AlM: To observe the clinical curative effect of calcium dobesilate capsule and yimaikang tablet for treating retinal vein occlusion ( RVO) .METHODS:A total of 120 patients (167 eyes) with RVO were divided into 2 groups at random. The control group of 60 cases ( 82 eyes ) were given calcium dobesilate capsule, and the treatment group of 60 cases ( 85 eyes ) received calcium dobesilate capsule and yimaikang tablet. Changes of visual acuity and clinical effects after 3 courses of treatment were compared and analyzed for all patients.RESULTS: Markedly effective 15 cases ( 23 eyes ) , effective 42 cases (57 eyes) and invalid 3 cases (5 eyes) in the 60 cases (85 eyes) of the treatment group, the total effective rate was 94. 1%. Eighty-two eyes of 60 cases in the control group, markedly effective in 8 cases ( 12 eyes), effective 38 cases (49 eyes), ineffective 14 cases (21 eyes), The total effective rate was 74. 4% in the control group. There were significant differences between the 2 groups of curative effect, and low incidence rate of adverse reaction. CONCLUSlON: Calcium dobesilate capsules and yimaikang tablet is effective and safe in the treatment of RVO.

Side population (SP) cells are highly enriched for stem cell activity and characterized by their ability to efflux the vital dye Hoechst 33342, because they express the ATP binding cassette (ABC)-dependent transporter ABCG2. SP cells can be selected from main population using flow cytometric analysis. Currently SP cells have been isolated from many tissues and organs. SP cells of different origins have some common characteristics. This article introduces the classifications, surface marker, and characteristics of SP cells.

Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of lung detoxification soup for treatment of patients with ventilator associated pneumonia(VAP)and its effects on serum procalcitonin(PCT),high sensitivity C reactive protein (hs-CRP)and white blood cell count(WBC). Methods A prospective randomized controlled trial was conducted, sixty cases of VAP with traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)syndrome of accumulation of phlegm and heat in lung from Department of Intensive Care Unit(ICU)in the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui TCM University were enrolled, and the CASIO fx-360P function calculator was applied to generate random numbers to proceed to simple randomized dividing into two groups(each,30 cases). In the control group,mechanical ventilation,anti-infection,prevention of stress ulcer,early enteral nutrition,early weaning of ventilator and conventional western medicine treatment were given to the patients,while in the treatment group,based on the above conventional treatments in the control group,additionally the lung detoxification soup was given(soup composition:radix astragali 20 g ,baical skullcap root 15 g,coptis 10 g,shellfish 8 g,pinelliae tuber 10 g,white mustard seed 10 g,heartleaf houttuynia herb 15 g, honeysuckle flower 15 g,forsythia 15 g,banlangen 15 g,rhubarb 10 g,salvia miltiorrhiza 30 g)by nasal feeding, once 100 mL,twice a day. The therapeutic course was 7 days in both groups. The changes of TCM syndrome integral, levels of serum PCT,hs-CRP and WBC before and after treatment and the clinical efficacy were compared between the two groups. Results After treatment,the TCM syndrome integral,the levels of WBC,serum PCT,hs-CRP were significantly lower than those before treatment in both groups,and the decrease in treatment group being more marked〔TCM syndrome integral:4.73±1.10 vs. 10.33±1.46,WBC(×109/L):8.71±0.55 vs. 10.77±0.65,PCT (μg/L):1.64±0.40 vs. 5.71±1.25,hs-CRP(mg/L):4.96±1.06 vs. 8.85±1.53,all P<0.05〕. The total effective rate of treatment group was significantly higher than that in the control group〔(93.33%(28/30)vs. 73.33(22/30),P<0.05〕. Conclusion The lung detoxification soup can significantly improve the clinical symptoms,reduce the levels of WBC,serum PCT and hs-CRP in patients of VAP with TCM syndrome of accumulation of phlegm and heat in lung, therefore the soup may play a beneficial role as an adjuvant therapy for such patients.

Objective To evaluate the effects of small dose of dopamine on the renal blood flow in the elderly patients undergoing cardiac valve replacement under cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB).Methods Sixty elderly patients,of ASA physical status Ⅱ or Ⅲ,aged 65-74 yr,weighing 52-77 kg,scheduled for elective cardiac valve replacement under CPB,were randomized to receive either normal saline (group C,n =30) or dopamine (group D,n =30).After beginning of surgery,CPB was established routinely.In group D,dopamine was continuously infused for 20 min at a rate of 2 μg· kg-1 · min-1 starting from 10 min after the hearts were perfused with cardioplegic solution for the first time,while the equal volume of normal saline was given in group C.The left renal blood flow velocity was measured by transesophageal echocardiography and mean arterial pressure was recorded before and after dopamine infusion.Blood samples were obtained before surgery and at 24 h after surgery for determination of blood urea nitrogen concentrations.Results Blood urea nitrogen concentrations were significantly increased at 24 h after surgery than that before surgery in the two groups.There was no significant difference in mean arterial pressure and the left renal blood flow velocity before and after dopamine infusion between the two groups.Conclusion Small dose of dopamine (2 μg· kg-1· min-1) dose not increase the renal blood flow or improve the postoperative renal function in the elderly patients undergoing cardiac valve replacement under CPB.

Aim To investigate effects of cinnamic acid (CINN) on the differentiation of MGC-803 cells. Methods MGC-803 cells were treated by CINN (1, 2 and 3 mmol?L-1), and the rate of growth suppression was evaluated by 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazole-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay. Plate clone formation assay was carried out to detect the phenotypes of colony formation. FACS analysis was used to analyze the cell cycle. The activity of telomerase was examined by telomeric repeat amplification protocol (TRAP) PCR-silver staining. Results CINN showed significant inhibitory effect on growth of these gastric carcinoma cells at 24, 48, 72 and 96 h. Objective To investigate the effects of platelet-derived growth factor(PDGF) on the expression of ?-smooth muscle actin(?-SMA) of cultured human retinal pigment epithelium cells(RPE). Methods Cultured human RPE cells of the 4-6 th passages were divided into two groups: Delbecco′s modified Eagle′s medium (DMEM) and 2%DMEM (20 g/L foeta calf serum+DMEM). PDGF (0,1,50 ng/ml) was added to medium.The expression of ?-SMA was detected and quantitatively analyzed by image process of immunofluorescence. Results PDGF stimulated the expression of ?-SMA of human RPE cells.In group of DMEM, The rate of RPE of ?-SMA expression was 40%-50% and the intension of fluorescence was 8 08 without PDGF. After stimulated by PDGF(1 ng/ml,50 ng/ml), the rates were 80% and 90% respectively, and the intension of fluorescence were 12.35 and 17.23. In 2%DMEM group, The rates of RPE of ?-SMA expression were 85% without PDGF, and 95% ,100% respectively treated with PDGF (1 ng/ml,50 ng/ml). The intension of fluorescence was 14.79 without PDGF, and after stimulated by PDGF, they were 16.28 at 1 ng/ml and 21.36 at 50 ng/ml,which was 2.7 times stronger than that in DMEM group without PDGF. Conclusion PDGF could stimulate RPE cells to express ?-SMA.
