Objective To explore the role of p38MAPK and TGF?2 in the development of diabetic retinopathy. Methods Fifteen Hamsters were induced into diabetic models by intraperitoneal injection of Streptozotocin(40 mg/kg once a day) for 3 d and 13 Hamsters were successfully established, whose blood glucose was over 13.5 mmol/L.Ten Hamsters as controls were intraperitoneally injected of physical saline of the same volume. At 16th week after induction, the total RNA of retina from all sacrificed Hamsters was collected. The mRNA expressions of p38MAPK,TGF?2 in retina were detected by semi-quantitative RT-PCR and their protein levels by Western blotting. Results The mRNA expressions of p38MAPK,TGF?2 in retina were of high tendency and their protein levels increased. Conclusion p38MAPK signal pathway may involve in the pathogenesis of diabetic retinopathy.

Objective To evaluate the clinical outcome of one-level posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PLIF) performed with microendoscopic approach. Methods A consecutive series of 56 patients who under went one-level PLIF procedure(24 cases performed with microendoseopic approach and 32 cases with tradition- al open approach)were studied from January 2005 to May 2006.The following data were compared between 2 groups with 12 to 27 months follow-up:estimated blood loss, postoperative drainage, transfusion needs,surgi- cal time, length of hospital stay, postoperative back pain by visual analogue scale, complications, and the clinical and radiographic results. Results The microendoscopic approach was found to have a significantly less blood loss, less postoperative drainage, less needs of transfusion, less postoperative back pain, shorter re- covery time and shorter length of hospital stay. However, the microendoscopic approach needed significantly longer surgical time. There was no significant difference between 2 groups in the aspects of the complications and the clinical and radiographic results. Conclusion The one-level PLIF performed with microendoscopic approach minimize estimated blood loss, length of hospital stay, postoperative back pain.It also shows the ex- cellent surgical efficacy of the microendoscopic approach for suitable patients.

The human canstatin cDNA was amplified by RT-PCR and then directionally cloned into pU? expression vector. The recombinant pU?-Can vector was connected with the screening marker (bar box), to construct a eukaryotic expression vector called pU?-Can-Bar. This expression vector was introduced into the D.salina by glass beads method. The screening culture of transformants of D.salina was performed in solid media containing 5 ?g/ml PPT, and the analyses of transformants were carried out through PCR and Southern blot. PCR results revealed that specific 700 bp products were detected in the different transformants of D.salina but not in negative control. Southern blot analysis further demonstrated that human canstatin gene was integrated into the D.salina genome. Moreover, the results of genetic stability analyses of transformants demonstrated that canstatin gene was stably inherited in the D.salina transformants. The successful preparation of the D.salina transformants will provide the experimentation evidence for producing canstatin protein cosmically by using the D.salina bioreactor and give a better prophase work basis for clinic application of canstatin protein early.

The identity of higher-order neurons and circuits playing an associative role to control renal function is notwell understood. We identified specific neural populations of rostral elements of brain regions that project multisynaptically to the kidneys in 3~ days after injecting a retrograde tracer pseudorabies virus (PRV)-614 into kidney of 13 adult male C57BL/6J strain mice.PRV-614 infected neurons were detected in a number of mesencephalic (e.g.central amygdala nucleus),telencephalic regions and motor cortex. These divisions included the preoptic area (POA),dorsomedial hypothalamus (DMH),lateral hypothalamus, arcuate nucleus (Arc),suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN),periventricular hypothalamus (PeH),and rostral and caudal subdivision of the paraventricular nucleus of the hypothalamus (PVN).PRV-614/Tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) double-labeled cells were found within DMH,Arc,SCN,PeH,PVN,the anterodorsal and medial POA.A subset of neurons in PVN that participated in regulating sympathetic outflow to kidney was catecholaminergic or serotonergic.PRV-614 infected neurons within the PVN also contained arginine vasopressin or oxytocin. These data demonstrate the rostral elements of brain innervate the kidney by the neuroanatomical circuitry.

Purpose To analyze the gait of patients following reconstruction of posterior cruciate ligament(PCL) and posterolateral corner(PLC).Methods Between March 2007 and April 2008,16 patients with combined PCL and PLC injuries-deficient knee underwent the reconstruction with allograft.Dial test were performed before surgery, and gait analysis and dial test were assessed 1 year after reconstruction.Sixteen healthy volunteers were used as controls. Results There are no differences in the time-distance factors and kinematics between patients and controls(P>0.05).The torque of knee extension revealed significant difference between patients and controls(P<0.01).Mean abtorsion angle of the patients increased 16.5°±6.2° before surgery;whereas the angle increased-4.4°±7.8° 1 year after surgery(P<0.01).The maximal mean abtorsion angnlation from gait analysis was 14.1°±15.7° and from dial test was 29.7°±1 5.2°,respectively.There was a strong linear correlation(r=0.9671,P<0.05)between the outcomes from dial test and gait analysis. Conclusion After reconstruction of the PCL and PLC,the gait of patients became almost normal 1 year after operation, except the torque of knee extension.

Objective To observe the effects of Suprasorb G and Suprasorb H on peripheral phlebitis above stage Ⅱ. Methods 64 patients with peripheral phlebitis above Stage Ⅱ were randomly divided into the observation group (36 patients) and the control group (28 patients). The observation group used Suprasorb G, and the control group used Suprasorb H. All cases were tested with the change of stage of peripheral phlebitis, the pain score, the red swelling of the skin and the palpable vascular cord. Results After treatment with Suprasorb H or Suprasorb G, there were significant differences in the change of stage of peripheral phlebitis, red swelling of the skin, pain score and the change of palpable vascular cord by self-contrast before and after treatment. Significant differences existed in change of stage of peripheral phlebitis, and red swelling of the skin and the change of palpable vascular cord at 48 and 72 hours, but no change was seen in pain score between 2 groups. Conclusions Suprasorb G and Suprasorb H beth show good effect in treatment of peripheral phlebitis, but Suprasorb G is better than Suprasorb H in improving the stage of peripheral phlebitis, also in reducing the area of red swelling of the skin and the palpable vascular cord with passage of time. But there is no difference in releasing of pain caused by peripheral phlebitis between them.
