1.Epidemiology of HIV/AIDS infection in sentinel provinces and initial interventions in two provinces of the South of Vietnam (1999-2002)
Journal of Practical Medicine 2003;450(4):17-22
An inquiry was conducted in HIV/AIDS cases and AIDS deaths in 21 sentinel provinces in the period of 1999-2001. In An Giang, Kien Giang provinces, sex female workers underwent interview, intervention, blood examination,… Results showed an increasing tendence of HIV with complex evolution in morphology, in infective objects, in age. There were considerable defferences between various region. The incidence in male was 85.73% and female 14.24%. Among male HIV infected, the incidence in North was higher than in South regions. 61.9% of infections were
drug users and the incidence was difference between various locations. There was a tendence of raising of sexual transmitted infection and the prostitutes were rather high risk transmitted people with their low knowlegde on HIV/AIDS, on STD, the prevention ways, low rate of condom use. After intervention there was an enhance of their user of these measures

2.Remark on the mortality hemorrhagic fever in Viet Nam, year 2002
Journal of Practical Medicine 2003;442(2):89-91
42 cases of death due to hemorrhagic fever in the year 2002 showed that: they were mainly (90.5%) in South provinces, mainly at the age under 15 (90.5%). The most died within 48 hours after the admission into hospital (73.8%), 26.2% after 3nd day and 92.2% within 5-6 days after the recovery. 85.7% of deaths were at commune level and provincial level. Hemorrhagic common symptoms were usually: blood vomitting (47.6%), hemorrhagic points (42.9%), nasal hemorrhagic 47.6%, gengive hemorrhage 16.7% and erythema (11.9%)

3.Dengue fever/dengue haemorrhagic fever (DF/DHF) in three Southern provinces real situation, reason and solution
Journal of Preventive Medicine 2002;12(1):5-10
In 1997, a big outbreak of DF/DHF occurred in the South of Viet Nam, especially in 3 provinces: Tra Vinh, Ca Mau and Kien Giang. Morbidity and mortality of the disease is highest in these provinces. Although ULV insecticide spray was carried out several times during the year, DF/DHF situation was not improved. Result of dengue vector surveillance shows that Breteau index of Ae.aegypti was from 5 to 11 times higher than dengue transmitting risk, 83-100% houses infecting with Ae.aegypti larvae. Key breeding sites of the mosquitoes were not affected by control activities are the main reason leading to persistence of DF/DHF in the areas.

Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of Jianpi Huatan Decoction plus Zhongwan (RN12) moxibustion on patients of mild to moderate stable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) with syndrome of qi deficiency of lung and spleen, and analyze the related influencing factors. Methods With prospective randomized clinical trial, 140 cases of mild to moderate stable COPD were randomized into two groups (70 cases for each group). Treatment group was treated by Jianpi Huatan Decoction plus Zhongwan moxibustion based on western medicine, and control group was only treated by western medicine. Both groups were treated for 12 weeks and followed up for 12 weeks. Scores of clinical symptoms and quality of life questionnaire were examined, and multiple logistic regression analysis was used to find possible impacting factors on the effect. Results Symptoms were significantly alleviated after treatment (P<0.01) in both groups. The clinical effects and quality of life in treatment group were significantly improved than the control group (P<0.01). There were no significant changes in life quality of control group ( P>0.05). Multiple logistic regression analysis showed that different therapies and severity of COPD were the major influencing factors of clinical effect (P<0.05, P<0.01). Conclusion Jianpi Huatan Decoction plus Zhongwan moxibustion had significant therapeutic effect on mild to moderate stable COPD patients with syndrome of qi deficiency of lung and spleen by alleviating symptoms and improving quality of life. Treatment style and severity of COPD are the main influencing factors.

A series of novel tetrahydrocarboline derivatives was designed and synthesized in order to discover more potent peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR) alpha/gamma dual regulators. The structures of these compounds were confirmed by 1H NMR and HR-MS; their PPAR-regulating activities were evaluated in vitro. Compounds 6h, 6n, 6p and 6q exhibited more potent PPARalpha agonistic activities than the control drug WY14643, while compounds 60, 6g, 6i and 6q exhibited more potent PPARgamma agonistic activities than the control drug rosiglitazone. Compound 6q was discovered as a potent PPARalpha/gamma dual agonist and deserves further investigation.

A series of tetrahydroisoquinoline derivatives were prepared and their peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR) alpha/gamma agonistic activities were evaluated to obtain more potent PPAR agonist. All of them were new compounds, and their structures were confirmed by 1H NMR and HR-MS. Three compounds exhibited higher agonistic activities of PPARgamma than that of the comparison, six compounds exhibited higher agonistic activities of PPARalpha than that of the comparison, and compound 8a was discovered as a highly potent PPARalpha/gamma agonist that is much more active than that of WY14643 and rosiglitazone. The development of potent PPAR agonists may offer a new choice for the treatment of diabetes.

Chinese Journal of Endocrinology and Metabolism 2010;26(9):799-802
The blood insulin levels of insulin resistant monosodium glutamate induced mice (IR-MSG)and hyperglycemic monosodium glutamate mice (HG-MSG) markedly increased ( P<0. 01 ), and the weight index of pancreas significantly decreased ( P<0. 01 ), accompanied with overt inflammatory infiltration in the exocrine part of pancreas. Besides, insulin and glucagon in the islets also markedly increased with irregular distribution ( P<0.01 ). Compared to IR-MSG mice, HG-MSG mice showed overt hyperglycemia and much lower blood insulin. Moreover, the weight of pancreas in HG-MSG mice markedly decreased ( P < 0.05 ), along with less insulin and more glucagon in the lessened and contracted islets, suggesting that the injury of pancreas in the HGMSG mice might be more severe, which may result in hyperglycemia.

AlM:To explore the primary culture conditions for four kinds of lens epithelial cells ( LECs) of rat, rabbit, dog, and human, and measure their growth characteristics.METHODS:The lens capsule or anterior capsular tissue of rat, rabbit, dog and patient were removed by different methods, and they were cut into tiny pieces for primary culture by modified tissue adherent method. The morphological features of four kinds of LECs were observed under an inverted microscope.RESULTS: Four kinds of LECs of rat, rabbit, dog and human could be cultured primarily by tissue adherent method. With the evolution of tissue source, the adherent capacity of LECs gradually strengthened, cells form were changed from irregular polygon to oval, nucleus rounded and cytoplasm enriched gradually. Four kinds of LECs had fibrotic changes after several passages.CONCLUSlON: LECs of rat, rabbit, dog and human can be primarily cultured. This method lays the foundation for the mechanism research of caratact and related fields on the cellular and molecular levels.
