PURPOSE: To evaluate the specific findings of angiography for various causes of gastrointestinal bleeding. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed 35 patients of gastrointestinal bleeding detected by angiography, between April 1987 and July 1993. There were 28 men and 7 women, 19 to 83 years old (mean, 47 years). Of these 35 cases of gastrointestinal bleedings, there were 12 gastric bleedings, 4 duodenal bleedings, 9 small intestinal bleeings, 6 ileocecal bleedings, and 4 large intestinal bleedings. RESULTS: Of 35 cases, we could diagnose the specific cause of bleeing in 13 patients (37%) by angiography. Of these 13 cases, there were 4 cases of gastric ulcers showing contrast pooling in ulcer crater, 5 cases of vascular malformations showing anomalous vascular mass with early dilated venous drainage, 2 cases of direct invasion of hepatocellular carcinoma showing invasion of hypervascular mass into small bowel, one case of pseudoaneurysm at gastroduodenal artery in a patient of acute pancreatitis, and one case of small intestinal lymphoma showing contrast pooling in a irregular dilated small intestinal lumen. CONCLUSION: in gastrointestinal bleeding, angiography is useful not only in detecting the bleeding site, but also for evaluating the specific causes such as gastric ulcers or vascular malformations.

PURPOSE: The purpose of the study was to have an in-depth understanding of delivery room nurses'experiences of caring for stillborn babies and their parents. METHODS: After obtaining approval from the Institutional Review Board, data were collected from March 1 to August 30, 2016. A total of six nurses participated in the study. Semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted and the data subsequently analyzed. RESULTS: Using thematic analysis, six themes were defined and refined: Emotional distress as a result of encountering stillborn babies; Caring for the deceased baby; Concerns for the mother's pain; Consideration for the father; Conflicts between accepting and dismissing parents' requests; and Strong mindset for the stillborn babies and their parents. CONCLUSION: The results showed that the nurses' experiences of caring for stillborn babies and their parents might be a difficult and lonely process. However, it could also be a process of attaining maturity by finding meaning and value in one's work. It would be helpful for the delivery room nurses to share examples of effective communication, train through simulation, and learn useful strategies that each nurse can use.

PURPOSE: This research was aimed to explore the major subjects and research theme and to classify characteristics of the key words in recent Korean Journal of Women Health Nursing. METHOD: With survey design, whole 103 published papers during 2003-2006 were analyzed with structured analysis form; research subjects, research methodology, data analysis, and key words of the published papers were classified and extracted. Various theme was founded and classified to 9 domains. RESULT: Most of the research subjects were women. Eighty-eight percent of papers conducted quantitative research; 83% chose convenience sampling and 69% used survey design, while experimental design was 29%. Key words were categorized 9 domains: demographic, health related concept, health behavior(intervention), sex-related, life event, disease, et al. Among 9 domains, health related concept, especially psycho-social topics such as depression, anxiety, stress were mostly studied and then physiologic topics such as labor pain, fatigue, and menstrual symptoms. CONCLUSION: Most of the subjects were women and the most common domain studied was health related concepts in Korean Journal of Women Health Nursing. And key words and topics were on women's health issues. We can conclude that Korean Journal of Women Health Nursing has published by her own philosophy.

Edwards syndrome, also called trisomy 18, is one of the most common autosomal anomalies. The survival rate of patients with Edwards syndrome is very low and its characteristic findings include cardiac malformations, mental retardation, growth retardation, specific craniofacial anomalies, clenched hands, rocker-bottom feet, and omphalocele. Compared with the classic Edwards syndrome, the symptom of partial duplication of chromosome 18 is relatively mild with a good prognosis. We report the case of a baby with partial duplication 18q11.2-q12. The characteristic phenotype features of Edwards syndrome were observed in the patient. However, the symptom was milder than the typical Edwards syndrome. At present, we can expect better prognosis for this patient.

We report a case of catheter-related bacteremia due to Tsukamurella pulmonis. T. pulmonis is a rare cause of opportunistic infection in immunosuppressed patients and in cases of indwelling foreign materials. This infection was nearly impossible to identify using conventional phenotyping methods because of its similarities to the related genera Nocardia, Rhodococcus, Gordonia, Streptomyces, Corynebacterium, and Mycobacterium. This organism was initially misidentified as Mycobacterium aubagnense through PCR-RFLP analysis. We correctly identified this organism using 16S rRNA sequencing combined with phenotyping tests.

PURPOSE: The study aimed to explore the health consequences that women experienced after miscarriage and the factors related to them. METHODS: A convenience sample consisting of 102 women who had miscarried within 2 years was used. Women were recruited from hospitals and enterprises in Seoul and Gyeong-Gi Province. Participants completed a self-administered questionnaire containing a physical and psychological symptoms checklist developed for this study. RESULTS: More than 40% of the miscarriages occurred after 9 weeks of pregnancy and 35% of women were found to have had a previous miscarriage prior to this study. Psychological symptoms were more prevalent and prolonged than the physical symptoms, furthermore, the frequencies of the symptoms experiencedwere not consistent with the duration of symptoms. Employed women and women with early miscarriages complained of more physical symptoms; however, psychological symptoms were not different according to women's characteristics. Employment was a significant factor affecting physical symptoms. CONCLUSION: Health care professionals need to inform and educate women and the family of the potential health changes during the recovery after the miscarriage. Health consequences due to miscarriages also need to be incorporated in women's reproductive health care. Nursing care should consider factors of maternal age, employment status, and obstetrical conditions upon the apparent social changes.

A complete cDNA sequence encoding a pore-forming subunit (Kir6.2) of ATP-senstive potassium channel in the adult worm, Clonorchis sinensis, termed CsKir6.2, was isolated from an adult cDNA library. The cDNA contained a single open-reading frame of 333 amino acids, which has a structural motif (a GFG-motif) of the putative pore-forming loop of the Kir6.2. Peculiarly, the CsKir6.2 shows a lack-sequence structure, which deleted 57 amino acids were deleted from its N-terminus. The predicted amino acid sequence revealed a highly conserved sequence as other known other Kir6.2 subunits. The mRNA was weekly expressed in the adult worm.

A 42-year-old male patient presented with refractory hypertension and congestive heart failure. He had taken hydrochlorthiazide 50 mg, carvedilol 25 mg, diltiazem 180 mg, and losartan 100 mg per day. Aortogram revealed a severe luminal narrowing in the distal thoracic aorta with a peak systolic pressure gradient of 60 mmHg across the lesion. Endovascular management was performed with 22 x 80 mm self-expandable Nitinol-S stent after predilation with 10 x 40 mm balloon. After endovascular management, the patient's blood pressure, left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) and dilated LV dimension were remarkably improved.

Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is a critical source of infections in neonatal intensive care units. Early diagnosis and treatment are important due to the significant morbidity of MRSA infection. MRSA sepsis can be disseminated despite antibiotics, therefore the extent of the infection should be evaluated. Common complications of MRSA sepsis include infective endocarditis, pneumonia, osteomyelitis, meningitis, septic shock.Urgent evaluation of other possible suppurative complications in neoate are necessary. Therefore echocardiogram, chest X-ray, ophthalmic examination, brain sonography and spinal tapping are needed. In this study, we present a case of MRSA sepsis in a preterm infant, accompanied by endophthalmitis and endocarditis in spite of the early diagnosis and treatment.

Purpose: To determine whether the prognostic impact of lymph node ratio (LNR), defined as the ratio between the number of positive lymph nodes and removed lymph nodes, differs between open and minimally invasive surgical approaches for radical hysterectomy (RH) in node-positive, early-stage cervical cancer. Materials and Methods: We retrospectively identified 2009 International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics stage IB1-IIA2 patients who underwent primary type C RH between 2010 and 2018. Among them, only those with pathologically proven lymph node metastases who received adjuvant radiation therapy were included. The prognostic significance of LNR was investigated according to open surgery and minimally invasive surgery (MIS). Results: In total, 55 patients were included. The median LNR (%) was 9.524 (range, 2.083–62.500). Based on receiver operating characteristic curve analysis, the cut-off value for LNR (%) was determined as 8.831. Overall, patients with high LNR (≥8.831%;n=29) showed worse disease-free survival (DFS) than those with low LNR (<8.831%, n=26) (p=0.027), whereas no difference in overall survival was observed. Multivariate analyses adjusting for clinicopathologic factors revealed that DFS was adversely affected by both MIS [adjusted hazard ratio (HR), 8.132; p=0.038] and high LNR (adjusted HR, 10.837; p=0.045). In a subgroup of open surgery cases, LNR was not associated with disease recurrence. However, in a subgroup of MIS cases, high LNR was identified as an independent poor prognostic factor for DFS (adjusted HR, 14.578; p=0.034). Conclusion In patients with node-positive, early-stage cervical cancer, high LNR was associated with a significantly higher disease recurrence rate. This relationship was further consolidated among patients who received MIS RH.
