This study aims to investigate the relationship between odor and contents of the chemical compounds in Lonicera japonica, including chlorogenic acid, galuteolin and polyphenols. High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was applied to determine the contents of chlorogenic acid and galuteolin in L. japonica. The ponptent of polyphenols was determined by UV-Vis Spectrophotometry. Electronic nose was used to extract and measure the odor of L. japonica. Then SPSS 17.0 software was employed for data processing. There is a significant positive correlation between the comprehensive index value of aroma and the contents of chlorogenic acid and polyphenols. The regression equations have been established. However, the relationship between the comprehensive index value and the content of galuteolin is not obvious. This is proof that the odor of L. japonica has close connection with the chemical compounds. Therefore, this research offered a new method for initially determine or predict the content of the chemical composition in L. japonica,

Objective To describe the adequate feeding of early enteral nutrition in critical patients with cancer, and explore its influencing factors. Methods A retrospective analysis study was performed and 161 patients were involved. Results Nearly 57.14%patients got adequate feeding. The independent risk factors included complications (P < 0.05,OR=2.312,OR 95%CI 1.078-4.958), Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation Ⅱ (APACHEⅡ) scores (P < 0.05,OR=1.111,OR 95%CI 1.017-1.214) and hypoalbuminemia (P<0.05,OR=2.252,OR 95%CI 1.036-4.892) , and the protective factor was previous enteral nutrition experience (P<0.01,OR=0.123,OR 95%CI 0.021-0.494). Patients who got adequate feeding showed more increase in albumin levels, more decrease in APACHEⅡscores and shorter ICU stays. Conclusions Part of patients got inadequate feeding, due to comprehensive effects of many factors. And adequate feeding may be beneficial to the increase of albumin levels, also helps patients rehabilitate early and shorten the ICU stays.

8. Quality and quantity classification models of Fructus Amomi applying electronic nose with multiple mathematical statistics methods
Journal of International Pharmaceutical Research 2015;42(4):513-518
Objective Fructus Amomi (Sharen) is derived from the dry ripe fruit of Amomum villosum Lour., A.villosum Lour. var. xanthioides T.L. Wu et Senjen and A.longiligulate T.L.Wu, which is widely utilized for its clinic effects on digestive system. However, Fructus Amomi from different species and habitats, possessing different quality, is difficult to identify. In this study, we aim to develop a simple, rapid and reliable method for authentication of Fructus Amomi. Method- Twenty-five batches of samples of Fructus Amomi were collected and electronic nose was introduced into analyzing their odor with multiple mathematical statistics methods. Naïve bayes network (NBN), radical basis function (RBF) and random forest (RF) were applied to establish different classifiers while BestFirst+CfsSubsetEval (BC) was used to screen the attributes for searching sensor array with higher contributions. Results- Firstly, after attribute-screening via BC, the established discriminative models via NBN, RBF and RF could successfully identify genuine and non-genuine samples, presenting correct judging ratios of 78% and 84% through ten-fold cross validation and external test set validation, respectively. Besides, quantity predictive models were constructed as well. In case of content of bornyl acetate, one of the effective components in Fructus Amomi, values were higher than 3.5 mg/g and lower than 1.8 mg/g with sensor response of 0.04 and 0.03, respectively. Conclusion In this paper, quality discriminative model and quantity predictive model of Fructus Amomi were established via electronic nose and multiple mathematical statistics methods. It indicates that electronic nose could be a promising method for quality evaluation of Chinese material medica.

Objective To analyze the changes of the intima-media thickness(IMT)of carotid and femoral arteries, serum advanced glycosylation end-products(AGEs),and AGEs soluble receptor(sRAGE)after intensively controlling blood glucose, blood pressure, and lipid. Methods One hundred and thirty-two type 2 diabetic patients were divided into 3 groups and followed for 5 years: 20 patients were treated with intensive control of blood glucose and blood pressure, 80 patients with intensive control of blood glucose, blood pressure, and lipid; and 32 patients with conventional therapy. AGEs, sRAGE, and IMT of carotid and femoral arteries were measured and compared among different groups. Results The IMT of carotid and femoral arteries and serum level of AGEs were significantly decreased after intensive treatment. The ratio of sRAGE and HbA1C(sRAGE/HbA1C)were negatively correlated with the mean of HbA1Cin the past five years(r=-0.417, P<0.001)and the fluctuation of HbA1C(r=-0.309,P<0.001). Multinomial regression analysis showed that AGEs were the important risk factors of IMT of femoral artery(β=0.152,P=0.068). Conclusion Intensive treatment is significant in controlling the growing IMT of carotid and femoral arteries, while decreasing serum level of AGEs.

In this study, CD133+ subpopulations were isolated from 41 primary colorectal cancer tissues, the proliferation and cell cycle distribution of the cells were examined without in vitro expansion, and then compared to those of cell lines. The detection of CD133 in colorectal cancer tissues, isolation of CD133+ and CD133- epithelial subpopulations, Ki-67/DNA multiparameter assay and cell volume analysis were flow cytometrically conducted. The results showed that Ki-67 expression was correlated with CD133 level in primary cancer tissues, while cell cycle G2/M phase distribution or clinicopathological characteristics was not. In addition, the CD133+ cells showed larger cell volume and higher Ki-67 expression as compared with CD133- cells. But there was no statistically significant difference in G(2)/M phase distribution between the two subpopulations. Our results demonstrated that the CD133+ subpopulation in colorectal cancer tissue contained more actively cycling and proliferating cells, which was not correlated to clinicopathological factors but might contribute to tumor progression and poor clinical outcome.
