This study was conducted to determine the impacts of perceived stress and self-compassion on the quality of life of nursing students. Methods: Data were collected from 180 nursing students between 11 October and 26 October 2018 from a college in A city. A total of 157 questionnaires were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-tests, a one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation, and stepwise multiple regression. Results: The findings show that perceived stress had a significant negative correlation with quality of life (r=-.73, p<.001). However, self-compassion showed a significant positive correlation with quality of life (r=.66, p<.001). The factors influencing quality of life included perceived stress, self-compassion, state of health, and satisfaction with school life, with perceived stress being the most influential factor (β=-.42), followed by self-compassion (β=.30), which together had an explanatory power of 64.0%. Moreover, there was a mediating effect of self-compassion in the relationship between perceived stress and quality of life. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that nursing college students should search for ways to reduce their perceived stress as well as increase self-compassion with meditation programs in order to improve their quality of life.

The saccadic reaction times to the double-step stimuli were studied in three human subjects to ascertain the saccadic visual tracking characteristics. Responses to simple step and double-step target motions were measured where the target mode and stimulus durations were randomized. To measure the eye movement the Photo-electric Eye Monitor was constructed based on limbus tracking. The results indicate that observers represented two kind of responses (A-or B-type) depending upon the stimulus duration. The percentage of occurrances increased as the stimulus duration increased from 50 to 200 msec. When the subject responded to both target motions, the reaction time of the second saccade was shorter than that of the first. The successive visual information is to change continuously the reaction time or cancel the initial saccade. Our results revealed that parallel data processing characteristics of the visual tracking systems and the saccadic decision-makings are influenced by the temporal relationships.

A new method is described which uses photo-electric matrix method to measure two-dimensional eye movements. This system is composed of the detector unit (monitor), matrix and correction circuits and stimulus generator. A light and small detector unit attached to the modified trial frame transduces positional informations and can be achieved head-mounting. The instrument operates in the infrared, so that it does not interfere with normal vision, and over a two-dimensional visual field to +/-15 degrees. A system for generating a fixed target whose velocity, displacement, form, intensity, and other characteristics can be varied systematically also is described. The operating procedures are described and operating records are shown. Electrical and optical modifications of the present system will make possibIe the measurement of more smaller movement of the eye. Extensions and improvement of the technique of measurement are discussed briefly.

We report a mild variant of hypomelia-hypotrichosis-facial hemangioma syndrome in a 3 month-old female. The patient showed major features of the previously reported cases including flexion deformities of both upper extremities, sparse light colored hair, mid-facial hemangioma and a characteristic facial appearance. Roentgenogram showed radio-humeral synostosis at both elbow joints by which shortening of upper limbs could be anticipated. However, intra- and extrauterine growth retardation were not remarkable and the lower limbs were not affected.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study is to understand the level of fatigue and daily living activities and to confirm their relationship in patients with chronic liver disease. METHOD: The sample consisted of 182 patients with chronic liver disease with a mean age of 42.4 years, who visited the D University Hospital and a S clinic from February, 2004 to March in 2004. Data were collected by a self reporting questionnaire on the selected variables such as fatigue and daily life activities. Collected data were analyzed by using SPSS program for descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation coefficients, t- test, ANOVA. RESULTS: Subjects showed the mild level of fatigue and slightly high level of daily living activities. They also showed a negative relationship between fatigue and daily living activities. CONCLUSION: It is necessary to develop nursing intervention program to reduce the level of fatigue for improving the level of daily living activities in patients with chronic liver disease.

Soft tissues, which are widespread in body, are derived from a common primitive mesenchyme and the tumors arising from them tend to closely resemble the prototype tissue in varying degree. Some soft tissue tumors have benign course, which can be cured by local excision and the other have malignant course being resistant to therapy and resulting in recurrence to other organ of tissues. The authors reviewed 279cases of soft tissue tumors which had been treated at Department of Orthopedic Surgery in Severance Hospital, Yonsei University College of Medicine from January 1983 to December 1987. 1. Among 279cases of soft tissue tumors, 257(92.1%) were benign and 22(7.9%) were malignant. 2. Benign soft tissue tumors were common two times in female, and malignant tumors were relatively common in male. 3. Common sites of soft tissue tumors were 92 csses about the knee, 69 csses in the hand and wrist, 44 cases in the foot, 26 cases in the leg, 15 cases in the thigh, 14 cases about the elbow, 10 cases in the arm and foresrm. 4. The most common benign tumors was ganglion which was followed by Baker's cyst, hemangioma, fibromatosis, lipoma, epidermal cyst in decreasing order of incidence. Among malignant tumors, fibrosarcoma, malignant fibrous histiocytoma, malignant schwannoma, synovial sarcoma, leiomyosarcoma were common. 5. Most of the benign tumors was taken by locsl excision, and malignant tumors were were trested by wide resection with combination of chemotherapy. 6. Local recurrences of benign tumors were developed in 26(10.1%) out of 257cases, especially in fibromatosis and hemangioma.

Purpose: This study examined the effects of a loving-kindness and compassion meditation program on the empathy, emotion, and stress of nursing college students. Methods: A pre-posttest experimental design with a non-equivalent control group was applied. The participants were 39 nursing college students (experimental group: 19, control group: 20). The loving-kindness and compassion meditation program for nursing college students took 8 weeks. Data was collected from February 2016 to March 2016, and was analyzed by Chi-square test and independent t-test using IBM SPSS/WIN 19.0. Results: The difference between the experiment group and control group was statistically significant in empathy, negative affect, and perceived stress. Conclusion The results indicate that the loving-kindness and compassion meditation program was effective for empathy improvement and stress management of nursing college students.

PURPOSE: We hypothesized that Purkinje potential and their preferential conduction to the left ventricle (LV) posteroseptum during sinus rhythm (SR) are part of reentrant circuits of idiopathic left ventricular tachycardia (ILVT) and reentry anchors to papillary muscle. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In 14 patients with ILVT (11 men, mean age 31.5+/-11.1 years), we compared Purkinje potential and preferential conduction during SR with VT by non-contact mapping (NCM). If clear Purkinje potential(SR) was observed in the LV posteroseptum and the earliest activation site (EA) of preferential conduction at SR (EASR) was well matched with that of VT (EAVT), EASR was targeted for radiofrequency catheter ablation (RFCA). Also, the anatomical locations of successful ablation sites were evaluated by echocardiography in five additional patients. RESULTS: 1) All induced VTs exhibited clear Purkinje potential(VT) and preferential conduction in the LV posteroseptum. The Purkinje potential(VT) and EAVT was within 5.8+/-8.2 mm of EASR. However, the breakout sites of VT were separated by 30.2+/-12.6 mm from EAVT to the apical side. 2) Purkinje potential(SR) demonstrated a reversed polarity to Purkinje potential(VT), and the interval of Purkinje potential(SR)-QRS was longer than the interval of Purkinje potential(VT)-QRS (p<0.02) 3) RFCA targeting EASR eliminated VT in all patients without recurrence within 23.3+/-7.5 months, and the successful ablation site was discovered at the base of papillary muscle in the five additional (100%) patients. CONCLUSION: NCM-guided localization of EASR with Purkinje potential(SR) matches well with EAVT with Purkinje potential(VT) and provides an effective target for RFCA, potentially at the base of papillary muscle in patients with ILVT.

Although left atrial appendage closure is an alternative to warfarin use in atrial fibrillation patients with a high bleeding risk, long-term outcome data in real-world practice are still limited. We describe a delayed shunt on the WATCHMAN fabric membrane and associated stroke at 7 months after the procedure. This shunt on the device surface disappeared at 15 months on the follow-up transesophageal echocardiogram.

The purpose of this review is to examine the ways in which eye position and eye movements are measured in order to justify the choice of method for the study concerning the eye movement control systems. The oculomotor control systems were reviewed previously as a viewpoint of measuring objects. Because of the different aspects of eye movement which have been considered, various techniques have been developed-each having its own characteristics of range, sensitivity, bandwidth, stability and ease of application. This study is directed at discussing the pros and cons inherent in a basic method of measurement and to indicate the interesting historical development of oculography as new technologies were employed. Various methods are summarized and photo-electronic method(Limbus tracking technique) was chosen which is most available for the future experimentation.
