Objective To search for a better way than DSA to display the bronchial arterial (BA) supply of spinal cord, esophagus, trachea, etc., and for further evaluation of BA supply to the above structures, along with reducing the complications of trans-BA infusion and/or embolization. Methods Multislice CT angiography of BA (BA-MSCTA) was performed on 19 patients suffering from lung cancer or hemoptysis due to bronchiectasis after undergoing digital subtraction angiography BA (BA-DSA). Totally 10ml of 45% contrast medium was injected into BA (1~2 ml/s), BA-MSCTA was started 5 s after the injection, scanning from low cervical region to the bottom of lung (collimation: 5 mm; no overlapping reconstruction ). The intra-spinal canal, esophagus, trachea, etc. were enhanced. Results On BA-DSA, except one case in which a bronchial artery was faintly displayed, no spinal artery, intra-spinal canal, esophagus or trachea enhancement could be demonstrated. While on BA-MSCTA, intra-spinal canal associated with an intercostobronchial trunk enhancement due to truncus formation were observed in seven cases, including five cases of spinal enhancement (5/19,26.3%). 15 cases of esophageal enhancement and 18 cases of tracheal enhancement were also observed. Conclusion BA-CTA is superior to BA-DSA in displaying the BA supply of spinal cord, esophagus, trachea, etc.. Spinal arteries are more likely to appear in intercostobronchial truncus cases.

AIM: To clarify the possible mechanism of decrease in coronary flow (CF) after long-term hypothermic storage of the isolated rat hearts. METHODS: The isolated rat hearts preserved in different solutions (SDMC-1,2 S., Stanford S., Collin's S.) at 0℃ for 8 hours were reperfused with 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT)(10 -4 mmol/L) and adenosine(Ade)(5 mmol/L) respectively, and the coronary flow(CF), coronary vascular resistance(CVR) and the weight of heart were measured before and after reperfusion. RESULTS: CF decreased while CVR increased in all groups after storage-reperfusion. When endothelium-dependent vasodilator (5-HT) was used, CF in SDMC-2 group was highly increased and CVR decreased. Whereas CF was significantly decreased and CVR increased in Collin's group( P

Objective To assess the value of C-reactive protein(CRP) for the prognosis of acute pulmonary embolism (PE). Methods 56 acute pulmonary embolism patients, confirmed by spiral computed tomography (sCT), magnetic resonance imaging(MRI), or pulmonary angiography (CTPA). CRP as well as electrocardiogram (ECG), echocardiography(UCG), blood gas analysis, were taken after admission. Results Among these patients,24 cases with higher CRP(≥10 mg/L),were diagnosed as massive (50.0%), sub-massive PE(45.8%), mini-massive (4.2%) or died(25.0%). 24 cases (100.0%) showed right heart dysfunction and 24 cases showed pulmonary hy-pertension on UCG, right ventricular 20 (83.8%) on ECG, 22 cases (91.7%) showed hypoxemia. 8 cases (33.3%) had syncope, and 9 cases (37.5%) had cardiogenic shock. CRP was lower than 10 mg/L in 32 patients, among whom,3 cases (9.4%) were with massive PE,6 cases (18.8%) were with sub-massive PE,23(71.8%) were with small PE,1 cases(6.3%) died. 13 (40.6%) had right heart dysfunction and 16(50.6%) had pulmona-ry hypertension on UCG, right ventricular on ECG in 15 cases (46.9%), hypoxemia in 11 cases (34.4%), syncope in 2 cases (6.3%), cardiogenic shock in 4 cases (12.5%). The occurrence of massive PE, mortality (P<0.01) and sub-massive PE (P<0.05)were statistically different between the groups with higher CRP and the groups with lower CRP. The ratio of right heart dysfunction, pulmonary hypertension, right ventricular overloading, hypoxemia had statistical significance (P<0.01). There was statistical significance in the occurrence of syncope, cardiogenic shock (P<0.05). Conclusions CRP can be used as a parameter for PE, and can be used to stratify risk levels for severi-ty and assess the effectiveness of treatment.

Clinical Medicine of China 2008;24(8):806-808
Objective To explore the association of serum high-sensitivity C reactive protein (hs-CRP) level with leptin in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitns (T2DM). Methods 35 cases of T2DM patients were involved in the study and 16 normal subjects were taken as controls. Fasting serum leptin and CRP were measured .The relationship between them were also analyzed. Results Fasting serum hs-CRP concentration in T2DM group was higher than that in healthy control group, but serum ieptin levels is the same (P > 0.05). Partial correlation analysis demonstrated that fasting hs-CRP level was positively correlated with leptin (r =0.512 ,P =0. 018). Conclusion Fasting serum hs-CRP level is significantly raised in T2DM ,which is associated with leptin. There is chronic inflammatory reaction in T2DM patients, and leptin is possibly involved in inflammatory pathogenesis of T2DM.

OBJECTlVE To study the effect of ganoderma poIysaccharide( GLP)on zebrafish ( Danio rerio)survivaI,deveIopment and senescence. METHODS A p53-knockout zebrafish modeI was estabIished by injecting of morphoIino phosphorodiamidate(mO)into normaI zebrafish eggs in the singIe ceII deveIopment stage. Different concentrations of GLP 1,2 and 3 g·L-1 were used to treat both wiId type and p53-knockout zebrafish embryos 8 h post fertiIization(8 hpf)under 28℃ for 3 d. The survivaI and maIformation rates were caIcuIated after 72 hpf,and the effect of GLP on ceII senescence was evaI-uated by senescence associated β-gaIactosidase(SA-β-gaI)staining both in wiId type and p53-knockout zebrafish embryos. In addition, the differentiaI gene expression of cancer inhibitor gene(p53),teIomer-ase reverse transcriptase( TERT),murine doubIe minute2( mdm2)and p21 was examined by RT-PCR both in wiId type and p53-knockout zebrafish embryos after treatment with different concentrations of GLP. RESULTS GLP 1 and 2 g·L-1 had no effect on deveIopment of wiId type zebrafish embryos, but after GLP 3 g·L-1 treatment, most of zebrafish embryos dispIayed maIformation and the survivaI rate was onIy 48.6%. GLP 1,2 and 3 g·L-1 had no effect on survivaI and deveIopment of p53-knockout zebrafish embryos. After GLP 2 g·L-1 treatment for 3 d,the SA-β-gaI staining positive rate of wiId type zebrafish embryos was reduced compared with controI group(P﹤0.01),whiIe there was no significant change in p53-knockout zebrafish embryos. The resuIts of RT-PCR showed that GLP 2 g·L-1 treatment depressed p21 and p53 gene expression(P﹤0.05,P﹤0.01),and had no effect on mdm2 and TERTgene expres-sion of wiId type zebrafish embryos. For p53-knockout zebrafish embryos, the TERT,mdm2,p21 and p53 gene expression dispIayed no significant difference after GLP 2 g·L-1 treatment. CONCLUSlON GLP 2 g·L-1 may improve senescence of wiId type zebrafish embryo ceIIs. GLP ≥3 g·L-1 may Iead to death and abnormaI deveIopment of wiId type zebrafish embryos. The improvement of GLP on senescence of wiId type zebrafish embryo ceIIs might be mediated by its down-reguIation of p21 and p53 gene expression.

Objective To investigate the risk factors, clinical and angiographic features of women aged 50 or less with coronary artery disease(CAD). Methods One hundred and seventy-three female CAD patients comifrmed by coronary angiographic aged 50 or less were classiifed as group A, while another 494 non-CAD women aged 50 or less as group B. The differences in CAD risk factors, clinical and angiographic features between the 2 groups were analyzed. Results There were more women with diabetes, positive CAD family history, dyslipidemia or hypertension (especially diastolic hypertension) in group A than in group B. Patient in group A had higher diastolic pressures and serum glucose level than those in group B but both groups had similar body weights, systolic pressures and menopause ages. The serum total cholesterol and triglyceride levels were higher in patients in group A than those in group B while high-density-lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol and apolipoprotein A levels were lower in group A. The low-density-lipoprotein (LDL) and apolipoprotein B were higher in group A than in group B but without signiifcance. There were more women with positive urine protein in group A than in group B. In group A, more than 50%of patients were with single diseased artery while another 15%with slight coronary artery atherosclerosis or even normal arteries. Most of the lesions were found in left anterior descending artery (LAD) and its branches. Conclusions Risk factors of CAD included diabetes, positive CAD family history, dyslipidemia, hypertension(especially diastolic hypertension) and positive urine protein in women aged 50 or less Menopause alone, without other CAD risk factors, would not lead to CAD. Single vessel disease was more commonly found in this group of patients.
