It is thought to be reliable roentgenologic sign of pulmonary plethora that the diameter of anterior segmental artery(d-ASA) is larger than that of anterior segmental bronchus(d-ASB). To evaluate the reliability of this sign, we compared d-ASA with d-ASB on chest rentgenograms of 100 normal adults. Of the total 105 cases. d-ASA was larger than d-ASB in 40 cases (38.1%), smaller than d-ASB in 34 cases(32.4%) and equal to (d-ASA and) d-ASB in 31 cases(29.5%). The ratio(ABR) and difference between d-ASA and d-ASB ranged from 0.70 to 1.58(mean, 1.05±0.30) and from -1.85mm to +2.45mm(mean of absolute value, 0.75mm±0.57). These results showed that the relationships between d-ASA and d-ASB were variable. Conclusively, d-ASA may be larger than d-ASB in even normal adults and mild degree of pulmonary plethora cannot exectly evaluated with this findings only.

Allergy, Asthma & Respiratory Disease 2015;3(2):134-138
PURPOSE: Genetic modification technique is widely used in plants for improving crop yields and qualities, and reducing pesticide use. Zoysia japonica is one of the widely planted grasses for lawning. Pollenless herbicide-tolerant genetically modified (GM) grasses (JG21-MS1 and JG21-MS2) were developed under surveillance for possible biohazard. Grasses may cause allergic contact dermatitis with direct contact on human skin. Patch testing with allergens was adopted to compare the incidences of allergic contact dermatitis to GM grass leaves with those of wild-type grass. METHODS: Patch testing with controls and leaves of wild-type and GM grasses was performed in individuals with informed consent. RESULTS: Ninety-seven individuals (mean age, 32+/-8 years; 48% males) were enrolled. For nickel sulfate as a positive control, 38 subjects (39.2%) were positive. For GM grasses, 10 (10.3%) showed positive patch test results and 11 (11.3%), for wild-type grass, the proportions of which were similar among the tested grasses. CONCLUSION: JG21-MS1 and JG21-MS2 are not more biohazardous than wild-type grass in the risk of allergic contact dermatitis.

Journal of the Korean Radiological Society 1992;28(6):875-880
The chest radiographs and angiograms were retrospectively evaluated in 47 patients with pulmonary atresia (PA) and ventricular septal defect (VSD) to determine the characteristic findings of major aortopulmonary collateral arteries (MAPCSs) on the chest radiographs. Of 47 patients, 23 had MAPCAs and 24 had only PDA for blood supply of whole right and left lung. Chest radiographs enabled identification of 16 of 23 patients with MAPCAs. The most common finding of MAPCAs was inappropriately large peripheral pulmonary vasculature (n=16, 69.6%). The other findings were tortuosity of pulmonary vasculature (n=12, 52.2%), focal unevendistribution of pulmonary vasculature (n=12, 52.2%), and two descending pulmonary arteries (n=4, 17.4%). When chest radiographs showed two or more findings of MAPCAs, MAPCAs could be differentiated from PDA with statistical significance (p<0.005). It is concluded that chest radiographs may help to identify MAPCAs before angiography if two-dimensional echo ardiography suggests PA with VSD.

Korean Journal of Pathology 1995;29(6):815-818
The Sertoli-Leydig cell tumor is a gonadal tumor of sex-cord stromal type, similar to that seen in of the various phases of testicular development in the male. This tumor is exceedingly rare, accounting for only 0.1% to 0.5% of all primary ovarian neoplasms. It occurs predominantly in the second and third decades(mean age about 25 years), less than 10% after menopause. We investigated a case of poorly differentiated Sertoli-Leydig cell tumor of right ovary, occured in a 76-year-old woman. Grossly, the tumor measured 2, 100 gm in weight and 25 x 19 x 8 cm in dimensions. The outer surface was smooth and glistening without rupture of the capsule. Cut sections revealed a multilobulated brown solid mass with multiple cystic change. Microscopically, it showed the typical findings o a Sertoli-Leydig cell tumor. The characteristic feature is hemangiopericytoma paftem of sarcomatoid spindle cells. Therefore, we present it with a brief review of the literature.

Korean Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine 2009;21(4):388-395
OBJECTIVES: Nurses' turnover has a negative influence on the nursing staff, as well as on the hospital organization as a whole. In an effort to reduce the turnover of nurses, the conditions causing turnover intentions can be identified and managed. The research is conducted to identify the association among verbal abuse, social support, and turnover intentions for special unit nurses. METHODS: A survey was conducted in 105 registered nurses who worked in the following areas at Kyonggi province hospital: operating room, intensive care unit, and anesthesia department. The questionnaires included questions in the following areas: verbal abuse by doctors, supervisors, and colleagues social supports by supervisors and colleagues and turnover intention. The survey was distributed and analyzed based on nurses' responses. RESULTS: Operating room nurses had the highest turn over intentions. The verbal abuse by doctors and supervisors were highest in the operating room. Verbal abuse by supervisors had a significantly positive association with turnover intentions. Verbal abuse by doctors and by colleagues was not associated with the intention to leave. Finally, the social support by supervisors had a significant negative association with turnover intentions. Social supports by colleagues did not affect turnover intentions. CONCLUSIONS: For nurses working at special units, verbal abuse and social support by supervisors had a significant association with turnover intentions. It is important for supervisors to make an effort to reduce nurses' turnover intentions by reducing verbal abuse and by increasing social support.

Journal of Korean Neurosurgical Society 1997;26(3):335-346
Temporary interruption of cerebral blood flow is an effective maneuver to prevent and/or to control excessive bleeding during cerebrovascular procedures. Despite the benefits of temporary arterial occlusion, there is still a risk of ischemic neuronal damage associated with this procedure. It remains controversial whether it is safer to use brief periods of interrupted temporary occlusion separated by reperfusion periods or single continuous temporary occlusion. Two injury mechanisms, disturbed calcium homeostasis and lipid peroxidation, participate in the neuronal damage caused by temporary occlusion but their contributions to the two different types of temporary occlusion are presumed to be different in some degrees. The authors investigated the effect of nimodipine(calcium channel blocker) and U74389G(21-aminosteroid, lipid peroxidation inhibitor) on the focal cerebral blood flow and the size of cerebral infarction in two different types of temporary occlusion(a single, one hour continuous occlusion or three 20-minute repeated occlusions during a 40-minute interval) using the cat focal ischemic model. Results are as follows: 1) Intermittent, repeated occlusion caused lesser cerebral infarction than single continuous occlusion. 2) Postischemic hypoperfusion was more severe in intermittent repeated occlusion group but it was not statistically significant. 3) Nimodipine and U74389G reduced the size of cerebral infarction caused by two types of temporary occlusions significantly but there was no difference between two treatments. 4) U74389G ameliorated the postischemic hypoperfusion caused by both types of temporary occlusion but nimodipine did not. 5) Nimodipine protected caudato-putamen from the ischemic injury more effectively than U74389G. On the basis of the above findings, both types of injury mechanism(disturbed calcium homeostasis and lipid peroxidation) seemed to contribute to the two types of temporary occlusion(single continuous and intermittent repeated), in the similar extent. It is presumed that nimodipine has a preventive effect during the ischemic period and U74389G has a protective effect during reperfusion period.

Journal of the Korean Academy of Rehabilitation Medicine 2003;27(5):653-660
OBJECTIVE: To assess the effects of partial weight bearing (PWB) harness with comparison of traditional exercise program by gait analysis in non-ambulatory acute stroke patients. METHOD: Nine patients participated with PWB harness on the treadmill, and nine patients with traditional exercise. In harness group, the gait training with 30% weight reduction was offered on treadmill, they were treated daily and gait training was done for 20 minutes. In no-harness group, traditional gait training was done by physical therapists. Variables were gait parameters assessed by VICON 370 Gait Analyzer, other function tested by Motricity Index and Functional Ambulatory Category. RESULTS: In linear parameter, the harness group had faster gait speed, longer stride length, and more decreased double support time compared to the no-harness group. In kinematic parameters, the maximal flexion of knee was significantly increased in harness group, but no significant differences was in hip and ankle motion. In kinetic parameters, hip flexion moment of normal side was increased in harness group at heel strike phase, knee flexion moment of normal side was decreased in harness group at heel strike phase. CONCLUSION: The gait training with partial weight bearing harness was more effective in acute stroke patients than traditional therapy, and was influenced in gait pattern, functional ability.

Journal of Nutrition and Health 2020;53(5):464-475
Purpose:
This study compared the effects of a high glycemic load (high GL) diet and low glycemic load (low GL) diet on the body weight, body fat, blood pressure, and blood lipid indicators.
Methods:
Twenty-one young adults aged between 21 and 28 years who were overweighted or obese (body mass index [BMI] between 23 and 33.5 kg/㎡ ) before the study and after calorie reduction diets with either low GL or high GL for 2 weeks each were examined. The study was a randomized crossover design with a 2-week washout period between the 2 types of diet. The order of the low GL and high GL diet periods was randomized. The body weight, body fat, blood pressure, levels of blood lipids, fasting glucose, insulin, homeostatic model assessment (HOMA) insulin, C-peptide, and HOMA C-peptide were measured at the baseline, as well as 2, 4, and 6 weeks after starting the experiment.
Results:
When subjects were on the low GL diet, they lost more weight than those eating the high GL diet (mean ± SD, −2.77 ± 1.09 vs. −1.56 ± 0.78 kg; p < 0.001); there were greater decreases in body fat mass (−1.62 ± 1.19 vs. −0.88 ± 0.91 kg; p = 0.024) and BMI (−0.95 ± 0.32 vs. −0.56 ± 1.08 kg/㎡ ; p < 0.001). On the other hand, there were no significant differences in changes in biochemical parameters, such as blood lipids and fasting glucose levels, and blood pressure. The body weight, body fat mass, BMI, percent body fat, blood pressure, cholesterol (total, low-density lipoprotein, and high-density lipoprotein), fasting glucose, C-peptide, HOMA-insulin resistance-C-peptide levels were decreased significantly at 6 weeks.
Conclusion
The low GL diet may be more effective in losing body weight, body fat mass, and BMI than the high GL diet for 2 weeks in healthy young overweight or obese adults.
