Hypertrichosis is a condition of excessive hair growing in areas of the body where androgen is not predominantly dependent. It has been classified into localized and generalized based on the extent of distribution. Generalized hypertrichosis may occur as part of a syndrome or a metabolic disorder. A 55-month-old girl visited our department with accentuation of thick hairs on her mid-back and face since birth. She was diagnosed as developmental retardation at the age of 10 months. None of her family members had hypertrichosis. No abnormal findings were shown on chromosomal and laboratory studies. Therefore, we diagnosed her as generalized hypertrichosis with developmental delay.

Acta Medica Philippina 2019;53(2):186-190
This is a case of an 11-year-old male who presented with multiple neurofibromas with hypertrichosis. Classic cutaneous neurofibromas, café-au-lait macules, axillary freckling, Lisch nodules, and scoliosis were also present fulfilling a diagnosis of Neurofibromatosis type 1. This is the first report of multiple neurofibromas with hypertrichosis in the Philippines. Hypertrichosis overlying a neurofibroma is rarely reported and the mechanism remains to be elucidated.

Acromegaloid facial appearance (AFA) syndrome is a rare autosomal dominant disease, consisting of an acromegaloid face, a bulbous nose, and narrowing of the palpaebral fissure. In 1996, Irvin first reported a case of a combination of acromegaloid facial appearance syndrome and congenital hypertrichosis, and reported this case as a new disease of acromegaloid facial appearance with generalized hypertrichosis terminalis, which is differentiated from both AFA syndrome and congenital hypertrichosis/gingival hyperplasia. We report herein the first Korean case of acromegaloid facial appearance with generalized hypertrichosis terminalis.
