Purpose: : This study aimed to investigate the characteristics and risk factors associated with pressure injuries related to medical devices among patients admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU).Method : A retrospective study analyzed data from 462 ICU patients. Statistical analyses, including independent t-tests, Fisher’s exact tests, and logistic regression were performed to analyze the data. Results: : Among the 154 subjects, there were a total of 198 medical device–related pressure injuries (MDRPI). Stage 2 and deep tissue pressure injuries were the most frequent. MDRPI occurred most frequently on the face, with nasogastric tubes being its leading cause, followed by endotracheal tubes. The risk factors for MDRPI included male sex (odds ratio [OR]=1.78, 95% confidence interval [CI]=1.12-2.83), department at the time of ICU admission (OR=4.29, 95% CI=2.01-9.15), post-surgery ICU admission (OR=0.43, 95% CI=0.25-0.73), application of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation machines (OR=2.72, 95% CI=1.06-6.95), number of medical devices (OR=1.16, 95% CI=1.05-1.30), inotropic drug administration (OR=2.33, 95% CI=1.19-4.60), and sedative use (OR=2.53, 95% CI=1.17-5.45). Conclusion : These results enable the determination of the characteristics and risk factors associated with MDRPI. It is crucial to acknowledge the risk factors for MDRPI in ICU patients and establish a prevention strategy.

OBJECTIVES: This study sought to evaluate trabecular changes in the mandible using fractal analysis and to explain the transient osteopenia related to rapid orthodontic tooth movement after orthognathic surgery. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Panoramic radiographs were taken of 26 patients who underwent bilateral sagittal split ramus osteotomy. Radiographs taken before the surgery and 1 month after surgery were overlapped, and 40x40 pixel square regions of interest were selected near the mandibular canines and 1st molars. After the image processing procedure, the fractal dimension was calculated using the box-counting method. RESULTS: Fractal dimension after orthognathic surgery decreased in a statistically significant manner (P<0.05). The change in fractal dimension on the canine side had greater statistical significance as compared to that seen on the 1st molar side. CONCLUSION: This study found that bone density decreases after orthognathic surgery due to transient osteopenia related to the regional acceleratory phenomenon. This result can provide a guide to evaluating orthodontic tooth movement after orthognathic surgery.

OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of self-esteem and social support on the depression stati of some clinical nurses, and propose basic data for a depression care program. METHODS: Between March 31 and April 5 at 2006, a self-reporting questionnaire survey was administered to 200 nurses at a general hospital located in Gyeonggi-do. The Beck's Depression Inventory (BDI) was used to assess the subjects'depression stati. RESULTS: The average BDI score of the clinical nurses was 8.9+/-7.5, with 59% belonging to the normal category, 28% having mild depressive symptoms, and 13% with a moderate degree of depressive symptoms. The degree of depression was significantly increased in the clinical nurses with a lower self-esteem and less social support. The degree of depression was significantly increased in the clinical nurses with a lower self-esteem and less social support. According to a multivariate regression analysis, a significant association was found between self-esteem and social support in relation to the depression of clinical nurses. The effect of social support was found to not be significant in cases where the self-esteem was high: however, depression was significantly influenced by social support in cases where the self-esteem was low. CONCLUSION: Self-esteem and social support were observed to influence the depression stati of clinical nurses. Therefore, it is suggested that an increase in depression management programs is required to create systematic management to maintain an atmosphere of high self-esteem and close relationships to manage the depression of clinical nurses.

OBJECTIVES: This study compared cognitive-behavioral traits related to eating behaviors, obsessive-compulsive traits, and depression levels in bulimic subjects with and without a history of anorexia nervosa according to the perspective that there are common diagnostic transitions over time in subgroups of eating disorders (anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and eating disorder not otherwise specified). METHODS: We compared EDI-2, MOCI, and BDI scores between the bulimic group with a history of anorexia (n=98), the bulimic group without a history of anorexia (n=99), and the non-clinic group (n=100) by ANOVA. RESULTS: The bulimic group with a history of anorexia showed significantly higher scores on four of the EDI-2 subscales (Ineffectiveness, Interoceptive Awareness, Impulse Regulation and Social Insecurity) than the other two groups. They also indicated significantly higher scores on both the MOCI subscale 'rumination' and BDI than both the other groups. CONCLUSION: These findings suggest that it is important to consider a prior history of anorexia nervosa in order to understand symptom severity in patients with bulimia. Psychological variables such as ineffectiveness, impulse regulation, social insecurity, rumination, and depression are crucial to consider while treating bulimics with a history of anorexia.

METHODS: The data derived from the baseline data of the Internet user Cohort for Unbiased Recognition of gaming disorder in Early Adolescence. A total 1,532 middle school students who use online games included. The participants reported the names of the online games they used during the past year. Game genres were categorized into role playing games (RPGs), shooting, multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA), simulation, arcade, sports and action games. The risk of IGD was measured using the Internet Gaming Use-Elicited symptom Screen. The relationship between the experience of online game genre and high risk of IGD was analyzed using multiple logistic regression model. RESULTS: The game time of a student was longer if he or she had an experience of RPGs, shooting games, MOBA games, simulation games, and action games. The direct and independent association between high risk of IGD in adolescents and the genres of RPGs, simulation games and MOBA were found to be odds ratios 1.52 (95% confidence interval [CI], 1.03 to 2.26); 1.59 (95% CI, 1.03 to 2.45); and 1.51 (95% CI, 1.03 to 2.21), respectively after adjusted the potential confounding variables and the use of other online game genres. CONCLUSIONS The present cross-sectional study has found an association between online game genres and the risk of IGD in adolescents attending a school. A cohort study should verify the causal association in future.

Organized hematoma of maxillary sinus is a rare pathologically benign mass in which pressure in the hematoma increases as it undergoes a process of organization, causing the deformation of the surrounding tissue, mimicking malignancies. The midfacial degloving approach can be used when extensive exposure is required in the treatment of lesions or traumas in the midfacial area with intranasal and intraoral incisions. We report a surgical excision case of organized hematoma of maxillary sinus using midfacial degloving approach without major complications and recurrence after one-year follow up.

Endometriosis is a common gynecologic disease, it occur not only pelvic organ but also anywhere in human body. However inguinal endometriosis is a very rare condition, its incidence is 0.4% of entire endometriosis. Most of inguinal endometriosis are found as inguinal masses in women in 30s and 40s who have history of gynecologic surgery. Majority of the cases are accompanied with pelvic endometriosis. Authors report a case of inguinal endometriosis in patients who has no history of gynecological surgery.

Silent information regulator 2 (Sirtuin2 / SIRT2) is a NAD⁺-dependent deacetylase that regulates the cellular oxidative stress response. It modulates transcriptional silencing and protein stability through deacetylation of target proteins including histones. Previous studies have shown that SIRT2 plays a role in mood disorders and hippocampus-dependent cognitive function, but the underlying neurobiological mechanism is poorly understood. Here, we report that chronic stress suppresses SIRT2 expression in the hippocampus. Molecular and biochemical analyses indicate that the stress-induced decrease in the SIRT2 expression downregulates synaptic plasticity-related genes in the hippocampus through the increase of euchromatic histone-lysine N-methyltransferase 2 (Ehmt2) (also known as G9a). shRNA-mediated knockdown of SIRT2 in the dentate gyrus alters the expression of synaptic plasticity-related genes in a way similar to those induced by chronic stress, and produces depression-like behaviors. Our results indicate that SIRT2 plays an important role in the response to stress, thereby modulating depression-like behaviors.
