In order to study the chemical constituents of the plant of Hydrangea paniculata and provide reference for the study of the bioactive substances, we isolated nine compounds from the dried branches of H. paniculata. Their structures were determined by application of spectroscopic (NMR, MS) and chemical methods. These compounds were identified as skimmin (1), isotachioside (2), 8-methoxy-7-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyloxy coumarin glycoside (3), scopolin (4), 1-(alpha-L-rhamnosyl-(1 --> 6) -O-beta-D-glucopyranosyloxy) - 3, 4, 5-trimethoxybenzene (5), apiosylskimmin (6), umbelliferone (7), scopoletin (8), 7-hydroxy-8-methoxycoumarin (9). Compounds 1 - 7 were isolated from H. paniculata for the first time.

OBJECTIVETo investigate chemical constituents from Chinese herbal medicine Hydrangea macrophylla.
METHODThe compounds were separated and purified by column chromatography over silica gel, ODS, and preparative HPLC. Their structures were identified by spectral methods including 1H, 13C-NMR and MS.
RESULTEleven compounds were isolated and identified as zeorin, hopane-6, 22-diol (1), botulin (2), betulinic acid (3), 2-ethyl-3-methyl-maleimide-N-beta-D-glucopyranoside (4), uridine (5), thymidine (6), adenosine (7), nicotinamide (8), methyl pyroglutamate (9), hydrangenol (10) and hydrangenol-4'-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (11), respectively.
CONCLUSIONCompounds 14 and 7-9 were obtained from the genus Hydrangea for the first time.

The chemical constituents from methanol extract of Dichroa hirsuta were separated by silica gel and Sephadex LH-20 column chromatography, high pressure preparative liquid chromatography( HPLC) and recrystallization. Their structures were elucidated by NMR and MS. Nine compounds were obtained and their structures were identified as 3β,21α-O-diacetyl-lup-9( 11)-en-7β-ol( 1),( Z)-methyl p-hydroxycinnamate( 2),cis-p-coumaric acid ethyl ester( 3),( E)-methyl p-hydroxycinnamate( 4),trans-p-coumaric acid ethyl ester( 5),4( 3 H)-quinazolinone( 6),7-hydroxycoumarin( 7),hydrangenol( 8) and thunberginol C( 9). Compound 1 is a new lupane-type triterpenoid, and compounds 1-5,8-9 were firstly isolated from this plant. Dual reporter assay results showed that compounds 2-5 could activate the Nrf2-ARE signaling pathway.
