2.Fatigue Associated with Kidney Disease Symptoms in Female Patients Undergoing Hemodialysis.
Journal of Korean Academy of Fundamental Nursing 2007;14(4):474-482
PURPOSE: This study was done to provide fundamental data for nursing interventions to prevent and reduce fatigue and to identify fatigue and kidney disease symptoms in female patients on hemodialysis and evaluate factors associated with this fatigue. METHOD: A cross-sectional study design was used with self-administered questionnaires which included general characteristics and the fatigue scale developed by Brown, Dittner, Findly, & Wessely (2005) (Cronbach's alpha=0.98 and for present study alpha=0.96) and a review of laboratory data. From eight dialysis units, 84 women were enrolled. Data were analyzed using the SAS program. RESULTS: Mean score for fatigue was 49.4 (range 16~78) and fatigue by research variables was significantly different by age (0.046), employment status (0.041), menopause (0.009), hypoalbuminemia (0.022), length of time on dialysis (0.48) and kidney disease symptoms (0.000). Correlations between fatigue and lack of strength, dizziness, and cramps after dialysis were significantly higher. Factors affecting fatigue were kidney disease symptoms and length of time on dialysis, explaining 49.2% of fatigue. CONCLUSION: A comprehensive approach considering kidney disease symptoms, length of time on hemodialysis, age, menopause, and hypoalbuminemia are required for interventions to reduce fatigue in female patients on hemodialysis.

Journal of Korean Academy of Nursing 2003;33(1):60-70
PURPOSE: The study is designed to develop an educational CD-Program for prevention and control of obesity among primary school students. METHOD: The study is conducted from June 15, 2000 to April 15, 2002. Based on the course of program development suggested by Dick and Cray (1990), the study followed the planning, development, education and evaluation of a program. RESULT: The developed CD-Program consists 2 parts each for lower and higher grades of primary school students. The introduction part of the first trial for lower grade students uses quiz to encourage their motivations, the body proceeds with motion pictures and animations to trigger their interests. The introduction part of the second trial for the lower grades consists of remembering the exhibition lecture. The first trial for higher grades of primary school students builds on the contents of the low grades. Its body part, how to determine obesity and calculate ones own obesity, puts ones own weight and height in by the mouse. For the second trial of the higher grades, the body consists of life-style, diet, and regiments. CONCLUSION: The merits of this CD-Program are that to be possible an interaction between teachers and students.

Journal of Korean Neurosurgical Society 1997;26(2):223-234
Fourty three patients with tuberculous spondylitis were surgically treated through the anterior approach at our hospital from January, 1989 to December, 1994. Among them, 32 cases were followed up more than 18 months postoperatively, and were included in this study. The most prevalent location was lumbar region(50%). Paraparesis was frequently seen in patients with middle and lower thoracic spinal lesions and all patients with neurologic deficits improved after decompression of spinal cord. Autogenous rib and/or iliac strut bone grafting was performed, followed by spinal instrumentation. Solid bone fusion was obtained in all patients. There was no need for prolongation of duration of antituberculous drug therapy and no increased incidence of secondary infection due to spinal instrumentation.

Isolated hydroceohalus is an uncommon entity wihch results from obstruction of the level of the foramen of Monnro. We have recently expierience three cases of isolated loculations of the lateral ventricle cause by intraventricular hemorrhage and ventriculitis. All patients were treated sucessfully using one or multiple shunts.

Journal of Korean Society of Endocrinology 1995;10(1):52-57
Hyperthyroidism is a well known cause of atrial fibrillation. It is also known that control of hyperthyroidism can usually curb thyrotoxic atrial fibrillation and restore sinus rhythm. In this study, 282 patients with hyperthyroidism were investigated to quantify the incidence of atrial fibrillation, and to identify the vulnerable groups. In addition, we compared two groups of subjects with atrial fibrillation-one group with hyperthyroidism and the other group without

Journal of the Korean Ophthalmological Society 2000;41(11):2391-2400
The number of low vision patients and the demand for low vision rehabilitation are increasing as the life expectancy and visual impairment due to largely untreatable ocular conditions are.It is therefore, imperative to recognize the importance of low vision aids, which have recently been developed actively. To evaluate the efficacy of low vision aids for low vision rehabilitation, we reviewed the clinical records of 350 patients who had visited our low vision clinic more than twice and had been prescribed with low vision aids. According to the data analysed, optic nerve atrophy, macular degeneration and retinitis pigmentosa were the leading causes of visual impairment in those patients. The purposes to visit our low vision clinic were to read books, read letters on the black board, identify a person at a distance, etc.Hand-held magnifiers, aspheric doublet lens and telemicroscope with plus cap were commonly used for near vision, while Keplerian and Galilean telescope were popular aids for distant vision.Visual acuity after prescription was improved when it was compared with that before prescription.Majority of the patients benefited from attending low vision clinic. These results suggest that the optical low vision aids were required to rehabilitate the visually impaired patients.
