PURPOSE: This study analyzes the trends of nursing researches about organ donation and transplantation, and recommends the direction of future nursing studies in Korea. METHODS: Ninety-nine researches based upon organ donation and transplantation in Korea were analyzed by descriptive statistics. RESULTS: Among them 58 papers were master's theses and 9 were doctoral dissertations. Articles about organ beneficiaries were seventy. The 47 articles among them were for kidney transplantation. By the types of research design, there were 73 quantitative studies, 19 qualitative studies, and 9 methodological studies. In correlation studies, the quality of life of subjects were evaluated the association with stress, social support, self-efficacy, and compliance. In experimental studies, the independent variables were self efficacy promotion exercise, steroid medication, educational programs regarding an organ transplantation and a brain death, Danjeon breathing exercise, and telephone counseling. The methods of qualitative studies were based on the grounded theory, phenomenology, interpretive phenomenology, and ethnography. The dominant concepts of qualitative researches were experiences of a decision-making of donors and of recipients for organ transplantation. CONCLUSION: Descriptive surveys or correlation studies were predominant on the nursing research about organ transplantation. Qualitative studies were conducted to some extent. It is recommended to conduct clinically applicable interventional researches with the experimental design.

PURPOSE: This descriptive correlation study was done to identify how perception of patient safety culture of general hospital nurses affects safety during nursing activities. Data from this study should provide information on management of patient safety as well as improvement in patient safety. METHOD: Participants in this study were 357 clinical nurses working in a general hospital in M city which had two medical evaluations. A survey was conducted to gather the data. RESULTS: The score for perception of patient safety culture of the general hospital nurses was 3.42, out of a possible 5 points, and the score for safety care activities was 3.90. There was a statistically significant positive relationship between the nurses' perception of patient safety culture and their safety care activities, Perception of patient safety culture, Supervisor/manager, communication and procedures, and frequency of accident reporting were factors that impacted significantly on safety nursing activity. CONCLUSION: The results of the study indicate that patient safety cultural perception significantly affects the safety of nursing activities and thus systematic educational strategies to increase perception should be provided to increase the level of patient safety culture. Also, other specific methods that increase the level of patient safety culture should be considered.

In comparison with normal cervix, mitosis occur more frequently in cervical intraepithelial neoplasia(CIN) and are seen at high levels, suggesting that CIN may be associated with a progressive dysfunction in proliferative activity of cervical cells. This study aims that expression of proliferative cell nuclear antigen(PCNA) was examined to determine proliferative activity at the cell of CIN. Sixty four colposcopic biopsies from patients with cytologically and/or colposcopically dtagnosed condyloma and CIN. The cases were classified as follows ; 19 as normal cervix and condyloma, 15 as CIN I, 16 as CIN II and 14 as CIN III. Immunohistochemical detection of PCNA was performed on paraffin sections by the streptavidin-biotin peroxidase method using the monoclonal antibody PC10. There was a statisically significant correlation between the CIN grade and the PCNA grade(p<0.05). In addition, the PCNA grade showed significant correlation with mitotic grade(p<0.05) and the CIN grade was also observed(p<0.05). This study suggests that the cell proliferation index as detected immunohistochemically using PCNA may be a useful adjunct to histopathological diagnosis of various grades of CIN.

PURPOSE: This study was done to investigate the effects of university hospital nurses' organizational conflict between organizational commitment and labor union commitment, so as to provide data on prevention of conflict with the hospital and to improve work achievement with commitment of two different groups: hospital and labor union commitment. METHODS: Data collection was conducted from May 15 to 31, 2011 for nurses registered in the labor union of a university hospital. The collected data were analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe test and multiple regression. RESULTS: Organizational commitment of the nurses showed significant differences according to age, position and work experience, and degree of labor union commitment according to academic achievement. The factors affecting labor union commitment were organizational conflict and recognition of need for labor union, which accounted for 19% of the variance. Factors affecting organizational commitment were organizational conflict, recognition of need for labor union, participation in organizational events, and renewal of membership in the union, which accounted for 33% of the variance. CONCLUSION: The results of this study indicate that there is a need to improve work achievement by minimizing conflict and preventing labor disputes for better organizational commitment and labor union commitment of nurses.

PURPOSE: This study is descriptive study that confirms the affect of the factors of perceived stress and social support of the kidney transplantation recipient affect on the quality of life. METHODS: 167 subjects who have received kidney transplantation in a university hospital in G city. Data obtained are analyzed by SPSS Win 13.0. RESULTS: The perceived stress based on transplantation related characteristics and general traits of kidney transplantation has significant differences only in frequency of admission. The subjects who had been supported by acquittances have more significant social support index. The quality of life has significant differences in number of admissions, gender and occupation. Also, when the perceived stress of kidney transplantation recipients is lower and social support is higher, the quality of life is higher. The perceived stress has 28.1% increment of quality of life. Adding social support, both of them affect 34.8% increment of quality of life. CONCLUSION: To decrease the factor to cause the stress of kidney transplantation recipients, it is necessary to have social support networks and to develop plans and programs to increase the quality of life of recipients.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the clinical effect and reproductive outcome of pelviscopic ovarian drilling in infertile patients with polycystic ovarian syndrome resistant to clomiphene citrate. METHODS: Twenty two patients involved in this study were taken pelviscopic ovarian drilling with needle electrocautery. Change of characteristic LH/FSH ratio before and after operative treatment, ovulation and pregnancy success were followed up. Paired t-test was applied for hormonal change (p<0.05). RESULTS: Thirteen of 14 patients (93%) treated only with pelviscopic ovarian drilling showed successful ovulation with or without clomiphene citrate and among these 10 patients (71%) were success in pregnancy and 9 patients delivered full term babies. When including patients who needed other assisted reproductive technique and specific medication of endometriosis 17 of 22 patients (77%) were successfully pregnant and 15 patients (68%) delivered healthy babies. The mean LH/FSH ratio 2.0+/-0.5 before treatment were decreased to 1.26+/-0.37 after treatment (p<0.05). Interestingly, among 22 patients, various degree endometriosis were found during pelviscopy and specific medication with GnRH analogue were followed. CONCLUSION: Pelviscopic ovarian drilling showed successful ovulation rate and effective reproductive outcome in clomiphene-resistant infertile patients with PCO. This surgical technique seems to be an alternative step for the management of clomiphene-resistant infertile patients with PCO and also for the diagnosis of possible high rate of endometriosis in these patents.

Twenty-five neonates were observed for the relationship between phenobrbital loading dose, plasma concentrations and control of seizures. Nineteen neonates (76%) had seizures controlled by phenobarbital alone. Effective plasma concentration were 10.0~31.1microgram/ml. Although 14 neonates had seizures controlled by phenobarbital concentration below 20microgram/ml, neonate required level above 30microgram/ml. We found that continued benefit was obtained until phenobarbital plasma concentrations reached 40microgram/ml and there was no adverse effects on cardiorespiratory function. We recommend that plasma phenobarbital concentrations should equal or surpass 40microgram/ml before additional anticonvulsants are used for neonates with seizure.
