AIM: To investigate the changes of neuronal glutamate transporter (EAAC1) at different ischemic times in the rat hippocampus in early stage. METHODS: Brain microinjection of EAAC1 antisense oligodeoxyneucleotide (EAAC1 antisense) was adopted and focal transient ischemia was produced by the filament method of middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO). Western blotting and TTC staining analysis were adopted for observing EAAC1 expression and infarction volume in ischemic region .The expression of EAAC1 mRNA and protein at different ischemic times in the rat ischemic hippocampus was assessed by RT-PCR and Western blotting analysis. RESULTS: Compared with EAAC1 sense group, the volume of brain ischemic infarction [(105.67?8.70) mm~3] was reduced after brain microinjection of EAAC1 antisense. Compared with the sham-operated control, EAAC1 mRNA was significantly higher at 6 h and at (24 h) in the hippocampal regions during ischemia, while protein expression was higher at 24 h only. EAAC1 mRNA and protein expression were unchanged at other ischemic times. CONCLUSION: EAAC1 is associated with ischemic injury and its expression is increased in the hippocampal regions after focal cerebral ischemia.

Topographical Projections of cingulate cortex to the central lateral nucleus (CL) of thalamus in the cat was observed by means of retrograte HRP technique. After injection of HRP into rostral part of the CL, labeled cells were mainly distributed in ipsilateral anterior cingulate cortex. A few cells were also labeled in the corresponding location of the contralateral cingulate cortex. Following injections of HRP into caudal part of CL, the HRP-positive neurons were found in both anterior and posterior parts of the cingulate cortex ipsilaterally, the labeled cells were considerable sparser than in rostral injection cases. Labeled cell in all cases were located in inferior part of lamina Ⅴ and lamina Ⅵ. They are small to middle sized pyramidal neurons. These results suggest that the cingulate- CL projection are topographically organized.

Objective To investigate the effect of intralesional lauromacrogol therapy on infantile hemangioma.Methods 30 cases all received intralesional injection of lauromacrogol.The changes of tumor size,texture and color were monitored and recorded.The adverse effects after medication were observed and managed accordingly.The adverse effects after medication were observed.The times of treatment were determined according to degree of reduction of tumor volume.To assess the efficacy,a 4 scales system was adopted.Results All patients had completed the treatment and followup.The overall response was scale Ⅰ in 2 cases (6.7 ％),scale Ⅱ efficacy in 4 patients (13.3 ％),scale Ⅲ efficacy in 5 cases (16.7 ％) and scale Ⅳ in 19 cases (63.3 ％).The smaller the tumor,the fewer the times of treatment,and the better the results.The effects of treatment were better if patient could be treated by intralesional lauromacrogol therapy in early stage.No severe adverse effects were observed during 6 months of follow-up.Conclusions Intralesional injection of lauromacrogol sclerotherapy is a safe and effective way to treat infantile hemangioma.

Inhaled nitric oxide has been identified as a potent method for curing acute respiratory distress syndrome,high brood pressure and some illnesses related to the lung,but the high cost limits its application.The present study investigates the reason of the high cost of inhaled nitric oxide in the current application,and gives some advices on solving them by using pulsed arc discharge in clean air,reducing the price of nitrogen oxides analyzer and being compatible with the present ventilators.The perspective of inhaled nitric oxide was viewed as well.

Objective To study the identification of rare Nocardiaotitidiscaviarum and its drug sensitivity .Methods Morpho-logical ,physiological and biochemical phenotype identification methods combined with 16S rRNA sequence analysis were employed to identified the bacteria strains .Broth method was used to detect their drug sensitivity .Results The clinically isolated Nocardia strain was identified as Nocardiaotitidiscaviarum which was resistant to piperacillin ,erythromycin ,ceftazidime ,cefoperazone ,gen-tamicin ,cefoxitin ,piperacillin/tazobactam ,and was sensitive to vancomycin ,levofloxacin ,imipenem ,etimicin ,ciprofloxacin ,amika-cin ,sulfamethoxazole .Conclusion 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis can be used to identify Nocardia otitidiscaviarum ,and sulfa drugs shows good therapeutic effect .

AIM: To explore the effect of brain ischemia injury on cell proliferation and nestin expression in cortex and subependymal zone (SEZ). METHODS: Using a local brain ischemia model(MCAO), BrdU positive cells of cortex and subependymal zone (SEZ), also nestin positive cells, were observed by immunohistochemistry. RESULTS: BrdU and nestin positive cells in SEZ of MCAO rats were obviously increased. In cortex, only nestin positive cells were observed. CONCLUSION: Neural stem cells in SEZ and cortex were activated after brain ischemia, it may be related with neural recovery after brain ischemia injury.

Objective To compare the therapeutic efficacy between medicinal cupping and collateral-pricking bloodletting therapy in treating lumbar intervertebral disc herniation (LIDH) and non-specific low back pain.Method Sixty LIDH patients were randomized into treatment group 1 and control group 1, 30 cases in each group. Sixty non-specific low back pain patients were randomized into treatment group 2 and control group 2, 30 cases in each group. Treatment group 1 and 2 were intervened by medicinal cupping, while control group 1 and 2 were by collateral-pricking bloodletting. The Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) and Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) were observed before and after intervention.Result The VAS and ODI scores were significantly changed after intervention in treatment group 1, treatment group 2, and control group 2 (P<0.05). The VAS score was significantly changed after intervention in control group 1 (P<0.05); the ODI score didn’t show significant change after intervention in control group 1 (P>0.05). After treatment, there was a significant difference in comparing the ODI score between control group 1 and control group 2 (P<0.05).Conclusion Medicinal cupping and collateral-pricking bloodletting are both effective in treating chronic low back pain, and medicinal cupping has its advantage in improving ODI compared to the bloodletting therapy.

Objective To determine the diagnostic value of SPECT in lower digestive tract hemorrhage (LDTH). Methods Of the 24 LDTH cases,16 were tested by gastric mucosa imaging ,4 by 99m Tc PHA imaging,and the other 4 by 99m Tc RBC imaging.All the patients' diagnosis were confirmed by surgery and pathology. Results The sensitivity and the specificity of the gastric mucosa imaging were 100%(16/16) and 93.7%(15/16),respectively. The sensitivity of the 99m Tc PHA imaging and the 99m Tc RBC imaging was 75.0%(3/4) and 75.0 %(3/4), respectively, but had no specificity. Conclusions SPECT has very high sensitivity and specificity in the diagnosis of Meckel's diverticulum. 99m Tc PHA imaging and 99m Tc RBC imaging may help to determine the position of bleeding in unkown causes of LDTH.

Objective: To investigate the effect of muscone on infarction volume and neuronal glutamate transporter EAAC1 mRNA expression in rats. Methods: Rats were divided randomly, focal ischemic models of middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) were achieved by inserting nylon surgical thread through the internal carotid artery(ICA) into the anterior cerebral artery(ACA). The rats were sacrificed, the brain was stained by TTC and the area of infarcton was measured. The expression of EAACl mRNA in the hippocampal regions was assessed by RT PCR. Results: Muscone could remarkably reduce tbe infarction volume and expression of EAAC1 mRNA. Conclusion: Muscone plays a significant role in against local cerebral ischemia, the mechanism may be related to reducing EEACl mRNA expression.
