The purpose of this study was to investigate the growth changes of the mandible and associated structure in response to postural hyperpropulsion and changes after removal of postural hyperpropulsor. The experimental animals were four-week-old Sprague-Dawley males rats. The animals were worn the postural hyperpropulsor diurnally for 10 hours per day. The animals were sacrified after 1-week, 2-week, 4-week postural hyperpropulsion and 4-week postural hyperpropulsion 4-week removal period. The growth changes of rat mandible and associated structures following postural hyperpropulsion on the growing rat mandible were observed biometrically, radiographically and histologically. The finding were as follows. 1. The angle between the chief axis of the bone trabeculae in the condyle and the mandibular plane of rats observed for 4 weeks after worn the hyperpropulsor for 4 weeks was directed posteriorly as compared with that of control rats. 2. The ratio of mandibular length to maxillary length of experimental rats was higher than that of control rats. 3. The tooth axis of mandibular first molar of rats worn the postural hyperpropulsor for 4 weeks was mesially inclined as compared with control rats. 4. Histologically, the cartilage layer at the superior region of the condyle of rats worn the postural hyperpropulsor for 2 weeks appeared thicker than that of same aged normal rats, and generalized increase of the cartilage layer was shown on the condyle of rats worn the postural hyperpropulsor for 4 weeks. 5. There was no significant histologic difference between rats observed for 4 weeks after worn the postural hyperpropulsor for 4 weeks (8 week experimental rats) and same aged normal rats. 6. The newly formed bone at anterior region of articular fossa of rats worn the postural hyperpropulsor for 2 weeks and 4 weeks was thicker than that of same aged normal rats.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to analyze the pattern of dental caries in 12-year-old Korean adolescents through multivariate analysis. Methods: This study used raw data from the 2015 Korea Children’s Oral Health Survey. The study participants were 12-year-old adolescents. A total of 27,291 people participated in the questionnaire and oral test. The statistical analysis methods used were multidimensional scaling, cluster analysis, and factor analysis. Results: The result was derived after analyzing the dental caries pattern of teeth and tooth surface by multi-dimensional scaling method, cluster analysis method, and factor analysis. Morphologically homologous teeth were gathered to form clusters. Caries occurrence showed a more similar caries experience pattern when the types of tooth surfaces, such as occlusal and occlusal surfaces, were the same than when they were different. Conclusions Epidemiological data on the pattern of dental caries in 12-year-old adolescents can be used as basic data to create evidence-based dental caries management plans.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to examine the association between oral health-related quality of life and adult attachment type among college students. Methods: A total of 557 self-administered questionnaires were collected from undergraduates in Jeonbuk. Data were analyzed using SPSS 22.0. The results were analyzed using t-tests, analyses of variance, Duncan’s multiple range tests, correlation analyses, and multiple regression analyses. Results: The results of this study showed that sex and age were significant factors according to the analysis of the oral health-related quality of life in terms of general characteristics. The variable that had the greatest effect on the oral health-related quality of life was attachment anxiety, followed by age, sex, and attachment avoidance. Conclusions Education and counseling to promote safety of adult attachment will improve the oral health-related quality of life for college students.

OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study is to examine the periodontal health status of Korean adolescents and its relationship with oral health behaviors, as well as to use certain basic sources for improving the periodontal health of adolescents. METHODS: Data were obtained from the original data of the Korea National Oral Health Survey in 2010. The subjects included 12,351 adolescents aged 12 and 15 years. The questionnaire administered to each adolescent included 17 items on demographic variables, such as gender, regions, and oral health behaviors, and subjective perceptions, tooth brushing per period, and intake of cariogenic food. RESULTS: Examination of the periodontal status revealed that 43.1% of the adolescents had healthy periodontal tissue, 20.0% had gingival bleeding, and 36.9% had calculus formation. The adolescents who brushed their teeth before sleeping had significantly better periodontal health, and those who had never smoked had good periodontal health. In addition, those with a higher number of annual visits to the dentist had better periodontal health. Region, age, brushing teeth after breakfast and before sleep, flossing, subjective oral health perceptions, and annual visits to the dentists were significantly associated with the periodontal health status of adolescents. CONCLUSIONS: Oral health education must be included while planning oral health services for the improvement of periodontal health in order to change oral health behaviors among the adolescents.

OBJECTIVES: The present study aimed to examine the perceptions and behaviors of dentists regarding the National Dental Health Insurance, and their opinions for improving its policies. METHODS: A self-report survey was conducted with 1,321 dentists selected from the Alumni Association of the W University College of Dentistry. We finally recovered and analyzed 243 questionnaires, excluding those returned with insincere answers. RESULTS: Only 40.3% of the practitioners recorded the disease name, 12.8% of medical records were unrecorded, and 54.5% of the respondents did not receive the expenses borne by the principal. In addition, 14.0% of the practitioners had administrative dispositions or had been penalized with surcharge, and 74.6% of the respondents stated that dental care benefits should be expanded. Further, 92.2% of the respondents agreed that a course on dental health insurance should be offered at the university. Additionally, 80.6% of the participants stated that they were willing to participate in supplementary training programs that emphasize on dental health insurance. If supplementary training programs were to take place, 46.0% of the participants reported that they preferred courses that focused on dental health insurance in general, and 22.2% reported that they should focus on the decrease in health insurance. Finally, participants reported that insurance claims for each department had reduced for periodontal treatment (70.7%), other treatments (15.7%), and endodontic treatment (9.6%). CONCLUSIONS: It is necessary for dental practitioners to be educated on the National Health Insurance, in general, as well as on insurance claims.

PURPOSE: Headache is a common neurologic symptom in children but chronic headache in them must be diagnosed in different ways. The aim of this study is to determine the algorithm of diagnostic approach for children with chronic headache and know the clinical significance of dizziness in evaluating those children. METHODS: We recruited children with headache at Myongji Hospital from January 2004 to July 2006. The study was based on a retrospective review of their medical records and interviews with the children and their parents. We divided them into two groups : Group A headache with dizziness, Group B headache without dizziness. RESULTS: The medical records of 86 children and adolescents with headache were reviewed. Age for group A ranged from 10 to 15 years(73.7%) and gender ratio was 1:1.7. Age for group B ranged mostly under 7 years(56.3%) and gender ratio was 1:0.85. Headache in group A frequently occurred predominantly in the morning(37.3%). The duration of the attack was over 90 min(87.5%) in group A and over 90 min(50.0%) in group B. Associated symptoms were mainly nausea(34.2%), vomiting(18.4%), blurred vision(12.7%) in group A. Over 90% of them had headache 4 times a week and so did dizziness. The final diagnoses in cases of group A were migraine(31.6%), orthostatic hypotension(15.8%), postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome(13.2%), and benign paroxysmal positional vertigo(10.5%). While in group B diagnoses included sinusitis(50.0%), migraine(31.3%), and complications of migraine(8.3%). CONCLUSION: This study revealed high percentage of headache concurred with dizziness in children. The association of headache with dizziness is complex and maybe coincidental. If chronic headache with dizziness in girls occurs mainly in the morning, it maybe related to vestibular disorder and orthostatic instability. In conclusion, dizziness and other associated symptoms or clinical features should carefully be assessed in the diagnosis of headache.

This study is undertaken to investigate the clinical effecte of Neutrogin(recornbinant human granulocyte-colony stimulatiing factor) in 25 patients with ovarian caneer who received two courses of CAP chemotherapy. In the first courae of chemotherapy as a contml course, all patients were treated with CAP chemotherapy alone and during the second course, Neutrogin was given at a dose of 2ug/kg/day subcutaneouely for 14 days 24 hours after completion of chemotherapy. Neutrogin significantly increaaed the nadir count of leukocyte and abaolute neutrophil and decreased tbe number of days per patient on which the absolute neutrophil count was 1,000/mm3 or less. The mean recovery time required for neutrophil to greater than l,500/mm3 after nadir were significantliy decreased in the seeond comse as compared with the first course. Each one patient exriened mild side effects of Neatrogin, such as fever, tene pain and malaise and rernovered without tretment. These results showed that Neutrogin is extremely effective and useful to treat chemotherapy indueed leukopenia and to accelerate the recovery from these complications.

PURPOSE: Asthma has been known as a chronic inflammatory disease to cause airway obstruction by allergens, viral infections and other factors. Nowdays infantile asthma is increasing markedly. However, to date the enough study for predicting its long term prognosis was not performed. This study aimed to estimate the long term prognosis of infantile asthma. METHODS: In pediatric allergy clinic of Hanyang University Hospital, 84 asmatics younger than 24 months of age were included from January 1986 to December 1992, who had no abnormality in the airway. Infantile asthma was diagnosed on the basis of chronic cough, episodic wheezing more than three times and reversibility of clinical symptoms by using inhaled bronchodilators. Forty four asthmatics could have been followed and divided into two groups, symptomatic and resolved by analyzinng their medical records and performing follow- up examination with blood and skin prick tests to common allergens. RESULTS: 1) The two study groups included resolved 28 children (63.6%) and symptomatic 16 children (36.4%) with the ratio of male 3.9 to female 1. 2) There were no significant differences the age of first wheezing episode (9.6+/-5.6 mo. vs. 9.9+/-3.5 mo.) as well as diagnosis (14.3+/-5.7 mo. vs. 16.2+/-5.1 mo.) between two study groups, respectively (P>0.05). 3) For history of atopic dermatitis, there was significant difference between the resolved group 6 of 28 children and the symptomatic group 12 of 16 (P<0.05). 4) For laboratory examination, no significant difference was observed, between the levels of PB eosinophil count (310.4+/-282.2/mm3 vs. 368.1+/-465.9/mm3 at diagnosis; 294.3+/-205.3/mm3 vs. 457.7+/-511.2/mm3 at follow-up) and serum IgE (107.2+/-126.5 IU/ml vs. 157.6+/-246.3IU/ml at diagnosis; 267.3+/-700.5IU/ml vs. 442.6+/-546.0IU/ml at follow-up). 5) The frequency of asthmatic attack per year was 3.3+/-1.6 vs. 3.7+/-1.7; the duration of clinical symptom was 2.6+/-1.4 vs. 5.7+/-2.0 years, respectively. 6) The results of skin prick test showed that more frequent positivity to common inhalants in symptomatic group than in resolved was observed. CONCLUSIONS: In the long term follow-up for infantile asthma, the resolved 28 of 44 asthmatics were observed. The positive history of atopic dermatitis might be one of the important predictors for their persistent clinical symptoms.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the potency of panoramic radiography for the detection of maxillary impacted canines. METHODS: Twenty-five patients were selected, comprised of 7 males (mean age: 10.9 years, range: 8.5 - 14.5 years) and 18 females (mean age: 10.9 years, range: 8.2 - 15.7 years). In total, thirty-five maxillary impacted canines were estimated. The position of the canine and root resorption of adjacent teeth were evaluated on panoramic radiography and 3D CT. RESULTS: Except for angulation to the occlusal plane, the other parameters, such as tooth length, crown width, vertical distance and lateral shift showed larger values on panoramic radiography compared to 3D CT. In palatally impacted cases, the angulation of canine was smaller, and the vertical distance to the occlusal place was larger on panoramic radiography than 3D CT. For labially impacted canines, tooth length, crown width, and angulation to the occlusal plane were similar for the two methods. The sensitivity for detecting root resorption on panoramic radiography was calculated as being 33.3% of 3D CT. CONCLUSIONS: The position of labially impacted canines can be effectively estimated using panoramic radiography, but palatally impacted canines need further investigation such as 3D CT for proper diagnosis.
