Objective To evaluate the diagostic value of hypersensitive C-reactive protein(hs-CRP),β2-microglobulin(β2-MG) and cystatin C(Cys-C)tests in diabetic nephropathy(DN)of early stage. Methods The turbidimetric immunoassay was adopted to determine serum hs-CRP,β2-MG and Cys-C concentrations in type 2 diabetic patients, including 100 cases with DN of early stage (DN group),50 cases without DN(NDN group)and 100 cases healthy controls(control group). Results Serum hs-CRP,β2-MG and Cys-C concentrations in DN group were significantly higher than that in control group and NDN group(P <0.05).Conclusion Hs-CRP,β2-MG and Cys C are sensitive indicators in the diagosis of DN.The combined determination of the three indicators im-proves the sensitivity of early DN diagnosis and is useful for monitoring the development of DN in early stage.

Objective To develop a PCR-based method of detecting plankton 16S rDNA for the i dentification of death by drowning. Methods Fifteen Sprague-Dawley rats were divided randomly into three groups: the death by drowning group, the group of submerging after death and the control group. After sacrificing by different ways, the brain, liver, kidney and lung of rats were taken out respectively and DNA were extracted from the tissues of these organs and were amplified subsequently by specific primers selected from the third and fourth variable regions of plankton 16S rDNA. Results The specific amplification products were detected from all 5 samples of lung tissue ( 100% ) , 4 samples from liver and kidney tissues (80% ) , and 3 samples from brain tissue (75% ) in the group of death by drowning. No amplification product was detected in all samples of the control group and the amplification product was detected only in 1 sample of lung (20% ) in the group of submerging after death. Conclusion The PCR-based method of detecting plankton 16S rDNA for the identification of death by drowning is certainly feasible.

Journal of Huazhong University of Science and Technology (Medical Sciences) 2007;27(2):213-6
In this study nine cases of thallium poisoning in a series of homicidal poisoning were analyzed in order to provide more information concerning thallium poisoning. It was found that the most common clinical feature of thallium poisoning was peripheral neuropathy and paraesthesia was more common than amyasthenia. Understanding of these clinical characteristics of thallium poisoning was helpful to early identification and differential diagnosis. Since the early administration of Prussian Blue, as a specific antidote for thallium poisoning, can substantially improve the prognosis, it is of great importance to establish a correct and early diagnosis.

Cerebral ischemia-induced inflammatory cascade reaction may aggravate nerve tissue damage and destroy blood-braln barrier, and angiogenesis after ischemia can improve nerve function. Inhibiting inflammatory response after stroke, promoting angiogenesis and protecting blood-braln may reduce nerve tissue damage and promote recovery of neurological function. Monocyte chemotactic protein 1-induced protein inhibits inflammatory signaling pathways through degradating proinflammatory cytokine mRNA. Its unique biological characteristics also suggest that it has the potential protective effect in cerebral ischemia. This article focuses on the roles of monocyte chemotactic protein 1-induced protein in cerebral ischemia.

Journal of Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine 2001;0(01):-
Up to now, advantages and disadvantages in the treatment of hypertensive middle_ and large_amount cerebral hemorrhage (HMLCH) by western medicine or traditional Chinese medicine,or by medical treatment or surgical treatment still exist. Mortality and disablement rate remain high. Western medicine combined with Chinese herbal medicine shows better effect in treating HMLCH, but the related research is preliminary. Therefore, thoughts of establishing comprehensive therapeutic protocols for HMLCH are presented as follows. Western medicine combined with Chinese herbal medicine is the fundamental therapeutic principle. Proper surgical operation should be employed promptly to clear away hemotoma and relieve the symptoms first according to the situation of the patient, hospital and the surgeon. Clearing heat and calming the liver, removing blood stasis and phlegm, relaxing the bowels and restoring consciousness are the fundamental therapeutic methods for HMLCH with yang_excess syndrome, and reinforcing Qi and activating blood circulation, removing phlegm and dredging channels, relaxing the bowels and restoring consciousness for yin_excess syndrome. Routine treatment and symptomatic treatment also should be taken into account.

Objective To observe the effects of mechanical ventilation with different tidal volumes (Vt) on the pulmonary surfactant in dogs during cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and discuss the strategy of mechanical ventilation for CPR.Methods A total of 24 healthy, adult and mongrel canines were randomly (random number) divided into three groups, namely control group (A),low Vt group (B) and high Vt group (C).Canines without ventricular fibrillation in group A were not supported with mechanical ventilation, while canines in group B and group C were induced to get ventricular fibrillation (VF) with pacing catheter inserted through right external carotid vein into the right ventricle.CPR was initiated with mechanical ventilation with different Vt for 6 hours after ventricular fibrillation. The Vt set in group B was 6 ml/kg body weight and Vt set in group C was 20 ml/kg body weight. The arterial blood gas analyses were tested in different intervals. The levels of phosphatidylchline in bronchia alveolus lavage fluid (BALF) was assayed with high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).The ratio of wet and dry weight and the morphological change scores of lung tissue were calculated. Results After ventricular fibrillation,pH,PaO2 in both groups B and C decreased and PaCO2 increased in comparison with those before VF (P < 0.05),while pH,PaO2 and PaCO2 were improved after mechanical ventilation. These was statistical difference in PaCO2 between group B and group C 2 h after mechanical ventilation (P < 0.05).There was difference in HCO3-between group B and group C 6 h after ROSC.The rate of successful restoration of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) and the 72 h survival rate were 75% and 50% respectively in group B,and 62.5% and 40% respectively in group C.There were no statistically different between two groups (P > 0.05).The levels of phosphatidylchline in BALF of group B and C greatly decreased compared with the group A (All P <0.01),while phosphatidylcholine detected in the group C decreased much more than that in the group B (P <0.01).The W/D ratio and morphological change scores in the group C were higher than those in the group B (P < 0.01).Conclusion Low tidal volume ventilation can reduce the loss of pulmonary surfactant and mitigate pulmonary injury. Therefore it may be a protective ventilation strategy after resuscitation.

Objective To evaluate the effect of 5? reductase inhibitor on vascularity of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Methods Sixty male adult rats were randomly divided into 4 groups (15 per group): normal control, BPH control group, the group of 5? reductase inhibitor treatment during hyperplasia and the group of treatment after hyperplasia. Immunohistochemistry combined with computer assisted image analysis system were performed to examine the expression of factor Ⅷ related antigen, PCNA and VEGF in the prostatic tissue for all rats. Results The microvessel density(MVD) and the expressions of PCNA and VEGF were much less in treatment during hyperplasia and treatment after hyperplusia than that in BPH control group( P
