Objective:To evaluate the effects of different denture cleansers on the physical and mechanical properties of heat-cured denture base resin.Methods:Heat-curing denture base resin samples were prepared and respectively immersed in Polident,Stera-dent,0.5% sodium hypochlorite solution and distilled water for 60 h.The flexural strength and elastic modulus were measured(n =10)using 3-point bending test in a universal testing machine.A surface analyzer was used to measure the surface roughness of each specimen(n =10).Results:There were no significant differences of flexural strength and elastic modulus among Polident,Steradent and distilled water(P >0.05).The 0.5% sodium hypochlorite treatment produced lower flexural strength and elastic modulus than the other cleaners(P <0.05).No statistical significance of roughness was found among the solutions(P >0.05).Conclusion:Both Poli-dent and Steradent don't affect the physical and mechanical properties of the heat-cured acrylic resin.0.5% sodium hypochlorite solu-tion doesn't affect the surface roughness,but decreases the flexural strength and elastic modulus of the resin.

Objective: Small-cell esophageal cancer (SCEC) is a rare malignant tumor. Radiotherapy and chemotherapy have been considered as standard treatments for limited-stage SCEC (LS-SCEC). This study aimed to analyze the comprehensive treatment and prognosis of extensive-stage SCEC (ES-SCEC). Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of 35 Patients with ES-SCEC from the Cancer Hospital of Tianjin Medical University between January 1989 and April 2012. Results:A total of 33 patients (94.3%) participated in follow-up visits. The overall survival of the patients ranged between 0.6 and 42.4 months with a median of 9.5 months. All of the patients suffered from extensive metastasis. Among these patients, 33 manifested metastasis at diagnosis and 2 showed metastasis after surgery. One-and two-year survival rates were 27.2%(9/33) and 9.0%(3/33), respectively. Univariate and mul-tivariate analysis results revealed that the number of chemotherapy cycles (≥4) is a risk factor of OS (P=0.02) and the only indepen-dent risk factor (P=0.049). Conclusions:ES-SCEC is a malignant tumor with poor prognosis. Radiotherapy could not improve patient survival. Chemotherapy combined other therapeutic procedures could be considered as an effective treatment.

Objective:To evaluate the effects of different denture cleaners on the discoloration of heat-cured denture base resin and artificial teeth.Methods:40 same specifications of the heat-curing denture base resin and 40 artificial central incisors were immerced in an acombination stain of coffee,tea and soy sauce for 4 weeks.Then specimens and artificial teeth were randomly distributed into 4 groups and soaked in Polident,Steradent,0.5％ sodium hypochlorite solution and distilled water for 4 hours respectivelly(n =10).Color differences(△E) were measured by using a colorimeter and a denture spectrophotometer before and after staining,and after cleaning.Results:Before or after staining there was no difference of △E among the groups of denture base risn or artificial teeth(P ＞ 0.05).After cleaning the denture base resin and the artificial teeth in the group of 0.5％ sodium hypochlorite solution presented higher △E than the other groups(P ＜ 0.05),in group of distilled water presented lower △E than the other groups(P ＜ 0.05).No significant difference was found between Polident group and Steradent group(P ＞0.05).The △E of the denture base resin and artificial teeth.in distilled water group before staining and after cleaning were the highest among the groups(P ＜0.05).Conclusion:0.5％ sodium hypochlorite solution,Polident and Steradent are effective in removing the discoloration from the heat-cured acrylic resin and artificial teeth.0.5％ sodium hypochlorite solution is the most effective,Polident and Steradent are the similar.

Objective: To determine the transdermal absorption of phloretin and ligustilide in Fufang phloretin cream.Methods: In vitro percutaneous absorption test using the Franz intelligent transdermal absorption apparatus was adopted, an HPLC method was used to determine the contents of phloretin and ligustilide in the accepting solution at different time points, and then the cumulative release amount and the total penetration amount were calculated to evaluate the percutaneous absorption behavior.Results: Phloretin and ligustilide showed a good linearity within the range of 0.044 2-4.42 μg·ml-1(r=0.999 9) and 0.048 7-4.87 μg·ml-1(r=0.999 9), respectively, the average recovery was 99.85% and 99.92%, and RSD was 0.67% and 0.66% (n=9), respectively.The in vitro permeation behavior of phloretin and ligustilide through the skin of rats fit Higuchi equations(r>0.9), suggesting a good linear correlation between the cumulatine penetration amount (Qn) and (time).Conclusion: Fufang phloretin cream has a good percutaneous permeation property in vitro.

Anopheles minimus collected from Yuanjiang, Yunnan Province, were bred with standard methods in lab. The ovarian nurse cells of A.minimus were separated and stained, and the whole polytene chromosomes were photographed under light microscope and compared with A.minimus from Guangxi. 365 samples of ovarian nurse cells were observed. The chromosomes included one telocentric sex-chromosome X, two submetacentric autosomes II(autosome II right arm, 2R and autosome II left arm, 2L) and two metacentric autosomes III(autosome III right arm, 3R, and autosome III left arm, 3L). The X is the shortest chromosome and the 2R is the longest one. In comparison with the pattern of polytene chromosomes of A. minimus from Guangxi, difference at 12 positions has been found at the parts of arms in banding sequences.

Objective To investigate the impacts of pyruvate kinase M2 isoform (PKM2) silencing on the radiosensitivity of lung adenocarcinoma cell line (A549 cells) and the radiation synergy of xenografts, and to explore their mechanisms. Methods Plasmid pshRNA?PKM2 for interference with PKM2 expression was transfected into A549 cells, and empty vector?transfected cells and untransfected cells were set as con?trols. The silencing efficiency of pshRNA?PKM2 and the expression level of microtubule?associated protein 1 light chain 3(LC3) were measured by Western blot assay. The radiosensitizing effects in A549 cells and xen?ografts after PKM2 silencing were determined by colony?forming assay and xenografts growth curves. Autoph?agy formation in A549 cells and xenografts was analyzed by transmission electron microscopy, and the ex?pression level of PKM2 in xenografts was measured by immunohistochemistry. Comparison between groups was made by Student′s t?test, and the body weights of nude mice and xenograft volumes were subjected to a?nalysis of variance for continuous variables. Results Stable A549 cell lines transfected with pshRNA?PKM2 were successfully produced. Transfection with pshRNA?PKM2 significantly down?regulated PKM2 expression in A549 cells and xenografts (P= 0?? 001;P= 0?? 000). The sensitizer enhancement ratios for A549 cells and xenografts were 1?? 47 and 2?? 00, respectively. Interference with PKM2 expression enhanced radiation?in duced autophagy formation and significantly increased the ratio of LC 3 ? II / I ( P= 0.000 1 ) . Conclusions Silencing of PKM2 expression may enhance the radiosensitivity of A549 cells and xenografts by regulation of autophagy, which holds promise for becoming an effective radiosensitizing target for non?small cell lung canc?er, but still needs to be confirmed by further studies.

Objective:To investigate the effects and underlying mechanisms of XRCC3 on esophageal squamous-cell carcinoma (ESCC) radiotherapy response. Methods:Expression levels of XRCC3 were detected by reverse transcription PCR, Western blot, and immunohistochemistry. We knocked down XRCC3 with lentiviral infection in ESCC cells. Cell apoptosis was examined by flow cytom-etry. DNA damage and telomere dysfunction-induced foci were determined by immunofluorescence. Results:The expression levels of XRCC3 in ESCC cells and tissues were higher than those in normal esophageal epithelial cells and corresponding adjacent noncancer-ous esophageal tissues. Knockdown of XRCC3 in ESCC cells substantially increased the therapeutic efficacy of radiation. We demon-strated that the radiation resistance of XRCC3 was attributed to the XRCC3-maintaining telomere stability, which reduced ESCC cell death through radiation-induced apoptosis. Conclusion: Our data suggested that XRCC3 protects ESCC cells from ionizing radia-tion-induced DNA damage and death by enhancing telomere stability. Thus, XRCC3 can be used as a promising therapeutic target for ESCCs.

Objective: To explore the impact of body mass index (BMI) on long-term prognosis in patients of acute ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Methods: A total of 1435 consecutive STEMI patients received PCI in our hospital from 2013-01 to 2013-12 were enrolled. Based BMI (kg/m2), the patients were divided into 3 groups: Normal weight group, the patients with 18.5≤BMI<24.0, n=365, Overweight group, 24.0≤BMI<28.0, n=718 and Obese group, BMI≥28.0, n=352. The impact of BMI on major adverse cardiovascular and cerebral events (MACCE) was observed; weather BMI had predictive value for all-cause mortality and cardiac death was analyzed. Results: All-cause mortality in Obese group was lower than Normal weight group (0.6% vs 3.0%), P=0.027; while the incidences of bleeding, stroke, in-stent thrombosis, blood revascularization, re-myocardial infarction and cardiac death were similar among 3 groups. Multivariate analysis revealed that obesity was an independent predictor for all-cause death (HR=0.201, 95% CI 0.043-0.943, P=0.042), BMI was not the independent predictor for cardiac death. Conclusion: For STEMI patients after PCI treatment, the individuals with obesity had the better prognosis than those with normal weight and overweight. Obesity was an independent predictor for all-cause death and obesity paradox was applicable in such population.

Aim To explore the protective effects of lithium chloride ( LiCl ) on neurous injuries and phos-phorylation of tau protein at serine262 induced by okada-ic acid( OA) . Methods The neuroblastoma SK-N-SH cells were differentiated by all-trans-retinoic acid ( AT-RA) . The differentiated SK-N-SH cells were treated with OA to establish the Alzheimer′s disease cellular model. SK-N-SH cells′ viability and proliferation were measured by SRB test. Giemsa staining was used to observe cell morphology. The neurite length of SK-N-SH cells was measured by Image-Proplus software. Syn-aptophysin and phosphorylated tau protein at serine262 expression levels were tested by Western blot. Results The SK-N-SH cells which were treated with 10 μmol ·L-1 ATRA for 7 days displayed mature neuronal fea-tures. The synaptic length of SK-N-SH cells became longer. And the levels of serine262 phospho-tau was sig-nificantly elevated. 20~100 nmol·L-1 OA effectively inhibited the viability of differentiated SK-N-SH cells in a concentration-dependent manner and in a time-de-pendent manner. The OA treatment induced obvious synaptic atrophy in differentiated SK-N-SH cells. And the phosphorylation level of tau protein serine262 also greatly increased. The pretreatment with 10 mmol · L-1 LiCl significantly ameliorated the synaptic atrophy, the decrease of synaptophysin expression and the in-crease of tau phosphorylation at serine262 induced by OA in differentiated SK-N-SH cells. Conclusion LiCl could effectively inhibit OA-induced synaptic atro-phy in differentiated SK-N-SH cells, and it could also result in the increase of synaptophysin expression and the decrease of the phosphorylation of tau protein at serine262 .
