Normal function of lacrimal gland plays an important role in the dry eye syndrome-More and more attention had been given to the impact of hormones,especially sex hormones,on lacrimal structure and function.Sex hormone replacement therapy is also considered as a new approach to the treatment of dry eye syndrome.But other hormones,example coming from hypothalamic-pituitary axis such as prolactin,promote black hormone,adrenocorticotropic hormone and luteinizing hormone,follicle-stimulating hormone,thyroid stimulating hormone and growth hormone as well as thyroid element,insulin,glucocorticoid,glucagon coming from endocrine glands also are involve in growth,differentiation,organization and functional activities of lacrimal gland.A variety of hormones-related structure and function of lacromal gland are reviewed in this paper.

Despite the immense achievement in the field of IVF in recent years, many patients still suffer from recurrent implantation failure. Therefore, much attention has been drawn to its etiology and treatment. Chromosomal abnormality, sperm DNA damage, zona hardening, and inappropriate culture conditions are important factors that lead to recurrent implantation failure. Results of studies suggest that preimplantation genetic screening does not improve the rate of implantation or live birth. Comparative genomic hybridization array and single nucleotide polymorphism array could offer a more comprehensive screening of chromosomes. Assisted hatching may help to solve the problem of zona hardening in some situations. Co-culture and blastocyst transfer could be conducive to the improvement of the rates of implantation and pregnancy. Cytoplasmic transfer may give a solution to ooplasmic composition anomalies.

Objective To assess the clinical effect of anterior transposition of the inferior oblique muscle (ATTO) with and without resection in the treatment of dissociated vertical deviation (DVD). Methods Thirty-six patients ( 59 eyes ) with DVD were divided into the standard group ( 30 eyes) and the resection group (29 eyes) by random digits table undertaking ATIO with and without a 7-mm resection. The vertical deviation degree in primary position and the eyeball motility were recorded and evaluated. Results The vertical deviation degree in primary position were 0△-10△ (3.5 △± 2.7△) after 3 months operation in the standard group,while 0△-12△ (3.3△±3.6△) in the resection group. There were no significant differences between two groups (P＞ 0.05). In the standard group, 2 cases revealed +2 inferior oblique muscle overaction (IOOA), 7 cases revealed +1 and 21 cases revealed 0 after 3 months operation. In the resection group, 1 case revealed +2 IOOA, 4 cases revealed +1 and 24 cases revealed 0 after 3 months operation. There were no significant differences between two groups(P＞ 0.05 ). The presence or absence of IOOA did not influence the result of ATIO for either group. Conclusions ATIO is an effective treatment for DVD and can be used to treat DVD in patients without IOOA. A 7-mm resection with the standard ATIO has no advantage to improve the surgery outcome.

OBJECTIVE:To establish the quality standard of Compound niubangzi buccal tablets.METHODS:Lonicerae japonica and Paeonia suffruticosa in the formulation were identified by TLC,and the content of arctiin in the tablets was determined by HPLC.RESULTS:The TLC spots were clear,well-isolated and distinctive.The linear range of arctiin was 0.586～5.274 ?g(r=0.999 9)and its average recovery was 98.94%(RSD=1.68%,n=9).CONCLUSION:The established quality standard can be used for the quality control of Compound niubangzi buccal tablets.

Objective We reported 16 eosinophilic fasciitis (EF) patients with eosinophilic fasciitis and performed a systematic review of the literature to improve the disease awareness.Methods The clinical course of 16 patients with eosinophilic fasciitis at the Peking Union Medical College Hospital were described,inclu-ding demographic data,clinical manifest-ations,laboratory tests,pathology and treatment.Results The mean age at diagnosis was (47±8) years,with 13 female and 3 male patients.Three cases had exertion or strenuous sports before the onset of EF.Positive ANA was noted in 6 of 12,positive RF was noted in 3 of 10,hyper-gammaglobulinemia was noted in 6 of 7,elevated IgG was noted in 8 of 13,peripheral blood eosinophilia was noted in 10 of 16,while thrombocytopenia was found in one patient.Conclusion Based on this and other reported cases in the literature,EF may be a kind of autoimmune disease.Genetic influence and environ-mental factors are involved in the development of this disease.Systemic involvement is rare.In general,corticosteroids and immunosuppressive are effective in EF.

Objective To explore the association between clinical pathological characteristics and the expressions of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and protein kinase B (AKT) in gastric carcinomas.Methods The expressions of EGFR and AKT were measured with immunohistochemical method in the cancer tissues and cancer-adjacent normal tissues from 153 cases of patients with gastric cancer.The association between clinical pathological characteristics and their expressions were analyzed.Results The expressions of AKT and EGFR in gastric cancer tissues had no relationship with gender,age,pathological type,and the degree of differentiation (P ＞ 0.05).A positive correlation was existed between the EGFR and TNM stages (x2 =5.43,P ＜0.05).The AKT was positively related to the size,T stage,and TNM stage of the tumor,respectively (x2 =4.73,4.95,5.32,P ＜0.05 orP ＜0.01).The levels of AKT (x2=4.83,4.75,P ＜0.05) and EGFR(x2 =4.67,4.58,P ＜0.05) in the gastric cancer tissues with lymph node and/or distant metastasis were significantly higher than the gastric cancer tissues without metastasis,respectively.Conclusions The over-expressions of AKT and EGFR would benefit the diagnosis and stages of a gastric cancer and the determination of its metastasis.

ObjectiveTo evaluate the effect of hydrogen-rich saline given during reperfusion on global cerebral ischeraia-reperfusion (I/R) injury in rats.Methods Seventy-two adult male SD rats,aged 2.0-2.5 months,weighing 260-300 g,were randomly divided into 3 groups (n ＝ 24 each):sham operation group (group S),group I/R and hydrogen-rich saline group (group H).In groups I/R and H cerebral I/R was induced by occlusion of 4 vessels( cauterization of bilateral carotid arteries and 15 min occlusion of bilateral common carotid arteries).In group H intraperitoneal 0.6 mmol/L hydrogen-rich saline 5 ml/kg was injected at 6 h of reperfusion,while equal volume of normal saline was injected instead of hydrogen-rich saline.Eighteen rats of each group were sacririced at 24 h of reperfusion,and then the hippocampi were removed for determination of malondialdehyde (MDA),tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α),interleukin-6 (IL-6)contents,and nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) activity and activated caspase-3 expression.Another six rats of each group were sacrificed at 72 h of reperfusion,and then brain tissues were removed for microscopic examination and counting the number of uninjured pyramidal cells in hippocampal CA1 region.ResultsCompared with S group,the contents of MDA,TNF-α,IL-6 and NF-κB activity were significantly increased,activated caspase-3 expression was significantly up-regulated,uninjured pyramidal cells in hippocampal CA1 region were significantly decreased in I/R group( P < 0.05).Hydrogen-rich saline given during reperfusion attenuated the above-mentioned I/R-induced changes( P < 0.05 ).The histologic damage of the hippocampal CA1 region was significantly slighter in group H than group I/R.ConclusionHydrogen-rich saline given during reperfusion can reduce global cerebral I/R injury in rats through inhibition of lipid peroxidation,inflammatory response and apoptosis.

Objective To develop a novel padlock probe and rolling circle amplification(RCA) to detect 5 common cell culture contaminant Mollicute( Mycoplasma arginini, Mycoplasma fermentans, Mycoplasma hyorhinis, Mycomplasma orale, and Acholeplasma laidlawii ). Methods "Universal" primers ( SPS1, SPA2 and SPS2, SPA1) were used to amplify the Mollicute 16S-23S rRNA intergenic spacer region.Amplicon was ligate Mollicute specific padlock probe. Probe amplified and monitored using a Corbett RotorGeneTM 6000 machine. Results Five reference Mollicute strains were correctly detected by RCA method.There was no cross-reaction. RCA method can sensitive detect 10 copies templates and show strong positive signal. Sixty-two cell culture specimens were detected. Thirty-seven samples were contained single specie Mollicute and 14 samples contained two Mollicutes. Eleven samples did not contained Mollicute. RCA detection results were concordant with previously species-specific PCR. Conclusion RCA can rapid, sensitive and specific detect contamination Mollicute.
