PURPOSE: This research compares self-leadership, team efficacy, problem solving processes and task satisfaction in response to teaching methods applied to nursing students, and determines whether variations exist. METHODS: This research experiments before and after the training of a nonequivalent group. The subjects were 36 learners of action learning methods and 39 learners of nursing course methods, and the research took place from October through December 2012. RESULTS: Prior to the training, the general features and measurable variables of the two groups of subjects were similar, and self-leadership, team efficacy, problem solving process and task satisfaction in both groups were elevated compared to pre-training. In particular, in comparison with the nursing course, there was a notable difference in scores, the action learning method receiving high scores in the problem solving process (t=2.92, p=.005) and task satisfaction (t=2.54, p=.013) CONCLUSION: It is recommended that educators not only conduct the practice training course for teaching methods, but also incorporate action learning.

Purpose: : This study aimed to examine the effects of the awareness of patient safety culture, emotional labor, and job stress on patient safety nursing activities by comprehensive nursing care medical service ward nurses. Methods: : The participants were 112 nurses from the comprehensive nursing care service wards from six hospitals. Data were collected using structured questionnaires and analyzed using a t-test, ANOVA, Scheffé test, Pearson correlation coefficients, and multiple regression analysis using SPSS version 20.0. Results: : The factors that significantly influenced patient safety nursing activities in the comprehensive nursing care medical service ward nurses included job stress (β=-0.18, p<.032) and awareness of patient safety culture (β=0.54, p<.001). The explanatory power of these factors was 31.0% (F=13.43, p<.001). Conclusion : This study showed that the factors that influenced patient safety management activities of comprehensive nursing care medical service ward nurses included job stress and awareness of patient safety culture.

PURPOSE: This study was to analyze the effect size of complementary and alternative intervention studies in reference to dysmenorrhea and menstrual distress. METHODS: In order to conduct a meta-analysis, a total of 393 studies were retrieved from the database. Twenty-eight studies that were published from March 2001 to February 2011 were selected. RESULTS: Intervention studies included seven studies on aromatherapy, five on auriculotherapy, three on each Koryo-Sooji-Chim and moxibustion, two on each heat therapy and magnetic therapy and six on other therapy. The effect size of the intervention studies on dysmenorrhea and menstrual distress was greater than 0.48 for Koryo-Sooji-Chim, moxibustion, aromatherapy, auriculotherapy and other therapy. CONCLUSION: This study suggests that drug free therapy can reduce the levels of menstrual distress, despite the small number of intervention studies and randomized controlled trials.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to identify the degree of internet addiction and factors affecting internet addiction in elementary school students. METHOD: The participants in this study were 1,328 students in 4, 5 or 6 grades of elementary school. They were recruited from two elementary schools. Data collection was conducted using of 6 questionnaires that were modified by the investigator. The data were analyzed with the SPSS win 10.0 program using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation coefficients and stepwise multiple regression. RESULTS: 1) The mean of total item score for internet addiction was 2.1, which was slightly low. Of respondents in this research 48.4% normally use the internet, while 48.5% addictively use the internet and as high as 3.1% were serious internet-addicted. 2) There was a significant correlation between internet addiction, self-esteem, aggression, impulsivity, parent's support and friend's support(gamma= -.15 ~ .44). 3) Stepwise multiple regression analysis showed that amount of time spent on the internet per day, impulsivity, aggression, gender, self-esteem, duration to use of internet, father's age, and the major place where the internet was used were the predictors of internet addiction and accounted for 47% of the variance in internet addiction. CONCLUSION: Time spend on the internet per day, impulsivity, aggression, gender, self-esteem, duration to use of internet, father's age, the major place where the internet was used accounted for internet addiction in elementary school students. Therefore it is necessary to develop nursing interventions and to further identify the depth of the relationship of the related factors in order to decrease internet addiction.

PURPOSE: This study was conducted to develop a postpartum care program and to evaluate the effects of the program on postpartum activity and postpartum discomfort in primiparous women. METHODS: For this control group quasi-experimental study, primiparous women who had a normal delivery at OBGYN clinics in G-city and then went home with assistance from their mothers participated from April 10 to August 2, 2006. The participants were assigned to an intervention group of 25 mothers or a control group of 23 mothers. Data analysis was performed by using SPSS/win10.0 PC+. X(2)-test and t-test, and repeated measure ANOVA. RESULTS: The results showed that the degree of postpartum activity(F=4.66, p=.036) and the degree of postpartum discomfort(F=7.98, p=.007) were supported statistically with significant differences between the two groups. CONCLUSIONS: Therefore, this program needs to be applied as a new nursing intervention because this postpartum care program was proven useful as effective postpartum care.

A total of 100 Vibrio spp. strains were examined for production of various extracellular enzyme and for plasmid content plasmid were subjected to digestion with restriction enzymes. Most of them produced extracellular enzyme more than one, especially V. parahaemolyticus and V. cholerae non-01 strains were showed production of various extracellular enzymes. About the 55% Vibrio spp. have the plasmid more than one, but a lot of Vibrio spp. (about 45%) did not possess any plasmid. Most of these plasmid various derivatives ranged from 2.4 kb-23 kb, especially two strains of V. mimicus and one strain of V. furnissii carried one high-molecular weight plasmid (molecular weight ranging between 70 kb-100 kb). Results of restriction analysis for plasmid of this three strains were by no means the rule. For detection of tdh and ctx gene, the virulence factor involved in the pathogenesis, we carried out the TDH, CT assay, PCR amplification, and hybridization. A total 11 strains were produced TDH, involved in 4 strains of V. parahaemolyticus and 1 strain of V. cholerae non-01 from clinical isolates and 6 strains of environmental isolates. Nine strains of 11 strains, involved in 4 strains of V. parahaemolyticus and 1 strain of V. cholerae non-01 from clinical isolates and 4 strains of V. parahaemolyticus from environmental isolates, could be successfully amplified in 400 bp by PCR, no amplification products were obtained from TDH-negative strains. The PCR results were consistent with DNA hybridization. In the experiments of ctx gene detection, in all, 3 strains of V. cholerae non-01 from clinical isolate and 1 strains of V. cholerae non-01 from environmental isolate were observed CT- positive. These CT-producing strains amplified in 302 bp by PCR for the detection of ctx gene. All CT-producing strains hybridized with digoxigenin-labeled DNA probe, while CT-negative strains did not hybridize. Also hybridization tests results for detection of ctx gene consistent with PCR.

For determining the distribution of specific IgE and IgG-subclass antibodies and their role in allergic disorders, we measured the serum levels of specific IgG-subclass and IgE antibodies to Dermatophagoides farinae (Df) on 60 atopic children, aged between 8 to 12. All of them had positive skin test to Df, and was grouped into three: children with asthma only (group 1), with rhinitis (group 2), and with them together (group 3). Every data were compared with that of 47 nomal children. ELISA (for IgG and IgG-subclass) and RIA (for IgE) were used. The results are as following. 1) Specific IgE-antibody is significantly higher in all three allergic groups, compared with normal control group. But there was no significant difference between three allergy groups. 2) Specific IgG, IgG1, IgG2 IgG4-antibodies were higher than those in normal control group, but IgG3 was not significant. IgG1 and IgG2 were elevated particularly in patients with asthma and rhintis, but IgG4 was elevated in asthma group. 3) The linear correlation between specific IgE and IgG1-antibody was significant (r=0.286), but IgG4 did not have this correlation with IgE. In conclusion, the levels of specific IgE is essential for the diagnosis of allergies, and IgG1 and IgG4 seem to participate in allergic reactions with a different mechanism.

Direct laryngoscopy and endotracheal intubation is accompanied by mechanical stimulation of the laryngopharynx & by sympathetic timulation, as reflected by an increase in heart rate and blood pressure. The purpose of this study is to evaluate effects of certain drugs on blood pressure and heart rate during intubation. We intravenously administered some drugs prior to laryngoscopy and endotracheal intubation in adult patients with ASA class 1-2. Seventy-two patients were devided into four groups as follows: Group 1: Control group (none, n=18). Group 2: Lidocaine only (n=18). Group 3: Lidocaine (1 mg/kg) and d-Tubocurarine (3mg)(n=18). Group 4: Lidocaine (1mg/kg), d-Tubocurarine (3mg) and diazepam (0.1mg/kg)(n=18). Blood pressure, heart rate, mean arterial pressure, rate-pressure product, aterial blood gas were measured before induction, after induction, immediately after intubation and at 1, 2, 3 & 5 minutes after intubation. The results were as follows: 1) There were no significant differences in preinduction values of blood pressure, heart rate, rate-pressure product, arterial blood gas. 2) Systolic blood pressure increased significantly 2 minutes after the intubation in all groups and rapidly returned to the preinduction level in group 4, group 3 and then group 2 in that order compared to group l. 3) Diastolic and mean arterial pressure elevated significantly during intubation and rapidly retur- ned to the preinduction level in group 4, group 3 and then group 2 in that order compared to group l. 4) Heart rate increased significantly after the intubation in all groups and more rapidly returned to the preinduction levels 3 minutes after the intubation in group 4. 5) Rate-pressure product following the intubation was over 15,000 mmHg. beat/min in all groups, and more rapidly decreased 15,000 mmHg. beat/min at 2 minutes after the intubtion in group 4, 5 minutes after the intubation in group 3. 6) pH, PaCO2and PaO2values were within normal range following the intubation in all groups. In conclusion, it is suggested that the administration of lidocaine, d-tubocurarine and diazepam prior to the intubation is ideal for those patients with cardiovascular disease & increased intracranial pressure.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of sex education using multimedia program on knowledge and attitude about sex. METHOD: The subjects of this study were 282 middle school boys in seoul. The data were collected from the 4th of Jun. to 30th of Jun. 2001. This program consisted of 6 subtopics and provided 3 sessions for each class. The per-test was given before the therapy to measure variables and the post-test was performed after intervention. The data were analyzed by the SAS program using t-test. RESULT: The results of this study are as follows. After intervention, the level of knowledge and attitude were increased significantly. CONCLUSION: The sex education using multimedia program is effective in helping middle school boys improve their healthy attitudes and thoughts toward sex.
