Journal of Acupuncture and Tuina Science 2005;3(3):38-40
To observe the curative effect and the hemodynamic change of cervical vertigo treated by acupuncture, 66 patients were randomly divided into two groups: group A in which acupoints Yuzhen (BL 9) and Fengchi (GB 20) were used and Group B in which Cervical Jiaji points (C4-6) were used. Before and after treatment, the symptom of the cervical vertigo and the grade variety of function and the change of Color Doppler Flow Imaging (CDFI) of vertebral artery were observed. After treatment, the grade in two groups increased, there was a remarkable difference between two groups(P < 0.05); after treatment, the grade of vertigo degree increased, there was a remarkable difference between two groups(P < 0.05); needling Yuzhen (BL 9) and Fengchi (GB 20) can remarkably improve the symptom of cervical vertigo and vertebral artery blood flow rate, and the curative effect was superior to needling Jiaji points.

Objective To fabricate a novel polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)-chitosan(Cs)-collagen (Col) composite material and to confirm the feasibility of its application as a scaffold in tissue engineering. Methods PVA was blended with chitosan and collagen. The water content, swelling ratio, and tensile strength of the scaffolds were tested.SEM was used to observe the histological modality of the cross section. Results Scaffolds which al'e composite with different molecular weight and different amount of Cs and Collagen ale made, with water content ranging from 60.15% to 72.50% and swelling ratio being from 185.33% to 317.57%.The tensile strength of the composite material is 5.70MPa.The inner modality and structure of the scaffolds varied as the proportion of the chemical components changed. Conclusion PVA-Cs-Col scaffolds have high water content and proper swelling ratio and ale rich in porous structure. When the blending proportion is Cs:PVA:COI=30:15:0.20,the scaffold performs best, which shows to be a suitable structure for tissue engineering scaffold.

OBJECTIVE: To study the mechanism of herbal application along meridians for treatment and prevention of asthma by using serum pharmacological test to observe the effects of serum containing herbs against the constriction of tracheal spiral strips induced by acetylcholine chloride (Ach). METHODS: Guinea pigs were randomly divided into normal control group, normal saline (NS) application group, aminophylline application group, aminophylline injection group, 1-day herb application group, 7-day herb application group and 14-day herb application group. Asthma was induced by Hutson's method in guinea pigs except the normal control group. Guinea pigs in herb application groups were treated by external application of a compound herbal medicine 60 min once every day. Guinea pigs in NS application group were treated by external application of NS. Guinea pigs in the two aminophylline-treated groups were treated by external application and intraperitoneal injection of aminophylline at a dose of 400 mg/kg, respectively. The guinea pigs were killed and the sera were obtained after 1-day, 7-day and 14-day treatment in the three herb application groups, 7-day treatment in the NS application group, the aminophylline application and injection groups, respectively. Serum pharmacological method was used to do the experiment, the effects of different sera on the constriction of tracheal strips were observed, and the constriction rates were calculated. RESULT: The serum containing herbs had an effect in reducing the constriction of tracheal spiral strips induced by Ach, and the effect was similar to that of the serum obtained from the aminophylline injection group. The constriction rate of the tracheal spiral strips was decreased when herbal application treatment was prolonged within a period of time, and it became stable when herbal application treatment was between 7-14 days. The constriction of tracheal spiral strips induced by Ach could be reduced remarkably when it was previously treated by serum containing herbs. CONCLUSION: The anti-acetylcholine function with a time-dependent effect is one of the mechanisms of herbal application treatment along meridians for asthma, and furthermore, herbal application treatment along meridians might be useful for preventing asthma.

Objective To investigate the state of oxidative stress in the subjects with different levels of serum uric acid and to explore the cause of endothelial dysfunction induced by hyperuricemia. Methods Male subjects with normal serum uric acid or hyperuricemia were enrolled in this study. According to the levels of serum uric acid, all the partieipante were divided into five groups. Every group consisted of about fifty subjects. Plasma malondialdehyde (MDA), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase(GSH-Px) were determined. In the mean time plasma nitric oxide(NO) ,plasminogen activator inhihitor-1(PAI-1), endothelin-1 (ET-1) and other biochemical variables were also determined. Results When the serum uric acid level was more than 380 μmol/L, the levels of plasma MDA,SOD,GSH-Px, PAI-1 and ET-1 became higher, while the level NO became lower(P<0.05). However SOD and GSH-Px became much lower when the serum uric acid level was more than 420 μmol/L. Multivariate stepwise regressive analysis showed that PAI-1 was positively related to MDA,UA,HOMA-IR and TG, but negatively related to SOD and NO(t =-3.64 - 6. 08,P < 0.05). ET-1 was positively related to MDA, UA, HOMA-IR and negatively related to NO, GSH-Px and SOD (t = - 4.75 - 6.35,P < 0.05 ). Conclusions It is indicated that oxidative stress became much obvious when the serum uric acid level was more than 380 μmol/L . Oxidative stress, high serum uric acid level and insulin resistance may result in endothelial dysfunction.

Objective To analyze the immunization coverage of 23-valent pneumococcal polysac-charide vaccine(PPV23)in a large population in Guangzhou and to evaluate its safety by analyzing the ad-verse events following immunization(AEFI)reported to the passive surveillance system. Methods Immu-nization data of PPV23 in Guangzhou from 2010 to 2015 were collected from Information Management System of Biological Products and the Information System of Immune Programming of Guangzhou. AEFI reported to the AEFI Information System during 2010 to 2015 was collected for safety evaluation. The collected data were analyzed by using descriptive methodology. Results A total of 621 059 doses of PPV23 were pre-scribed in Guangzhou from 2010 to 2015. Most of the recipients were children younger than 10 years old,ac-counting for 79. 44% . Only 9. 38% of the subjects received PPV23 were older than 60 years. A total of 243 AEFI cases were reported at a rate of 39. 13 cases per 100 000 doses, among which 199 cases(32. 04 / 105 ) showed minor vaccine reactions,25 cases(4. 03 / 105 )occurred adverse events,16 cases(2. 58 / 105 )de-veloped coupled diseases and 3 cases(0. 48 / 105 )were classified as psychogenic reactions. No rare adverse reactions were observed. Conclusion The majority of people immunized with PPV23s in Guangzhou were children, while the immunization coverage among the elderly was relatively low. PPV23 was safe for vaccina-tion as the reported AEFI cases were similar to that of other vaccines.
