Objective To observe the effects of endovascular radiation (ER) on the proliferation and apoptosis of medial smooth muscle cells (SMC) and to discuss the possible mechanisms of radiation in the prevention of vascular restenosis (RS) in rabbits after carotid endarterectomy (CEA).Methods Forty rabbits undergoing CEA were randomly divided into four groups (each group=10) and given a radiation dose of 0, 10, 20 and 40 Gy 32 P respectively. Rabbits were killed on the 3rd, 7th, 14th, 28th and 56th day after operation. The specimens were collected and histopathologic examinations were done. Results Proliferation apparently occurred in the intima and media of carotid the lumen became narrow in the control group on the 14 th, 28 th and 56 th day after operation. While in the radiation groups, proliferation was apparently suppressed and the lumen was much less narrowed ( P
4.Diagnosis and treatment of neonatal hypoglycemia
Journal of Clinical Pediatrics 2010;(3):212-214,219
Neonatal hypoglycemia is a common metabolic problem. The definition and clinical management of neonatal hypoglycemia remains controversial. The concerned reasons are mainly as follows:the course of a physiological decrease and recovery in the level of blood glucose is usually existed in newborn infants after birth;asymptomatic hypoglycemia(many newborn infants' blood glucose level is very low but without any clinical signs or symptoms);and the lack of the complete comprehension for the relationship between neonatal hypoglycemia and the long-term neurologic prognosis. The review describes the etiology, definition and clinical management of hypoglycemia in newborn infants.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the differential gene expression profiles in patients with blood stasis syndrome by oligonucleotide microarray technique. METHODS: Sixteen patients with blood stasis syndrome were divided into patients with coronary heart disease (CAD) (n=8) and non-CAD patients (n=8) by using coronary angiography. The sex- and age-matched eight healthy persons were enrolled as control group. Venous bloods were collected for extracting RNA. Test-3 chip was first employed to examine the quality of samples. Then the samples were hybridized with Affymetrix U133 Plus 2.0 array to compare the gene expression profiles among the three groups. Gene-array scanner and gene chip operating software were applied to screen hybridization signals and analyze gene expression respectively. Based on the comparison of the three groups of samples, the differential genes related with blood stasis syndrome were analyzed by Gene Ontology (GO) and pathway, and confirmed by real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). RESULTS: Forty-eight differential genes were found being associated with blood stasis syndrome, including 26 up-regulated genes and 22 down-regulated genes. Five of the forty-eight genes (10.4%) were related to inflammatory reaction and immune response through the GO analysis. In the pathway analysis, five of ten significant pathways were referred to inflammation and immune response. The results of real-time RT-PCR proved the accuracy of the gene chip. CONCLUSION: Inflammatory- and immune-related genes have a remarkable predominance in blood stasis syndrome gene expression profiles, which may explain the function of inflammation and immune response in the occurrence and development of blood stasis syndrome.

Chinese Circulation Journal 2015;(1):30-33
Objective:To investigate the clinical value of neck vascular ultrasound and homocysteine (Hcy) level in patients with cerebral infarction and carotid stenosis.
Methods: Our research included 2 groups. Cerebral infarction group, n=115 patient who were treated in our hospital from 2012-01 to 2013-12, and Control group, n=110 healthy subjects from physical check-up. Neck vascular ultrasound was conducted to classify the degree of carotid stenosis as ①no stenosis, ②mild degree, the stenosis rate≤29%, ③moderate degree, the stenosis rate at 30%~69%,③severe degree, the stenosis rate at 70%~99%,④complete occlusion. Carotid plaque formation and vascular intima-media thickness (IMT) were examined by neck ultrasound. Blood levels of Hcy and triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) were
measured in clinical laboratory.
Results: Compared with Control group, Cerebral infarction group had the higher rate of carotid stenosis 89.56%vs 10.91%, more plaque formation 73.91%vs 6.08%and increased IMT (1.85 ± 0.42) mm vs (0.75 ± 0.21) mm;higher blood levels of Hcy (42.32 ± 12.02) μmol/L vs (6.32 ± 2.45) μmol/L and higher rate of high blood Hcy syndrome 71.30%vs 3.63%;higher levels of TC (4.25 ± 1.12) mmol/L vs (1.63 ± 0.74) mmol/L and LDL-C (5.96 ± 1.36) mmol/L vs (2.32 ± 0.82) mmol/L, P<0.05. In Cerebral infarction group, the patients with complete carotid occlusion and severe stenosis had the higher rate of plaque formation and increased IMT;higher levels of Hcy and more high blood Hcy syndrome;higher levels of TG and LDL-C than the patients with mild and moderate carotid stenosis, P<0.05. Logistic analysis indicated that the levels of IMT, Hcy and LDL-C were the independent risk factors for cerebral infarction and carotid stenosis.
Conclusion: The patients with cerebral infarction and carotid stenosis have obviously increased blood level of Hcy. Hcy may predict various degree of carotid stenosis in relevant patients.
