Objective To explore the effects ofCangfu Congxian Decoction on the mRNA expression of IGF-1R in human mural granulosa cells; To explore the action mechanism for the treatment of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) patients. Methods Totally 48 patients undergoing IVF-ET were randomly divided into treatment group and control group by random number table, 24 cases in each group. Patients in the control group accepted GnRHa/FSH/hCG stimulation, while the treatment group tookCangfu Congxian Decoction orally on the basic treatment of the control group. Serum E2, LH, and P concentration on HCG injection day, number of ovum, high quality embryo rate and clinical pregnancy rate were evaluated. The mRNA expression of IGF-1R on mural granulosa cells in the mature follicle was detected by real-time PCR.Results Compared with the control group, there was no significant difference in serum E2, LH, and P concentration on HCG injection day of treatment group (P>0.05), while the treatment group had higher high quality embryo rate than that of the control group (P<0.01). There was no significant difference in the number of ovum and pregnancy rate between the two groups (P>0.05). The mRNA expression of IGF-1R on granulosa cells in treatment group was significantly higher than the control group (P<0.01).Conclusion The mechanism ofCangfu Congxian Decoction for treating PCOS is up-regulating the mRNA expression of IGF-1R in mural granulosa cells and increasing high quality embryo rate.

The effects of insulin or insulin in combination with chemotherapeutic drugs on the proliferation and apoptosis of endometrial carcinoma cells were examined with an aim to determine the efficacy and safety of insulin in endometrial cancer therapy. Ishikawa and Hec-1A cells were treated with insulin and/or paclitaxel. Cell proliferation was assessed by MTT assay. Cell cycle and cell apoptosis were determined by flow cytometry (FCM). Survivin gene expression was detected by RT-PCR. Our results showed that in a certain range of working concentrations and action time, insulin could mildly augment cell proliferation and the percentage of S phase cells in endometrial cancer (Ishikawa/Hec-1A) cells. Insulin plus paclitaxel (combination group) could significantly inhibit cell proliferation (69.38%±2.32% vs 40.31%±4.52% with Ishikawa; 64.11%±6.33% vs 45.89%±3.27% with Hec-1A) and increase cell apoptosis compared with treatment with paclitaxel alone (paclitaxel group). Survivin gene expression was also significantly decreased in combination group as compared with paclitaxel group. We are led to conclude that insulin can mildly augment cell proliferation and present chemotherapy sensitivity in endometrial cancer cells. Insulin can be to used safely and efficiently in endometrial cancer therapy.

Journal of Practical Stomatology 2010;26(2):248-251
Objective:To assess the periodontal diseases as a possible risk factor for preterm and low birth weight. Methods: A population-based, cross-sectional study was carried out in Hubei. The samples were chosen randomly by the rule of admittance. Socio-demographic information relating to health and maternal habits was collected through a questionnaire. The clinical parameters were debris index-simplified (DI-S), sulcus bleeding index (SBI), probing pocket depth (PD) and clinical attachment loss (CAJ). The birth time and weight were recorded. The result was analyzed with chi-square test and logistic regression analysis. Results: The incidence of preterm low birth weight was 12.3%. The gingivitis and periodontitis were diagnosed in 86.6% and 64.2% of preterm low birth weight cases. The odds ratio of having gingivitis and preterm low birth weight was 1.30(95%confidence interval: 0.53-3.22). The odds ratio of having periodontitis and preterm low birth weight was 2.69(95%confidence interval: 1.37-5.27). Conclusion: The periodontal diseases of pregnancy can be regarded as an important risk factor for preterm low birth weight.
