ObjectiveTo observe the effect ofZuogui Jiangtang Jieyu Formula on the expressions of glutamate, NR2A and NR2B in hippocampus of diabetic rats with depression; To explore the mechanism of protective effect. Methods Diabetes with depression rat models were established and then were randomly divided into the model group, positive medicine group, high-, medium- and low-doseZuogui Jiangtang Jieyu Formula groups. Normal rats acted as normal group, 16 rats per group. After 28 days of administration, Open-field test was used to detect the behavior of the rats;glutamate content of hippocampus was detected by ELISA;the expressions of NR2A and NR2B in rat hippocampus were detected by immunofluorescence. Results Compared with normal group, automatic activity times of rats in model group decreased significantly (P<0.01);both glutamate content (P<0.01) and expressions of NR2A, NR2B (P<0.01) increased significantly. Compared with the model group, automatic activity times of rats in positive medicine group and high-doseZuogui Jiangtang Jieyu Formula group significantly increased (P<0.01);glutamate content dropped (P<0.01);expressions of NR2A and NR2B decreased (P<0.05).ConclusionZuogui Jiangtang Jieyu Formula can improve depressive behavior of diabetic rats with depression, which may be related to the regulation of glutamate content and expressions of NR2A and NR2B in hippocampus.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the treatment of chyle leak following radical resection for colorectal cancer.
METHODSThe incidence of chyle leak was compared between the different surgical approaches (open vs. laparoscopic) as well as different tumor locations (right, left colon or rectum) in 1259 patients undergoing radical resection for colorectal cancer.
RESULTSOverall incidence of chyle leak was 3.6% (46/1259) after surgery. Forty-five patients were successfully managed by conservative treatment and one patient required re-operation. No patients died. The incidence of chyle leak was not significantly different between the open (3.2%, 18/570) and laparoscopic (4.1%, 28/689) groups (P>0.05). However, right colectomy was associated with a significantly higher rate of chyle leak (9.6%, 16/167) as compared to left colectomy(2.6%, 7/268) and anterior resection (2.8%, 23/824) (P<0.05).
CONCLUSIONSConservative treatment is effective in early stage of chyle leak after radical resection for colorectal cancer. Right colectomy is associated with higher risk for chyle leak.

Objective A resistin binding peptide (RBP) was selected by phage display in our previous work. Studies had shown that RBP could antagonize the role of resistin on the lipid metabolism and endocrine function of adipose tissue, but whether RBP affects the insulin secretion of pancreatic cells is still unknown. The aim of this study is to assess the effect of RBP on basal insulin secretion in RINm5F insulinoma cells. Methods The cell viability was measured by 3-[4,5-dimethyhhiazol-2-yl]-2,5-diphenyltetra-zolium bromide (MTT) cytotoxicity assay. The supernatants were assayed for insulin content by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Reverse transcriptase-PCR assay and Western blotting were used to determine the expression of glucose transporter 2 (GLUT2) involved in insulin secretion. Cytosolic Ca2+, the trigger of insulin exocytosis, was analyzed with the fluorescent probe FURA-3/AM. Results RBP did no effect on the cell viability with a concentration of 10-8-10-12mol/L of 2 hours intervention. But it stimulated basal insulin secretion of RINm5F cells, accompanied by up-regulated increased expression of GLUT2 and elevated concentration of cytosolic Ca2+. Conclusion RBP could stimulate basal insulin secretion without affecting the cell viability.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the incidence, risk factors and preventative methods associated with chyle leak following complete mesocolic excision(CME) for colon cancer.
METHODSClinical data of 592 patients with colon cancer undergoing CME in the department of Colorectal Surgery in the Fujian Medical University Union Hospital from September 2000 to September 2011 were analyzed retrospectively.
RESULTSChyle leak occurred in 46 patients(7.7%). The incidence of postoperative chyle leak following right CME hemicolectomy was 13.3%(30/226), significantly higher than that after left CME hemicolectomy (4.4%). On univariate analysis, chyle leak following CME was associated with tumor size(P<0.05), tumor location(P<0.01), and lymph nodes harvested(P<0.01). Multivariate logistic regression revealed that tumor location and lymph nodes harvested were independent risk factors associated with chyle leak following CME(P<0.05).
CONCLUSIONSTumor location and lymph nodes harvested are independent risk factors for chyle leak following complete mesocolic excision for colon cancer. When the drainage output suddenly increases after oral intake resumption, the chyle test of ascitic fluid should be performed for early diagnosis and prompt management.

OBJECTIVETo examine HIV prevalence and its associated factors among men who have sex with men (MSM) and provide the evidence for the intervention program among MSM.
METHODSA face-to-face questionnaire interview was conducted among MSM recruited by snowball sampling method in Yuzhong, Jiulongpo and Shapingba district of Chongqing from July to September, 2007. Totally, 1044 MSM were recruited. Associated factors with HIV prevalence were analyzed using forward stepwise logistic regression that HIV status was the dependent variable and demographics, AIDS awareness, sexual behaviors and the status of the intervention were independent variables.
RESULTSA total of 1044 MSM were surveyed. The rate of AIDS awareness was 89.5% among MSM. The rate of unprotected anal sex during the past 6 months was 63.8%. The prevalence of HIV and syphilis was 8.5% (89/1044) and 12.5% (131/1044) respectively. The multivariate analysis identified that the older MSM (OR = 1.69, 95% CI: 1.13 - 2.52), junior school education (OR = 1.89, 95% CI: 1.17 - 3.05), younger than 18 years old of the first sex (OR = 3.11, 95% CI: 1.20 - 8.02), more than 10 sexual partners (OR = 2.24, 95% CI: 1.24 - 4.02), the history of having sex with women (OR = 2.40, 95% CI: 1.64 - 3.51) and syphilis infection (OR = 4.52, 95% CI: 2.77 - 7.38) were independent risk factors associated with HIV infection.
CONCLUSIONThe rate of unprotected anal sex was high, so were the prevalence of HIV and syphilis among MSM. It should be urgent to conduct the intervention to stop AIDS rapid transmission among MSM.
