2.The relationship between two kinds of human herpesviruses and experimental gingivitis.
Chinese Journal of Experimental and Clinical Virology 2012;26(5):348-351
OBJECTIVETo investigate human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) and Epstein-Barr virus-type 1 (EBV-1) in GCF and saliva during experimental gingivitis in Chinese young subjects and to evaluate the effect of the virus in the initial stage of gingival inflammation.
METHODSGCF of 14 and 45 and saliva without stimulating in 11 Chinese young males with healthy gingiva were collected at baseline (day 0), day 7, 14 and 21 after stopping oral hygiene and day7 after reestablishing oral hygiene (day 28). DNA of HCMV and EBV-1 were detected by nested-polymerase chain reaction (n-PCR) at the times mentioned above.
RESULTSHCMV was detected in GCF of 4 subjects at baseline, 4 subjects at day 7, 3 subjects at day 14 and 2 subjects at day 21 while the subjects were different. At day 28 HCMV could not be detected. EBV-1 was not detectable in GCF during the experimental gingivitis. HCMV was detected in saliva in 4 subjects and EBV-1 was in 3 subjects. And there is no relationship between the detection of the herpesviruses and the clinical parameters as well.
CONCLUSIONWe suggest that HCMV and EBV-1 are not the important factors during the initial stage of gingival inflammation.

Journal of Practical Radiology 2015;(9):1435-1438
Objective To analyze the mammographic features of invasive lobular carcinoma (ILC)compared to those of invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC).Methods Twenty cases with ILC and 95 cases with IDC were retrospectively evaluated by two breast radi-ologists according to the Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System (BI-RADS)lexicon.The mammographic findings were com-pared between ILC and IDC with the independent samples chi-square test or Fisher’s exact test,as appropriate. Results Mass was the most common finding in both ILCs and IDCs,but less frequent in ILCs (36.4% vs 63.9%,P =0.008).Mass in ILCs was more frequently lobular or irregular shape with spiculated margin.Architectural distortion and focal asymmetry were more frequent in ILCs than in IDCs,however, the differences were no significant. The frequency of calcifications was not significantly different between the two groups. The distributions of calcifications were more regional in ILCs,and more segmental or linear in IDCs (P =0.01).Conclu-sion ILCs are more usually shown as non-mass appearances on mammography.ILCs that appeared as mass are more frequently ir-regular in shape with spiculated margins.

The roots of Pittosporum glabratum Lindl. (Pittosporaceae) have been used as a folk medicine for the treatment of rheumatic arthritis, insomnia and hypertension. Only a few chemical or biological studies on P. glabratum have been reported. As part of our ongoing phytochemical research on this plant, four compounds were isolated. Their structures were identified as 3beta, 6beta, 19alpha, 21alpha, 24-pentahydroxy-12-en-28-oleanolic acid (1), 3-O-beta-D-glucuronopyranosyl-28-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl siaresinolic acid (2), 3, 4, 5-trimethoxyphenyl-1-O-beta-D-(5-O-syringoyl)-apiofuranosyl-(1 --> 6)-beta-D-glucopyranoside (3) and 3, 4, 5-trimethoxyphenol-1-O-beta-D-apiofuranosyl-(1 --> 6)-beta-D-glucopyranoside (4) on the basis of physical evidence and spectroscopic analysis. Among them, compound 1 is a new triterpenoid, and compounds 2-4 are isolated from the genus Pittosporum for the first time.

OBJECTIVETo explore anti-cancer effect and mechanism of green tea extract (GTE) in three human oral squamous carcinoma cell lines (CAL-27, SCC-25 and KB).
METHODSThe cell lines were in vitro cultured and its growth inhibition was detected by MTT. After screening most sensitive cell line, effect of GTE on CAL-27 cell cycle was analyzed by flow cytometry. The protein expression of GTE on CAL-27 cell strain was determined by protein chip technique. The protein expression of CDK4, CDK6, and p-PDK1 was verified by using Western blot.
RESULTSCompared with the control group, the inhibition rate on CAL-27 increased significantly after treated by 50, 100, 200, and 400 μg/mL GTE; the inhibition rate on KB increased after treated by 100, 200, and 400 μg/mL GTE; the inhibition rate on SCC-25 increased after treated by 25, 50, 100, 200, and 400 μg/mL GTE, all with statistical difference and in dose dependant manner (P < 0.01). Flow cytometric analysis showed that, when compared with the control group, 50 μg/mL GTE arrested CAL-27 cells in the G2/M phase (P < 0.05), and 100 μg/mL GTE arrested CAL-27 cells in the G2/M phase with concurrent decreased cells in the G0/G1 phase (P < 0.01). Totally 107 proteins were analyzed by protein chip technique. After treated by GTE, a total of 13 proteins significantly changed in CAL-27 cell line. Western blot showed that 25, 50, and 100 μg/mL GTE inhibited the expression of phopho-phosphoinositide-dependent protein kinase 1 (p-PDK1), cyclin-dependent kinase 4 (CDK4), and CDK6 of CAL-27 cell line with statistical difference (P < 0.05). The higher the drug concentration, the higher the inhibition rate (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONSGTE could inhibit the proliferation of different human oral squamous carcinoma cell lines. CAL-27 is a sensitive cell line. GTE significantly affected EGFR and Notch signal network, and influenced changes of cell cycle related protein expression levels through the aforesaid channels, resulting in cell cycle arrest in S and G2/M phases.

Chinese Journal of Stomatology 2004;39(1):42-44
OBJECTIVETo observe the changes of clinical conditions, and measure the GCF volume during the experimental gingivitis in Chinese for studying the relationship between the GCF volume and the development of gingival inflammation.
METHODS11 young male subjects with healthy gingiva, who had no systemic diseases, were selected for this study. GCF samples (18 teeth/person) were collected with strips of filter paper and the clinical parameters were recorded at the baseline (0 day), the 7th, 14th, 21st day (without oral hygiene), and 28th day (7 days after reestablishing oral hygiene) during experimental gingivitis. The GCF volume was measured by weighting.
RESULTSDuring the experimental gingivitis, all of the clinical parameters plaque index (PLI), bleeding index (BI), gingival index (GI) and probing index (PD) increased gradually following the plaque assembling, there were significant differences comparing the data of baseline with the data of afterwards without oral hygiene. On the 28th day, the data reduced to the level of baseline rapidly. The amount of GCF had the same tendency with the clinical parameters during the experimental gingivitis. There was positive correlation between the amount of GCF and clinical parameters.
CONCLUSIONThe amount of GCF can reflect the development of gingival inflammation.

OBJECTIVETo explore the molecular biological mechanism of acupuncture and moxibustion for relieving myelosuppression and increasing white blood cells.
METHODSTwo hundred and twenty-four clean male Kunming mice were randomly divided into a control group, a model group, an acupuncture group and a moxibustion group, 56 mice in each group. The model of myelosuppression was made with Cyclophosphamide. In the acupuncture group and the moxibustion group, acupoints "Dazhui" (GV 14), "Geshu" (BL 17), "Shenshu" (BL 23) and "Zusanli" (ST 36) were used for treatment with acupuncture and moxibustion, respectively, while, in the control group and the model group, there were no treatment carried out except catching and fixing. The changes of bone marrow cell DNA pol beta and XPD between the 2nd and 7th day were examined with immunohistochemical method.
RESULTSAcupuncture and moxibustion markedly up-regulated the expression of bone marrow cell DNA pol beta and XPD, and promoted the base excision repair and nucleotide excision repair, which leads to the relieving Cyclophosphamide-induced myelosuppression and increasing the number of white blood cells.
CONCLUSIONFor acupuncture and moxibustion, one of the bone major mechanisms in relieving post-chemotherapy myelosuppression, protecting hemopoietic function and increasing the white blood cells is that it can promote the repair of the bone marrow cell DNA excision and protect hemopoietic cells from injury by chemical drugs.
