Objective To study the protective function of resveratrol on radiation-induced small intestine injury and lethal effect in mice.Methods Mice were randomly divided into three groups:irradiation (IR) control,IR only,and IR + resveratrol.15 mice each group were irradiated on abdomen with 7.2 Gy γ-rays for cell lethal assay and 8 mice each group were irradiated with 6.5 Gy for small intestine injury assay.For the IR + resveratrol group,the mouse was given resveratrol by intragastric administration 24 h before irradiation and then was fed with resveratrol daily for 5 days.The control and IR alone groups were fed with placebo.After 30 days of IR,mouse survival rate was detected.For small intestine injury experiments,24 h after IR,the mice were terminated and the small intestines were treated with HE and immunohistochemical staining.Results Compared with the irradiation group,resveratrol increased mouse survival by 33.3％,decreased apoptosis in intestinal crypt cells (t =17.35,P ＜ 0.05),and increased Ki67 expression (t =13.62,P ＜ 0.05).Conclusion Resveratrol could protect small intestine injury from ionizing irradiation.

Objective:To evaluate the efficacy of occlusal rehabilitation in old patients with decreased vertical dimensions caused by serious attrition.Methods:Sixty-five patients with decreased vertical dimension caused by serious attrition were divided into 3 groups according to the defect of dentition and/or TMD.Group A included 42 patients with serious attrition and defection of dentition.Group B had 15 patients with heavy tooth wear,defection of dentition and TMD.Group C included 8 patients with serious attrition and functional TMD.All patients were conducted occlusal rehabilitation at increased vertical dimensions in normal intercuspital position(ICP) by removable denture with occlusal pad and removable occlusal splints.The time of follow-up visit of these patients ranged from 1.5 months to 9 years. Results:The masticatory efficacy of the patients was obviously improved,and all the symptoms of TMD were relieved.Furthermore,the symptoms of TMD were not observed after the treatment in patients without TMD.Conclusion:The results achieved by removable occlusal rehabilitation to aged people with serious attrition and decreased vertical dimension are satisfactory,and suggest that the occlusal rehabilitation is necessary for them.Furthermore,the removable occlusal rehabilitation can be acted as a reference and transition to permanent fixed occlusal rehabilitation.

Tissue engineering is a kind of cross subject,which develops on the basis of cell biology,molecular biology,bio-material science and clinical medicine.The aim of tissue engineering is to restore and improve the function of scathing tissue using bio-substituent.The basis of tissue engineering is to study and develop the frame materials of bio-substituent.Besides the physical and chemical properties satisfying the growth and reproduction of the seed cell,the materials should hold the following properties,including tissue compatibility,bio-degradability,degradable modulability,nontoxicity,easy to mold.The materials studied extensively are PLA and PGA.The polylacticacids frame materials have been used to be the frame materials of bone,cartilage gristle,blood vessel,nerve and skin.The preparation of polylacticacids and its improvement are reviewed in this article.The application development to tissue engineering is also presented.

Objective To investigate MELD and Child-Pugh in the patients with decompensated liver cirrhosis.Methods 41 cases of death and 71 survivors were graded with MELD and Child-Pugh and compared.Results The deaths' MELD and Child-Pugh score was (17.93?8.22 )and (10.07?1.84),the survivors' was (11.18?6.54 ) and (8.04?2.09)(P=0.000).Among the deaths and survivors,MELD≤9 was 14.63% and 42.25%(P =0.003),MELD 20-29 was 26.83% and 8.45%(P=0.009),Child A was 21.95% and 56.34%(P=0.000),Child C was 29.27% and 5.63%(P=0.001).Conclusion The deaths' MELD and Child-Pugh score is higher than the survivors'.The MELD score can act as a disease severity and prognosis index for patients with decompensated liver cirrhosis.

Alveolar soft part sarcoma (ASPS) is a rare soft tissue sarcomas, this sarcoma occurs rarely in the larynx. Herein, we describe an unusual case of ASPS occurring in the larynx. The patient was a 46-year-old woman who presented with a more than 2-year history of right pyriform fossa mass and progressive hoarseness for three months. The endoscopic examination of the larynx revealed a mass in the right pyriform fossa with smooth surface and well-defined margin. Computed tomography demonstrated a heterogeneous tumor in the right pyriform fossa, and involving the paralaryngeal space, measuring approximately 2.1 cm x 1.7 cm x 2.6 cm, which was resected via lateral neck approach. Histopathology and immunohistochemistry revealed an ASPS. To ours knowledge, this is the first reported case of ASPS arising in pyriform fossa.

Objective To explore the value of echocardiography in patients with aortic stenosis who underwent transapical aortic valve implantation (TAAVI).Methods Fifteen high-risk patients with severe aortic stenosis were chosen in the present study,all of which received TAAVI in Fuwai Hospital Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences from June 2014 to March 2015.The left ventricular end-diastolic diameter (LVEDD),left atrial diameter (LAD),left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF),effective orifice area (EOA),mean aortic pressure gradient (MPG),as well as artificial valve function of patients were measured at different time points (before operation,discharge,1 month and 3-6 months after operation) by echocardiography.The data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA analysis with SPSS software,and multiple comparisons were done using LSD student t test.Results The data from preoperative echocardiography indicated severe aortic stenosis in the 15 patients,with the average level of EOA as (0.55± 0.28) cm2 and MPG as (58.93± 14.96) mmHg (1 mmHg=0.133 kPa).Moderate paravalvular aortic regurgitation was observed in one patients,who was then received a second implantation.There was no significant difference between LVEDD,LAD,and LVEF when the patients were at discharge,1 month and 3-6 months after operation.The prosthetic valves were stable and conformed by echocardiography,while paravalvular leak regurgitation (1-2 mm) was observed in 7 patients.One patient died of other reasons.Compared with preoperative data,the EOA increased while MPG decreased when the patients were at discharge,1 month and 3-6 month after operation (t=6.619,7.357,6.401,all P ＜ 0.001;t=9.523,9.687,5.932,all P ＜ 0.001).Conclusion With careful patient screening and selection,TAAVI can be an effective treatment for high-risk severe aortic stenosis patients,in which echocardiography plays an important role during the surgery and follow up.

Objective To evaluate the clinical application value of epicardial transesophageal echocardiography (ETE) in cardiac surgeries. Methods Using the transesophageal multi-plane ultrasonic probe of GE company, ETE were performed for a total of 53 patients undergoing cardiac surgeries with extracorporeal circulation and heart re-beat, evaluating valvular function, left ventricular systolic function and residual shunts. Results Qualiifed ETE images were obtained in all of the 53 cases without complications of infection, bleeding and serious arrhythmia. Intraoperative regional left ventricular systolic dysfunction happened in 5 cases and was promptly handled. Residual mitral regurgitation after valvular replacement was found in one case, which was reduced by valvuloplasty. One case showed moderate tricuspid regurgitation and another two cases indicated residual shunt. All the problems in the above cases were corrected in immediate surgeries. Moreover, the pressure gradient of one hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathic patient fell significantly to 8 mmHg after successful myectomy (the blood flow velocity fell from 3.2 m/s to 1.4 m/s). Conclusion Epicardial transesophageal echocardiogramphic examination is easy to handle and useful in monitoring abnormalities in cardiac surgery by providing hemodynamic and anatomic information.
