OBJECTIVE: To investigate whether polymorphisms of gene encoding CYP1B1 is associated with the risk of endometriosis in Korean women. METHODS: We investigated 199 patients with histopathologically confirmed endometriosis rAFS stage III/IV and 183 control group women who were surgically proven to have no endometriosis. The genetic distribution of four different CYP1B1 polymorphisms at G119-T, G432-C, T449-C, and A453-G were analyzed by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and restriction fragment length polymorphism of PCR products. RESULTS: We found no overall association between each individual CYP1B1 genotype and the risk of endometriosis. The odds ratio of genotype GG/GC+GG/TC+TT/AA compared to GG/CC/CC/AA (reference) was calculated as 2.06 with a 95% confidence interval of 1.003~4.216. CONCLUSIONS: This results suggest that CYP1B1 genetic polymorphism may be associated with development of endometriosis in Korean women.

Bacille Calmette-Guerin (BCG) lymphadenitis is the most common complication of BCG vaccination. It commonly occurs in infants aged <6 months involving ipsilateral axillary lymph nodes. We described BCG lymphadenitis in a 22-month-old boy presenting swelling of left supraclavicular lymph node that was confirmed by real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and the multiplex PCR targeting the region of difference (RD).

Acupuncture with gold needle insertion is utilized in Oriental medicine, and the effect of therapy is represented by anti-inflammatory and analgesic function, But sometimes the needle is erroneously inserted into abdominal organs, and then it may cause dangerous complications. We report a case of multiple gold needles in the abdominal organs without having definete clinical symptoms.

Purpose: This study explores nursing students’ perception and experience of injustice in clinical practice and to devise ways to improve the quality and increase satisfaction with clinical practice. Methods: This study was conducted from December 9-28, 2021 among 22 nursing students with clinical practice experience attending two universities in Jeollabuk-do. Focus group interviews were used for collecting data that were analyzed using qualitative content analysis. Results: A total of four main analysis units were derived from 220 statements comprising, the original data, and 30 concepts were identified through 112 meaningful statements. The injustice that nursing students perceived during clinical practice consisted of four categories: ‘not respected,’ ‘not guaranteed safety,’ ‘not protected by the system,’ ‘not resolved structural problems in clinical practice.’ Each category was derived from a statement based on the 'injustice in clinical practice' perceived by nursing students in the course of clinical practice. Conclusion To maintain quality in clinical practice and promote nursing students’ satisfaction with clinical practice, continuous problem analysis and multilateral efforts of clinical and educational institutions are considered necessary.

We investigated the factors related to successful relactation by assessing the impact of medications, supplementer, consultations, and family support. METHODS: A retrospective review of the medical records and telephone survey of mothers who had visited the relactation clinic were conducted from January 2004 to April 2007. RESULTS: Data from 84 mothers were analyzed to identify the factors associated with success in relactation. Seventy-five percent of the mothers succeeded in obtaining exclusive breastfeeding. Success in relactation was associated with informed referral from medical personnel, the use of galactogogues, and family support. CONCLUSION: This study provides new and noteworthy insights concerning relactation. This highlights the need to inform the mothers about the data of relactation, to use galactogogues, and to have their families involved for psychological support and endurance during visits to the relactation clinic.

We report a case of reversible pituitary enlargement due to hypothyroidism in a 3-year-old male. OnT1-weighted images, the mass was located in the anterior lobe of the pituitary gland, and the signal intensity ofthe mass was equal to that of brain cortex. Gd-DTPA enhanced T1-weighted images showed homogeneous enhancement ofthe mass. After supplemental therapy with thyroid hormone for 8 months, MRI showed that the pituitary gland wasmarkedly smaller.
