. 3. There was no complete resorption of the deproteinized bovine bone mineral within 8 weeks. 4. 1% inorganic polyphosphate did not promote bone formation, but 2% inorganic poly- phosphate promoted bone formation. Within the above results, 2% inorganic polyphosphate could be used effectively for bone regeneration.

The Journal of the Korean Academy of Periodontology 2005;35(4):921-937
Mechanical and chemical methods are the two ways to treat the implant surfaces. By using mechanical method, it is difficult to eliminate bacteria and by-products from the rough implant surface and it can also cause the structural change to the implant surface. Therefore, chemical method is widely used in order to preserve and detoxicate the implant surface more effectively. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of tetracylcline-HCl on the change of implant surface microstructure according to application time. Implants with pure titanium machined surface, SLA surface and TiO2blasted surface were used in this study. Implant surface was rubbed with sponge soaked in 50mg/ml tetracycline - HCl solution for 1/2 min., 1 min., 1 1/2 min., 2 min., and 2 1/2min. respectively in the test group and with no treatment in the control group. The sponge was soaked in every 30 seconds. Then, the specimens were processed for scanning electron microscopic observation. Based upon the analysis of photographs by three dentists who are not related with this study, the results were obtained as follows; 1. In the pure titanium machined surfaces, the control specimen showed a more or less rough machined surface composed of alternating positive and negative lines corresponding to grooves and ridges. After treatment, machining line was more pronounced for the control specimens. but in general, test specimens were similar to control. 2. In the SLA surfaces, the control specimen showed that the macro roughness was achieved by large-grit sandblasting. Subsequently, the acid-etching process created the micro roughness, which thus was superimposed on the macro roughness. Irrespective of the application time of 50mg/ml tetracycline - HCl solution, in general, test specimens were similar to control. 3. In the TiO2blasted surfaces, the control specimen showed the rough surface with small pits. The irregularity of the TiO2blasted surfaces with 50mg/ml tetracycline - HCl solution was lessened and the flattened areas got wider after 1 minute.

Porphyromonas gingivalis is a gram negative, black-pigmented anaerobe, associated with periodontitis & peri-implantitis. Fimbriae(fimA) of P. gingivalis are filamentous components on the cell surface and important in the colonization and invasion of periodontal tissue. But all P. gnigivalis strains don't have equal pathogenicity, inequality among strains originates from different fimA genotype. P. gnigivalis fimA gene encoding fimbrillin(structural subunit of fimbriae) has been classified into 5 genotypes(typesI to V) based on the nucleotide sequences. In the present study, we examined the prevalence of these fimA genotypes in patients with dental implant and the relationship between prevalence of these genotypes and a condition of peri-implant tissue. Dental plaque specimens obtained from 189 peri-implant sulci of 97 patients with dental implants were analyzed by 16S rRNA fimA gene-directed PCR assay. P. gingivalis were detected in 86.2% of the alll samples. Among the P. gingivalis-positive samples, a significant difference in the occurrence of typeII was observed between test and the two control groups. In two control groups, typeII fimA were detected in 6.3%(PD<5mm/BOP-), 18.7%(PD<5mm/BOP+). In the test group(PD> or =5mm/BOP+), typeII fimA genotype were detected most frequently in 50.0% . And a correlation between specific fimA types and peri-implantitis was found in typeII(R(2)=1.105). These results suggest that P. gingivalis strains that possess typeII fimA are gradually increased, as a condition of peri-implant tissue is getting complicated and are closely associated with peri-implant health status. We speculate that these organisms be involved in peri-implantitis

The present study was performed to evaluate the effect of tetracycline-HCL on the change of implant surface microstructure according to application time. Implant with pure titanium machined surface, HA-coated surface and TiUniteTM surface were utilized. Implant surface was rubbed with 50mg/ml tetracycline-HCL solution for 1/2min., 1min., 1 1/2min., 2min., and 2 1/2min. respectively in the test group. Then, specimens were processed for scanning electron microscopic observation. The results of this study were as follows. 1. Both test and control group showed a few shallow grooves and ridges in pure titanium machined surface implants. There were not significant differences between two groups. 2. In HA-coated surfaces, round particles were deposited irregularly. The roughness of surfaces conditioned with tetracycline-HCL was lessened and the cracks were increased relative to the application time. 3. The anodic oxidized surfaces showed the craterous structures. The surface conditioning with tetracycline-HCl didn't influence on its micro-morphology. In conclusion, the detoxification with 50mg/ml tetracycline-HCL must be applied respectively with different time according to various implant surfaces.
