Objective To develop a new type fusion apparatus for scaphoid-trapezium-trapezoid (STT) arthrodesis. Methods The apparatus was designed on the basis of the anatomic data of STT measured from Chinese cadaveric wrists.Simulated arthrodeses of STT joints were conducted to test the fixation performance of the apparatus made of titanium alloy on the STT joint specimens.Several modifications were made before the apparatus was made into a finished product. Results The fusion apparatus consists of a plate and screws. The fusion plate for STT arthrodesis is made into a taper one connected to a cylinder. On the plate are three screw holes through which the three carpal bones (STT) are fixed by three screws respectively. The hollow cylinder is designed for bone grafting, and its outer threads ensure a very tight contact between the fusion plate and the carpal bones.Auxiliary tools are also made. Conclusions As the novel design of the fusion apparatus improves the mechanical strength of fixation of STT and prevents the possible rotation and collapse of fused STT,the apparatus is a reliable internal fixation device for the limited intercarpal arthrodesis.

Clinical Medicine of China 2011;27(1):54-56
Objective To explore the occurrence of anemia, anaemia type, iron metabolism situation, variation of serum Prealbumin (PA), and the relationship among them in cancer patients. Methods Three hundred and seventy cancer patients, admitted from July 2007 to April 2010 to our hospital, were enrolled into the study. The clinical data of all subjects were analyzed retrospectively. Results The incidence of anemia in 370 patients was 55.67% (206/370). Among all 206 anemia cases,129 cases had mild anaemia and 77 cases had middle to severe anaemia. In the last group ( n = 77 ), we found significant decrease in serum iron level ( [ 8. 37 ± 6. 09 ] μmol/L) and increase in serum ferritin level ( [ 474. 57 ± 327. 58 ] μg/L); and the correlation between serum iron and the anemia degree( Ps < 0. 05 ). However, we found no significant differences of serum ferritin level between the groups with different degree of anemia(P >0. 05). Among all 206 anemia cases ,187(90. 77% ) patients had a low level of serum PA, but no relationship between the degree of anemia and the drop of serum PA ( P > 0. 05 ). Conclusion The anemia was very popular in cancer patients, which had correlation with iron metabolism situation but not PA.

?Pathological myopia are often complicated by a series of pathological changes in fundus including foveoschisis, which can lead to visual dysfunction when processing with retinal detachment, macular hole, epiretinal membrane and vitreoretinal traction diseases. According to the current knowledge, the main mechanism of foveoschisisi might be attributed to the impaired macular structure and function caused by a variety of traction on the retinal and retina poor condition. Surgical treatments have been reported to be effective in treating foveoschisis, however, the indications and surgical procedures are still controversial. ln this article, we reviewed the clinical features, diagnosis, treatment strategies and prognosis of pathological myopia foveoschisis.

To perform modal analysis of CT shelter by applying computer simulation technology so as to pro-vide theoretical guidance for CT shelter structure optimization. Based on CAD model, the finite element model of a CT shelter was established with ANSYS simulation platform. Through modal analysis, different-order modal frequency and modal shape of the shelter were computed and the kinetic characteristics were evaluated. Low order modal frequency was kept away from the natural frequency range of chassis system resonance to avoid the overall structure reso-nance; the 3rd and the 4th modal frequency and engine idle speed frequency were very close so that local resonance might occur; road roughness excitation frequency covered the first 6 order modal frequencies and the further vibration-re-ducing measures of CT equipment were suggested. Based on the theories of finite element method and current software platform, modal analysis of shelter structure can be simulated and the results can provide valuable data for the improvement of kinetic characteristics and structure design.

Objective:To describe the expression profiling of microRNAs of patients with non-small cell lung cancer. Methods:We reduced the scope of downregulated microRNAs in patients with non-small lung cancer by high throughput microarray based on quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR). In this process, the downregulated microRNAs of non-small cell lung cancer tissues can be de-tected and compared with adjacent healthy lung tissues with relatively small samples. Different microRNA expression levels in non-small cell lung cancer and adjacent healthy lung tissues were verified in a large sample by RT-PCR. Results:A total of 20 types of microRNAs were significantly downregulated in non-small cell lung cancer tissues compared with adjacent healthy lung tissues. These microRNAs were listed as follows: hsa-miR-1; hsa-miR-22; hsa-miR-27a; hsa-miR-27b; hsa-miR-125a-5p; hsa-miR-125b;hsa-miR-142-5p;hsa-miR-143;hsa-miR-148a;hsa-miR-148b;hsa-miR-370;hsa-miR-373;hsa-miR-381;hsa-miR-489;hsa-miR-519a;hsa-miR-376c;hsa-miR-206;hsa-miR-380-5p;hsa-miR-223-5p;and hsa-miR-520c-3p. Among these microRNAs, 13 types were down-regulated in non-small cell lung cancer tissues as verified by RTPCR. These 13 types of microRNAs were listed as follows:hsa-miR-125a-5p; hsa-miR-143; hsa-miR-519a; hsa-miR-223-5p; hsa-miR-1; hsa-miR-520c-3p; hsa-miR-489; hsa-miR-27a;hsa-miR-373; hsa-miR-125b; hsa-miR-27b; hsa-miR-142-5p; and hsa-miR-206. Conclusion: In non-small lung cancer tissue, several kinds of microRNAs were significantly downregulated. Changes in microRNA expressions were significantly associated with tumori-genesis, progression, or other cancer cell functions in non-small cell lung cancer.

Objective To analyze MRI features of different cervical flexion positions in Hirayama disease (HD) and discuss the effects on these features by different cervical flexion angles. Methods The cervical MR images of neutral and different flexion positions (20°, 25°, 30°, 35° ,40°) of 20 patients, who were clinically diagnosed as HD,were studied. At flexion positions, the appearance of anterior shifting of the posterior wall of the cervical dural canal and widening of epidural space was recorded. The maximum sagittal diameters (d) of widened cervical epidural space and the cervical canal sagittal diameters (D) on the same level were measured to calculate d/D value for quantitative evaluation of the two signs.Comparisons of appearance of the signs among different flexion positions were made using F/sher's exact test.Repeated measures analysis of variance (rmANOVA) was used to compare mean d/D values among groups with different positions, and paired comparisons were also performed. Results The appearance of anterior shifting of the posterior wall of the cervical dural canal were different between 20° group (70%, 14/20) and other 4 larger angles groups (100%) (χ2 =5.76, P=0.020).The d/D values were 0.51±0.06,0.54±0.08,0.57±0.09,0.61±0.09,0.59±0.07 respectively at abovementioned 5 flexion positions, which were different among groups( F = 3.450 ,P = 0.013 ).The value was greater at 35° than that at 20° and 25°( P <0.05 ), and it was also greater at 40° than that at 20° ( P < 0.05 ).Conclusion Cervical flexion angle has an effect on anterior shifting of the posterior wall of the cervical dural canal and widening of epidural space.
