OBJECTIVETo study the predicting effect of proly 4-hydroxylase beta polypeptide (P4HB) in treating non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients by Yiqi Chutan Recipe (YCR).
METHODSTotally 46 stage III and IV NSCLC patients were treated by YCR for 4 therapeutic courses. Effect was assessed by RECIST of solid tumor. P4HB expression was detected in the lung cancer tissue by immunohistochemical assay. Factors affecting disease control rates (DCR) of YCR were analyzed by Logistic regression analysis. The correlation between P4HB expression and the effect of YCR was analyzed.
RESULTSThe DCR of advanced NSCLC treated by YCR was 36.96% (17/46 cases). P4HB was high expressed in advanced lung cancer tissue (6/15 cases). Gender, initial treatment, and retreatment are independent factors for affecting DCR of treating lung cancer by YCR.
CONCLUSIONP4HB might be taken as a factor for predicting the effect of YCR in treating NSCLC.

AIM: To study the characteristics of retinal detachment surgery after laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK).METHODS: Eleven eyes of ten patients that experienced rhegmatogenous retinal detachment after LASIK procedure participated in the study. The characteristics of retinal detachment, management and complications after surgery were analyzed . RESULTS: Retinal detachment was characterized by the large percentage of multiple peripheral holes (73%) and giant tears (27%). All eyes underwent sclera buckling, and three of them combined with pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) and silicone oil tamponade. Silicone oil was removed after 1 month. Retina was reattached successfully at the first retinal detachment surgery in all eyes except one that succeeded at the fourth time. One eye of LASIK flap dehiscence and one eye of corneal subepithelial opacity occurred after surgery.CONCLUSION: Patients after LASIK should be carefully examined under pupillary dilation during follow-up. Sclera buckling is necessary to most retinal detachment after LASIK, and corneal protection is important in the treatment.

BACKGROUND:Corneal lymphangiogenesis is beneficial to the transport of corneal antigenic materials, and accelerates the process of antigen presentation, thereby playing an important role in corneal immunity. However, due to the paral el outgrowth of corneal blood and lymphatic vessels in transplanted corneas, it is often difficult to accurately evaluate the role of corneal lymphatic vessels in allograft rejection. OBJECTIVE:To explore the development of corneal lymphangiogenesis and angiogenesis in transplanted rat corneas after the blockade of vascular endothelial growth factor C (VEGF-C). METHODS:130 rats used to establish corneal al ogenic transplantation models were equally randomized into two groups:the anti-VEGF-C group and the control group. VEGF-C was blocked in the anti-VEGF-C group by intraperitoneal injection of neutralizing monoclonal anti-VEGF-C antibody every other day for 2 consecutive weeks. Meanwhile, rats in control groups received intraperitoneal injections of saline. Corneal angiogenesis and lymphangiogenesis were characterized using whole mount immunofluorescence, and the immune rejection of the grafts was evaluated by scoring the rejection index (RI). In addition, the expression of VEGF-C was examined by real-time PCR. The relationship of corneal lymphangiogenesis and angiogenesis to RI in transplanted corneas was also characterized. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:VEGF-C expression was markedly downregulated after VEGF-C blockade. Corneal lymphangiogenesis developed in parallel with corneal angiogenesis in the control group. While there was a mild reduction in blood vessel area (BVA) and a significant decrease in lymphatic vessel area (LVA) in the anti-VEGF-C group (P<0.05). In addition, RI was positively correlated with BVA (P<0.05) and LVA (P<0.05) in the control group. However, although RI was significantly correlated with BVA (P<0.05) in the anti-VEGF-C group, the correlation between RI and LVA was not statistically significant (P>0.05). the graft survival time in the anti-VEGF-C group was significantly increased compared with that in the control group (P<0.05). Our results show that the outgrowth of lymphatic vessels is separated from that of blood vessels in transplanted corneas by blocking VEGF-C. The blockade of VEGF-C has a significant role in preventing corneal lymphangiogenesis in corneal beds, which results in higher al ograft survival rates.

Objective To explore the high risk factors of metabolic syndrome(MS) in obese children with acanthosis nigricans.Me-thods Body mass index(BMI),blood lipid including triglyeride(TG) and cholesterol(CHO),low density lipoprotein-cholesterol(LDL-C),blood pressure, the level of fasting blood glucose(FBG) and 2 h after oral glucose tolerance test blood glucose(OGTT 2h BG) and the level of fasting insulin(FINS) and 2 h after oral glucose tolerance test insulin (OGTT 2h INS) and homeostasis model appraisal insulin resis-tance index(HOMA-IR) were measured and compared between 25 obese children with acanthosis nigricans[male 15,female 10;aged 8.4-16.0,mean 10.6 years old, weight (72.11?17.66) kg;height (155?14) cm]and 32 normal healthy children[male 18,female 14;aged 7.6-15.8,mean 9.8 years old]in department of pediatric during 1 year.HOMA-IR were also analyzed.Ultrasonic inspections for liver were performed in those children. Results BMI,TG,LDL-C and blood pressure in the obese group were significantly higher than those in the normal control group(Pa0.05).Eighty-four percent of patients in obese children with acanthosis nigricans were diagnosed adiposis hepatica by ultrasonograph. Conclusions The increasing BMI,insulin resistance, blood lipid disorder and blood pressure increase in obese children with acanthosis nigricans are the high risk factors of MS,the close followed-up and treating this kind of obese children can acquire MS early and be helpful to postpone the progress of diabetesⅡ and cardiovascular diseases.

Objective To establish a new determination method for the measuring of alkaline phosphatase activity (ALP) with p-acetyl phenyl phosphace (PAP-PNa_2) as substrate. Methods With the help of Vital semiautomatic analyzer, researched a continuous-monitoring procedure and set up experimental parameters. Results When using this assay, the wavelength of PAP's absorption was 325 nm and the Km of ALP was 0.376 mmol/L.The molecular extinction coefficient of PAP at 340 nm was 23 390 L?mol~(-1)? cm~(-1) and the concentration of citrate buffer was 0.438 mol/L.During the process,we found that the optimum pH of enzyme was 10.4,and the concentration of substrate was 5.0 mmol/L.The time of linear reaction was 900 seconds, and the linear range was 0-1 110 U/L.Serum total ALP were 63.1-118.3 U/ L(male) and 52.5-89.0 U/L(female),based on results from 60 heath adults. Conclusions The method is practical in its repetition and convenience, saves time and is not liable to be affected by bilirubin in serum. It is especially suited to the use of automatic analyzers.

Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), multipotent stem cells, can replicate as undifferentiated cells and have the potential to differentiate into different lineages of mesenchymal tissues, including bone, cartilage, endothelial, neural, smooth muscle, skeletal myoblasts, and cardiac myocyte cells. The ischemia-induced death of cardiomyocytes results in scar formation and reduced contractility of the ventricle. Several preclinical and clinical studies have supported the notion that MSCs therapy may be used for cardiac regeneration. When transplanted into the infracted heart, MSCs prevent deleterious remodeling and improve recovery, but the mechanism is not clear. In this work,we review evidence and new prospects that support the use of MSCs in cardiomyoplasty.
