Objective To analyze the causes of non-elective removal of pereutaneously inserted central venous catheters (PICC) in premature infants. Methods We retrospectively collected the clinical data of 104 premature infants and analyzed the causes of non-elective removal of PICC. Results PICC was removed when the treatment was finished (n = 93, elective removal group) or due to complications ( n = 7, non-elective removal group). In non-elective removal group, the percentage of catheter tip located in the subclavian jugular was signifi-cantly higher in non-elective removal group than in the elective removal group (X2 = 24.931, P = 0. 000 ). The length of inserted catheter was ( 8.4 + 2.2 ) cm in the non-elective removal group and ( ( 10.2:1:1.6) cm in the elective removal group ( t = 3. 391, P = 0. 001 ). Conclusion The main cause of non-elective removal of cathe-ters in premature infants may be that catheter tip fails to reach the vena cava.

Objective To explore the safety, therapeutic-effect-evaluating standards and clinical value of the interventional treatment used as preoperative chemotherapeutic embolism of pelvic tumors and palliative treatment of the patient unsuitable for surgery. Methods Twenty-nine cases of pelvic tumors with complete materials were selected from the cases treated by Seldinger’s interventional techniques from March 1997 to March 2002 and comprehensively analyzed. Results After the chemotherapeutic embolism, most of the arterial supply to the tumors were blocked off; the tumor stains were decreased by more than 75 %; the intra-operating bleeding ranged from 820 to 1530 ml and averaged 1220 ml; the surgical removals were successful. The pathological examinations of the postoperative specimens showed that the necrostic rate of tumor ranged 91%～98%; the remission rate of painful symptoms reached 100%. No severe complications were found in this series.Conclusion The interventional treatment of pelvic tumors is safe, reliable and simple in operation, and can reduce the intra-operative bleeding and improve the successful rate of the surgery. It is regarded not only as the effective auxiliary therapy before surgical removal, but also as the first-selected method for the palliative treatment of the patient unsuitable for the surgery.

The present investigation was designed to study, whether endogenous antinociceptive system is effective on mirror-image pain induced by peripheral inflammation. After Complete Freund's adjuvant (CFA) was subcutaneously injected into one hindpaw, besides heat hyperalgesia and mechanical allodynia from 1 h to 72 h at the injured site, contralateral mechanical allodynia was also induced at 1 h and significantly lasted for 24 h after injection, which was called mirror-image pain. To explore the effects of endogenous antinociceptive system on mirror-image pain, endomorphin (EM) 2 was intrathecally administered at doses of 0.2 μg, 2 μg, 20 μg and EM1 was given at the maximum dose of 20 μg by the same way, respectively, 10 min prior to CFA injection. The present results showed that three doses of EM2could reverse the decreased contralateral mechanical threshold from 48.03 ± 9.07 mN ( pre-treatment with vehicle) to 200.49 ± 53.68mN, 247.63 ± 49.43 mN and 250.57 ± 55.34 mN ( pre-treatments with EM2 ), respectively, but not in a significantly dose-dependent manner. On the other hand, intrathecal pre-treatment with EM1, the contralateral mechanical threshold was 51.24 ± 12.59 mN after CFA injection, which was similar to that pre-treatment with vehicle. It indicates that spinal EM1 did not have remarkable effect on mirror-image pain behavior. The present results provide evidence for that spinal EM2, but not EM1, mainly originated from the endogenous antinociceptive system might play an inhibitory role in mirror-image mechanical allodynia induced by peripheral tissue inflammation.

Objective To investigate the clinical value of joint detection of six tumor markers in patients with colorectal cancer. Objective To study the hydrogen sulfide productivity by mononuclear cells in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). Methods Mononuclear cells were extracted from peripherial blood of 60 AF patients and 30 healthy controls. Modified methylene blue method was used to evaluate the hydrogen sulfide productivity of mononuclear cells. Results Hydrogen sulfide productivity of mononuclear cells from AF patients was 92.5%higher than that from control [10.63 (8.21~14.37) μmol/(min.g protein) vs 5.52 (4.42~8.50) μmol/(min.g protein)]. Hydrogen sulfide productivity of mononuclear cells was correlated with the left atrial transverse diameter (r = 0.276,P < 0.01), while no significant correlation was found between hydrogen sulfide and left ventricular end-diastolic diameter , left atrial anterior posterior diameter , C-reaction protein etc. Conclusion Hydrogen sulfide productivity of mononuclear cells from AF patients is promoted.

Objective To investigate the effect of tripterygium on the grow th ,invasion and angiogenesis of melanoma A375 and its action mechanisms .Methods MTS was used to test the effect of tripterygium on proliferation of A375 melanoma;the nude mouse subcutaneous melanoma xenograft model was used to detect the effect of tripterygium on tumor growth ;the Transwell ex‐periment was used to determine the effect of tripterygium on invasion of A 375 melanoma;the tubule formation experiment was used to determine the effect of tripterygium on tumor angiogenesis ;ELISA was used to detect the influence of tripterygium on A 375 cel‐lular secretion factors ,such as VEGF ,bFGF ,TGF‐βand IL‐8 .Results The in vitro proliferation and in vivo growth of A375 mela‐noma cells after tripterygium treatment were significant inhibited ,the invasion ability of A375 melanoma cells was significant weak‐ened compared with the control group ;tripterygium could inhibit tumor cell‐induced vessel formation by down‐regulating the ex‐pression of VEGF ,bFGF and IL‐8 proteins ,but it had no influence on expression of TGF‐βprotein .Conclusion Tripterygium has anti‐growth and anti‐invasion effects on A375 melanoma ,its potential mechanisms may associated with the inhibition of tumor an‐giogenesis of A375 melanoma .

OBJECTIVE To analyze 28 cases in an outbreak of neonatal enterovirus nosocomial infection during summer of 2006.METHODS Demographic characteristics,clinical manifestations,laboratory data and outcome were analyzed to reveal the clinical severity.RESULTS The outbreak lasted more than one month and the nosocomial infection rate increased to 6.4%.There were 22 cases(78.6%) first presented with fever.Half of the patients were detected enterovirus from blood or cerebrospinal fluid by PCR.All of the 28 cases were diagnosed enterovirus infection based on the contact history,clinical signs and laboratory results.Among them,ten cases had viral meningitis.All patients discharged home after hospitalization with no sequelae.CONCLUSIONS Although this group of neonatal enterovirus infection developed viral meningitis,they had relatively mild illness with benign clinical course.Extreme vigilance is required in interrupting the spread of nosocomial enterovirus infections in neonatal units.This includes respect of strict hygiene measures and meticulous hand-washing.

Objective:To analyze the drug sensitivity of human lung adenocarcinoma stem cells (LASC) to cisplatin (DDP) and carboplatin (CBP). Methods:Human lung adenocarcinomaic cells SPC-A1,AG,and CPA-Y2 were treated with DDP and CBP. The cell viability of cells was detected by CCK-8 assay. The phenotypic characteristics of drug surviving cells(DSCs)were determined by immunofluorescence staining. The LASC population was then separated by magnetic-activated cell sorting method. The LASC in DSCs was traced by using green fluorescence protein (GFP). The drug sensitivity of DSCs to DDP and CBP was analyzed.Results:The LASC exhibited the phenotypes of bronchioalveolar stem cells (BASC, OCT4~+CCSP~+SP-C~+). After mixture of CD221~+LASC with CD221~-lung adenocarcinoma differentiated cells, the DSC population showed OCT4~+BASC phenotypes. These DSCs were significantly resistant to DDP and CBP.Conclusion:LASC has a high resistance to DDP and CBP. This may be the reason for tumor recurrence after chemotherapy.

Objective To study the effects of efflux pump inhibitors(CCCP and PAβN)on carbapenems in Pseudomonas aernginosa(P.aeruginosa)clinical isolates and investigate the association between the resistance to imipenem or meropenem and expression levels of efflux pumps of P.aeruginosa.Methods MICs of imipenem or meropenem combined with efflux pump inhibitors including carbonyl cyanide m-chlorophenylhydrazone(CCCP,107 strains)and Phe-Arg-β-naphthylamide(PAβN,71 strains)against imipenem-resistant strains were determined by agar dilution method,and changes of MICs were observed.For 32 strains with different resistant phenotypes to imipenem and meropenem,the mRNA expression levels of three efflux pump genes(mexA,mexD and mexF)were quantified by real time fluorescent quantitative PCR.Results The resistance rate of imipenem and meropenem didn't prove any significant difference in the presence of efflux pump inhibitors.The X2 value of imipenem combined with CCCP and PAβN were 0.338 and 0.086,respectively(P＞0.05),while that of meropenem combined with CCCP and PAβN were 1.065 and 1.458(P＞0.05).No significant in MICs of carbapenems were seen in over half of P. aeruginesa isolates. MICs of carbapenems was significantly downregulated for 4-fold or above in eight isolates. Overexpression of efflux pumps genes were present in 24 of 27 carbapenem-resistant isolates(88. 9% ). Efflux pumps genes including MexAB-OprM, MexCD-OprJ and MexEF-OprN were all overexpressed in 13 isolates,constituting 54. 2% of all carbapenem-resistant isolates. There were 3 isolates in which beth MexAB-OprM and MexCD-OprJ showed overexpression,constituting 12. 5%. Also,MexAB-OprM and MexEF-OprN overexpressed in 3 isolates. There were 2 isolates (8.3%) showing MexEF-OprN overexpression and MexAB-OprM alone. MexCD-OprJ didn't showed overexpression alone. Furthermore,the expression levels of efflux pumps genes mexA,mexD and mexF in isolates susceptible to both in imipenem and meropenem were 0. 48±0. 48,0. 48±0. 53 and 0. 30±0. 41,respectively,which were much lower than that in carbapenem-resistant ones (P＜0. 05 ). MexA gene was expressed at a higher level in meropenemresistant isolates than meropenem-susceptible ones (P＜0. 05 ). Conclusions When the concentration of CCCP and PAβN were 5 μg/ml and 20 μg/ml respectively,the efforts on the carhapenems resistance of P.aeruginosa were small Overexpression of MexAB-OprM might play an important role in meropenemresistance in P. aerugines. Overexpression of MexCD-OprJ and MexEF-OprN was associated with imipenemresistance. However,the relationship between them and meropenem-resistance need to be explored in the future.
