8.THE TENSLE BOND STRENGTH AND ELASTIC MODULUS OF THE SOFT DENTURE LINING MATERIALS.

This study was to compare the tensile bond strength and flexibility of four different soft liners(Coe Soft, Soft Relining, Soft Liner, Dura Base Soft) before & after thermocycling. Each soft liner was bonded to denture base resin block, and measured the tensile bond strength and modulus of elasticity using Universal testing machine. The mean value of tensile bond strength and modulus of elasticity for each experimental groups were statistically processed by SPSS(Statistical Package of Social Sience). The obtained results were as follows : 1. Dura Base Soft had the highest tensile bond strength and Coe Soft had the lowest tensile bond strength. 2. Coe Soft had the lowest modulus of elasticity, and Dura Base Soft had the highest modulus of elasticity of all the soft liners. 3. Thermocycling \ no effects on the tensile bond strength and modulus of elasticity of all the soft liners. 4. The failure modes of Coe Soft, Soft Relining, Soft Liner were mainly cohesive failure and that of Dura Base Soft were mainly adhesive failure.

9.Experimentally Induced Pyogenic Arthritis of Rabbit Knees: Comparative Study of MR Imaging and Pathology.

PURPOSE: To compare the MR imaging findings of experimentally induced pyogenic arthritis of rabbit knees with the corresponding histopathologic findings. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Infection was induced in 20 rabbit knees by direct intra-articular injection of Staphylococcus aureus. The animals were divided into four groups of five rabbits each, and spin-echo sagittal T1-and T2-weighted images were obtained 3 days, 1 week, 2 weeks, and 4 weeks, respectively, after staphylococcal inoculation. MR-pathologic correlation was performed, with emphasis on intra-and extra-articular soft tissue lesion characteristics. Soft tissue lesion signal intensity (SI) was classified as low, iso, or high on the basis of that of muscle, and high SI was further subdivided into three categories. RESULTS: At T2-weighted imaging, all soft tissue lesions showed high SI. Pathologic examination revealed the presence of inflammatory cell infiltration (n=2), abscess (n=1), granulation tissue (n=3), fibrosis (n=11), edema (n=4), congestion (n=9), and joint fluid (n=11). Except for the abscess, these lesions were irregular in shape and had variable SI (grade 1-3) and at T2WI could not, therefore, be differentiated. In nine kness, extraarticular soft-tissue lesions were demonstrated at T2WI and correlated with infectious soft tissue lesions such as inflammatory cell infiltration, abscess, granulation tissues and fibrosis; and non-infectious reactive soft tissue changes such as edema and congestion. CONCLUSION: In pyogenic arthritis, the MR imaging features of soft tissue lesions varied and were nonspecific, depending on the histopathologic abnormalities observed. Our results indicate that in assessing the extent of pyogenic arthritis with MR imaging, caution is required.

10.Variation of the External Ocular Muscular Artery.

The muscular branches of the ophthalmic artery have been described as the superior muscular artery and the inferior muscular artery. However, the definition of the muscluar arteries and their distribution has not been clarified. Therefore, the muscular branches of the ophthalmic artery in 80 orbits of Korean adults were observed under the surgical microscope. The inferior muscular artery was observed in 87.5% of the materials and the superior muscular artery was observed in 32.5%. The commen muscular branch distributing to the adjacent two muscles was observed more frequently(81.3%). The superior muscular artery and the common muscular branches were similar in their distribution according to their site of origin. Therefore, they were classified into the superolateral and superomedial arteries. The superolateral muscular artery was observed in 58.6%. and the superomedial muscular artery was observed in 71.3%. This study suggests that the ocular muscular arteries are better classified into 3 groups, namely inferior, superolateral, and superomedial muscular arteries.
