Chinese Journal of Experimental Ophthalmology 2011;29(10):931-935
Background Zero spherical aberration intraocular lenses(IOL)is designed to prevent the addition of positive spherical aberration after surgery.Research indicated that some positive spherical aberration can provide better depth distance of focus and pseudoaccommodation. Objective The present study was to compare the visual function and wavefront aberrations in pseudophakic eyes with zero spherical aberration IOL and spherical IOL.Methods A prespective case-controlled study was designed.Eighty eyes of 52 patients with age-related cataract were enrolled and divided into two matched groups based on random number table method. The regular phacoemulsification was performed on the eyes, and a zero spherical aberration IOL(Akreos AO)was implanted in the test group and a spherical IOL was used in the control group(Akreos Adapt IOL).The corrected distance visual acuity(CDVA),contrast sensitivity, depth of focus and wavefront aberrations were recorded and compared at 3 months after cataract surgery between these two groups. The trail was approved by the Ethic Committee of Eye Hospital of Wenzhou Medical College, and written informed consent was obtained from each patient prior to the program. Results The clinical demography from the two groups was matched(P > 0.05).There were no significant difference in the CDVA (LogM AR)(-0.03 ±0.08 versus-0.02+0.10)(t =-0.50,P =0.61)and in depth of focus(3.48± 1.07 DS versus 3.20±0.77 DS)(t =1.15,P=0.25)between the zero spherical aberration IOL group and the spherical IOL group. The contrast sensitivities under the mesopic condition at 12.0 c/d and mesopic with glare at 3.0,6.0,18.0 c/d were 12.42 ± 13.16,42.58 ±24.96,30.19± 25.64 and 3.03 ± 5.49 in the zero spherical aberration IOL group, and those in the spherical IOL group were 5.59 ± 8.11,28.74 ± 18.69,17.07 ± 19.35 and 0.22 ± 1.15 without significant differences between these two groups(P<0.05).Under the 5.0 mm pupil analyzing zone, the spherical aberration in zero spherical aberration IOL group was(0.13 ±0.07)μm,showing a significant reduction in comparison with spherical IOL group(0.21 + 0.07 μm)(P < 0.05).No evidently differences were found in total high-order aberration, coma aberration and trefoil aberration(P>0.05),but the sphere aberration was considerably lower in the zero spherical aberration IOL group compared with spherical IOL group(t=-4.19,P=0.00).Conclusions The visual quality of the eyes implanted zero spherical aberration IOL is significantly better than ones implanted with spherical IOL.

Objective To evaluate the etiologies of children with gastrointestinal bleeding(GIB), and the relationship between the pathological findings and clinical. Methods Gastroscopy or proctoscope was performed in 153 children with GIB. Pathological studies and tests as for helicobactor pylori (Hp) were undertaken. Results Among 153 children,140 cases(91.5 %) had definite diagnosis, including 74 children with upper gastrointestinal bleeding(UGIB) and 66 cases with lower gastrointestinal bleeding(LGIB). Gastric pathologic study was conducted in 56 cases. All patients had chronic superficial gastritis(CSFG). Hp test was positive in 33 patients. There was significant difference in the positive rate of Hp test between patients with gastritis or duodenitis and those with ulcers (P

Objective To investigate the effects of exercise training(ET)on the expression of glucogen synthase kinase 3 bate(GSK 3?)in the adipose tissues of insulin resistant(IR)rats on a high fat diet(HFD). Methods Thirty male Wistar rats were randomly divided into a control group(n=10)and a model group(M group,n=20).Insulin resistance was established by feeding a HFD to the M group for 4 w,while rats in the control group were fed a normal diet. The IR rats were then randomly divided into two subgroups:an IR group and an ET group. All rats in the IR and ET groups were fed a HFD,but ET was administrated to the ET group for 6w.The expres- sion of GSK 3?protein in the rats'epididymis adipose tissue was detected using Western blotting, and body weight (BW),the concentrations of serum triglyceride and cholesterol(TG and TC),fasting plasma glucose(FPG)and serum insulin(FINS),as well as insulin sensitivity index(ISI)were regularly detected. Results Compared with the con- trol group,BW and the concentrations of serum TG and TC,FPG and FINS in the model group were significantly in- creased(P<0.05),while ISI was decreased(P<0.01).Compared with the control group, there was no difference in GSK 3 protein expression in the ET group, but the expression of GSK 3?protein in the ET group was obviously de- creased in comparison with that in the IR group(P<0.05).Conclusion ET can ameliorate IR by decreasing GSK 3?protein expression in adipose tissues and enhancing the ingestion of glucose and the synthesis of glycogen.

Objective Total 21 pulmonary artery sling( PA sling)combined with tracheal stenosis children who received treatment in our hospital were reviewed. The feasibility of treatment strategy including left pulmonary artery( LPA)re-implantation without tracheoplasty was discussed in this study. Methods From April 2009 to November 2015,a total of 21 pediatric patients received surgical treatment due to PA sling with tracheal stenosis. Six patients received LPA re-implantation and trachea intervention simultaneously. The other 15 patients received LPA re-implantation alone to relieve the trachea compression without tracheoplasty. The postoperative strategy including early extubation and CPAP ventilation was employed in PICU. Results A total of 21 PA sling with tracheal stenosis children who underwent surgical treatment in our hospital were recruited. There were 9 females and 12 males. Ages of these children were from 1 months to 10 years old,and body weights were from 2. 9 kg to 25. 0 kg. Five patients needed mechanical ventilation for severe respiratory symptoms preoperatively. Six patients received LPA re-implantation and tracheal interven-tion simultaneously. Among them,3 patients received slide tracheoplasty, and one was discharged after recov-ery. The remaining 3 patients received tracheal stent implantation, but finally died. The survival rate was 16. 7% in these patients. Fifteen patients received LPA re-implantation alone, and slide tracheoplasty was per-formed in 2 patients for extubation failure who finally died of air leakage. The survival rate of 15 patients who received LPA re-implantation alone was 86. 7%. Conclusion The strategy in LPA re-implantation alone to relieve the trachea compression without tracheoplasty and early extubation and CPAP ventilation postoperative may be an ideal treatment for the pediatric patients with PLA sling combined with tracheal stenosis.

Aim To investigate the curative effects of resveratrol on OVA induced allergic rhinitis in mice and the underlying immune mechanisms. Methods Balb/c mice (female, 6 weeks) were divided randomly into normal control ( NC) group, allergic rhinitis (AR) group, high dose resveratrol treatment group (RH), low dose resveratrol treatment group (RL), and dexamethasone treatment group ( Dex). RL, RH and Dex group were oral administered with resveratrol 30 mg • kg"1, resveratrol 100 mg • kg"1 and dexamethasone 10 mg • kg"1, respectively. After the treat-ment , the sneezing and nasal rubbing behaviors of mice in all the group were recorded and HE was performed to assess the inflammatory cell infiltration in nasal tissues. The sera levels of allergic cytokines were determined with ELISA assay. The percentage of CD4+ GA- TA3 + T cells in spleen of each group was further recorded by flow cytometry. Results Compared with AR group, treatment with resveratrol (100 mg - kg"1) reduced the sneezing and nasal rubbing behaviors signifi-cantly and improved inflammatory cell infiltration in nasal tissues. The up-regulated sera levels of IL-4, IL- 13 and OVA-sIgE in AR group were reversed by RH, and ratios CD4+ GATA3 + Th2 cells in spleen of RH were also down-regulated parallelly. Conclusions RH treatment could improve the allergic related symptoms of OVA-induced allergic rhinitis, which is associated with down-regulated sera levels of IL-4, IL-13 and OVA-sIgE and ratios of CD4+ GATA3 + Th2 cells in spleen of mouse model.

Neuroscience Bulletin 2006;22(2):118-123
Neurodegenerative diseases are characterized by the accumulation of intracellular or extracellular protein aggregates that result from conformational changes in proteins. These diseases may result from an imbalance between the production of misfolded proteins and normal chaperone capacity. Molecular chaperones provide a first line of defence against misfolded, aggregation-prone proteins and are, therefore, promising therapeutic targets for neurodegenerative diseases.
