The aim of this study was to determine whether there are quantitative changes in the mechanoreceptors in the anterior cruciate ligament of unstable knee with injured medial articular cartilage or medial ligament. Twenty specimens of anterior cruciate ligament were obtained from medial articular cartilage injury group and medial ligament injury group, respectively. Forty anterior cruciate ligaments of the other side of knee were used as controls. The ligaments were transected and stained with a modified gold-chloride method. Mechanoreceptors were located almost exclusively in the periligamentous synovial tissue. The results were as follows; 1. Three kinds of mechanoreceptors were found at the surface of each ligament beneath the synovial membrane. 2. The type 2 mechanoreceptor was more common than any other types in all groups. 3. In the medial articular cartilage injury group, the number of mechanoreceptor was significantly decreased and morphologically degradated with synovial degeneration than the control group. The same findings were noted in the medial ligament injury group(P<0.003). 4. There was no statistical difference between the two experimental groups in numher of the mechanoreceptor. In conclusion, the mechanoreceptor of the anterior cruciate ligament of unstable knee with injured medial articular cartilage and ligament in the rabbit were decreased in its numher and were degradated morphologically than the control group. And it was suggested that reduced proprioception in unstable knee might he an another cause of development of osteoarthritis.

Background: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of dental hygiene students’ communication ability and conflict management types on adaptation to college life improve adaptation to college life and to suggest strategies to play a role as a professional dental hygienist in clinical practice. Methods: The subjects of this study were selected by random sample extraction of dental hygiene students from two colleges in Gyeonggi and one Chungcheong area. The survey was conducted online for dental hygiene students from July 20 to October 31, 2020. In order to comply with research ethics, this study was investigated with the consent of the subjects. The sample was analyzed for the final 351. Results: Dental hygiene students’ communication ability was 3.74 points, conflict management types was 3.01 points, and adaptation to college life was 3.30 points. In the type of conflict management according to the general characteristics, the problem-solving method, the avoidance method, the compromise method, and the concession method showed statistically significant differences in major satisfaction. Among the types of conflict management, the highest positive correlation (r=0.613) was shown in the relationship between the problem-solving method and the compromise method. Factors influencing the adaptation to college life were concentration, forced method, self-disclosure, conversational coherence, and social relaxation. Conclusion This study is significant in that it derives sub-areas of communication ability and conflict management types that influence adaptation to college life. In the future, there is a need to improve the quality of dental hygienists by continuously conducting research on the types of conflict management targeting dental hygienists, and responding more proactively and actively to conflict situations in the clinical field.

Metastatic calcification is rare; it is found during autopsy in patients who underwent hemodialysis. Diffuse calcium precipitation of small and medium-sized cutaneous vessels, known as calciphylaxis, can result in progressive tissue necrosis secondary to vascular calcification. This condition most commonly involves the skin; however, a rare occurrence of visceral calciphylaxis has been reported. Here we report on an autopsy case. Despite a thorough evaluation, and even performing an autopsy, the underlying cause of acute-onset hypercalcemia, resulting in the production of pulmonary calciphylaxis and metastatic renal calcification associated with acute respiratory and renal failure, could not be determined. Metastatic calcification often lacks specific symptoms, and the degree of calcification is a marker of the severity and chronicity of the disease. This unusual autopsy case emphasizes the importance of rapidly progressing visceral calciphylaxis, as well as its early detection.

A ureteral hernia that occurs through the sciatic foramen is very rare. We present a case of a ureteral sciatic hernia with hydronephrosis. Intravenous urography (IVU) showed the presence of a curved, laterally displaced ureter, and computed tomography (CT) clearly depicted the herniated ureter through the sciatic foramen. The patient was treated transiently with a double J catheter.

Huntington's disease is an autosomal dominantly inherited neurodegenerative disease, which is characterized by choreic movement and progressive dementia. A definite diagnosis of Huntington's disease cannot be made by clinical informations alone. Pathologic or genetic studies are necessary to exclude other neurodegenerative diseases which may present with familial dementia, dystonia, and chorea. We report a 40 year-old male patient with Huntington's disease confirmed by pathologic and genetic studies. His daughter who had rigidity, dystonia, involuntary movement, and progressive cognitive decline had abnormal CAG trinucleotide repeat on the short arm of chromosome 4. These findings confirmed that the korean patient with Huntington's disease has same genetic abnormalities with the western and other oriental patients with Huntington's disease.

PURPOSE: Erectile dysfunction(ED) impacts the quality of a man's life, both from a social and humanistic perspective. This study was performed to determine the themes, coping behaviors, and influencing factors related to men's health, with a special focus on ED, in Korean males. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Subjects for this study included 32 ED men and 32 non-ED men. A total of 8 focus group discussions were conducted for each group, separately. Inclusion into the ED group was confirmed by IIEF-5 scoring and a clinician's medical examination. Focus group discussions were audio-recorded, and the authors conducted a qualitative analysis. RESULTS: Data were categorized into the following themes: men's general health and co-morbidities, knowledge and perceptions of ED and its treatment, and health seeking bahaviors and experiences with treatment. The meaning and implications of the identified themes were considered, acknowledging both the Korean social context and the Korean health care system. ED was not only a problem of sexual function, but was also related to general men's health in both the ED and non-ED groups. The majority of men in both groups felt that sex is the most important part of their life. ED has a significant impact on the sufferer. The men with ED showed more positive thoughts about the use of sildenafil than those without ED. CONCLUSIONS: Erectile function is a very important factor in men's health and the quality of life in Korean men.

PURPOSE: This study was performed retrospectively and to compare the clinical outcomes of the surgical management using Antiglide plating and lateral plating for Danis-Weber type B isolated lateral malleolar fractures. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Between March 2004 and March 2009, 92 patients were followed up for more than 6 months after surgical treatment. 49 patients were treated with Antiglide plating, whereas the remaining 43 patients underwent lateral plating. The results of the two groups were analyzed both radiographically and clinically using Ankle scoring system. RESULTS: Both groups were comparable for age, sex distribution, time to surgery, and operation time. Bone union was noted at average of 8 weeks in all fractures. The mean ankle score was similar in both groups (94% versus 93%). CONCLUSION: Antiglide plating for Danis-Weber type B isolated lateral malleolar fracture is one of the good methods which has some advantages such as early ankle motion, ambulation and smaller operative incision.

The isolated hypoglossal nerve palsy is less frequently seen, but occasionally it appears as the initial or solitary sign of an intracranial or extracranial space-occupying lesion or a vascular abnormality of the internal carotid artery. We present a 55-year-old woman with isolated hypoglossal nerve palsy due to an oropharyngeal carotid space mass.
