AIM: To compare the efficacy and safety of bevacizumab with mitomycin ( MMC ) in augmenting trabeculectomy for glaucoma.
METHODS: Databases including PubMed, CBM, CNKI, VIP and WanFang Data were electronically searched for all randomized controlled trials ( RCTs) about comparing the efficacy and safety between bevacizumab and MMC in augmenting trabeculectomy for glaucoma before the date of Jun. 2016. Two reviewers independently screened literatures according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, and evaluated the included studies. Then, Meta-analysis was performed.
RESULTS: A total 4 RCT involving 286 eyes ( 143 for bevacizumab group, 143 for MMC group) were included. The results of Meta-analysis showed that there was no significant difference between bevacizumab and MMC in the last follow-up after surgery in IOP (WMD=2. 21, 95%CI: -0.17 to 4.58, P=0.07), complete success rate (OR=0. 69, 95%CI:0. 26 to 1. 81, P=0. 45) and the numbers of anti-glaucoma medicine ( OR= 0. 12, 95%CI: -0. 15 to 0.39,P=0. 39). And there was no significant difference between bevacizumab and MMC in postoperative complications:hypotony (OR=0.7, 95%CI:0.12 to 4.05, P=0.69), bleb leak (OR=1, 95%CI: 0. 21 to 4. 74,P=1), encapsulated bleb (OR=1. 15, 95%CI: 0. 38 to 3. 44, P=0.81), choroidal detachment (OR=1. 22, 95%CI: 0. 29 to 5.22, P=0. 78) and cataract (OR=1. 15, 95%CI: 0. 38 to 3.44, P=0. 81).
CONCLUSION: Bevacizumab and MMC in augmenting trabeculectomy for glaucoma have similar efficacy and safety. Bevacizumab can't result in better outcome in term of IOP reduction. Clinicians should choose suitable solution according to disease characteristics.

Objective To explore the effect of preoperative chemotherapy for children with malignant extragonadial germinoma. Methods Twenty patients with malignant extrogonadal germinoma had been treated with preoperative chemotherapy from Mar.2003 to Mar.2007.Protocol 1 of chemotherapy was to improve PEB:(cisplatin plus etoposide plus bleomycin A5);Protocol 2 was VAC(vincristine plus actinomycin D plus cyclophosphamide) the average time span of the chemotherapy was 16 weeks.Upon completion of chemotherapy,tumor resection was performed.The content of alpha fetoprotein(AFP) was determined before operation and compared with the content before chemotherapy.Re-gular follow-up procedure was taken after operation. Results All 20 patients received chemotherapy and underwent operation.The removal rate of resection operation was 100%,the process of operation was smooth.The volume of tumors in 14 patients decreased over 50% compared with those before chemotherapy.The response rate was 70%.The content of AFP decreased significantly in 15 patients(75%).Fifteen patients had been living without tumor for up to 2 years,for 5 cases the survival time went beyond 5 years. Conclusions Malignant extrogonadal ger-minoma in children grow infiltratively,bring detrimental effects to neighboring organs,and bring obstacles to resection operation.Chemotherapy for children with malignant extragonadal germinoma before operation can reduce volume of tumor and bleeding during operation,raise the resectability rate and lower the content of AFP.It will enhance the effectiveness of operation and improve prognosis.Therefore,it can be used as a conventional clinical method.

BACKGROUND:DCLK1 is a transmembrane microtubule-associated kinase in neurons after mitotic division, which may be the intestinal cancer stem cel marker. OBJECTIVE:To observe the expression and pathological significance of DCLK1 and Ki67 in colorectal cancer. METHODS: Expression of Ki67 and DCLK1 in 150 cases of colorectal cancer tissues was detected by immunohistochemical method in contrast to normal colorectal mucosa, para-carcinoma tissue, and adenoma tissue. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:The expression rates of DCLK1 and Ki67 were 36.7% and 34.7% in cancer tissues, respectively, both of which were significantly higher than those in normal colorectal mucosa and adenoma. The expression of DCLK1 was associated with the location, depth of invasion, lymph node metastasis (P < 0.05), while the expression of Ki67 was just associated with the depth of invasion (P < 0.05). There was a negative correlation between the expression of DCLK1 and Ki67 (r=-0.460,P=0.000). The count of DCLK1+/Ki67-cels was about 2.01% in colorectal cancer tissues, and these cels mainly distributed at the bottom of intestinal mucosa base and common duct wal. DCLK1+/Ki67- cels were oval, the nuclei were large and deep-stained with prominent nucleolus, and there was rare nuclear fission and less cytoplasm. From the aspects of cel number, location, and cel morphology, DCLK1+/Ki67- cels are in line with the characteristics of cancer stem cels; therefore, DCLK1+/Ki67-can be used as a cancer stem cel marker of colorectal cancer.

Objective:To investigate the effects of ursolic acid (UA) on the proliferation and differentiation of osteoclasts (OC), and to explore its role in orthodontic force-induced root resorption and its relationship with OC.Methods:The mononuclear / macrophage cells RAW264.7 were induced to the OC.Tacrolimus acid phosphatase (TRAP) staining and bone resorption lacunae observation were used to identify the induction.CCK-8 method was used to select the appropriate concentration of UA for RAW264.7 cell-free biotoxicity and to observe its effect on the proliferation and differentiation of RAW264.7.In experimental groups, UA with gradient concentrations (1.0,2.5,5.0,10.0,20.0and 40.0 μmol·L-1)were added.UA was not added in control group.Results:The TRAP staining and bone resorption lacunae observation showed that after the RAW264.7 cells were induced for 5 d, the TRAP staining positive cells were found;the resorption lacunae were rounded,and oval, etc,the bottom wall was coarser,and the boundary was clear,which indicated that the RAW264.7 cells were successfully differentiated into the osteoclasts.The CCK-8 detection results showed that high concentration of UA (> 10.0 μmol·L-1) significantly inhibited the proliferation of OC;the appropriate concentration of UA (5.0 μmol·L-1) was in the biological safety concentration range and could inhibit the OC proliferation;low concentration of UA (<2.5 μmol·L-1) had no effect.Conclusion:RANKL can induce the differentiation and maturation of RAW264.7 cells.UA is correlated with the proliferation and differentiation of OC;UA has inhibitory effect on OC at the appropriate concentration (5.0 μmol·L-1) in a time-dependent manner.

Objective To explore the effect of Melatonin(MT) on CD4+CD25+ regulatory T cell (CD4+CD25+Tr)and airway inflammation in asthmatic rat.Methods Thirty-two SD rats were randomly divided into 4 groups,8 rats in each group.Asthmatic group:rats were immunized on day 1 and 7 by intraperitoneal inject of mixture of ovalbumin(OVA) and aluminumhydroxide.From day 14,the animals were allenged with aerosolized OVA for 20 min per day for 7 consecutive days.MT group:OVA-sensitized rats were injected intraperitoneally with 0.1 mg/kg MT 30 min before each OVA challenge.Dexamethasone group:OVA-sensitized rats were injected intraperitoneally with 0.5 mg/kg Dexamethasone 30 min before each OVA challenge.Control group:OVA for inhalation and MT for intraperitoneal injection was replaced with saline.After the last challenge,peripheral blood was stained to count the percentage of eosinophil(EOS).Then the rats were lavaged and total leukocytes counts in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid(BALF) were performed after staining with Wright-Giemsa staining.The EOS counts around the airway was counted after the histological section of lung staining with hematoxylin and eosin staining.The serum level of immunoglobulin E(IgE) was detected by immunoenhancement.The change of CD4+CD25+Tr was assessed with flow cytometry.SPSS 10.0 software was applied to analyze data. Objective To study the imaging characteristics of vesical leukoplakia under the cys-toscope imaging system. Methods The characteristics of vesical leukoplakia were observed under the cystoscope imaging system in 556 cases. After anti-infection treatment to these patients, the chan-ges of the characteristic under the cystoseope imaging system were re-observed and compared before and after treatment. SPSS 11.0 software package x2 teat for statistical analysis was used. Results Under the cystoscope imaging system, there were four different imaging manifestations in the 556 pa-tients. These were, from mild to severe, congestive type in 42 cases, spots type in 56 cases, thin macular type in 399 cases and thick macular type in 59 cases. One type could transform to another af-ter anti-infection treatment. When reexamination by the cystoscope, 131 cases got improved, 304 cases had no changes and 121 cases were aggravated. Statistical analysis showed the transformation among the 4 types had significant difference (x2 = 130.92, v=6, P<0.001). From congestive type to spots type, thin macular type and thick macular type, after anti-infection treatment, the ratio of improved cases decreased gradually, however the ratio of aggravated cases and cases without changes increased gradually. Conclusion Vesical leukoplakia could be classified into 4 types initially: congestive type,spots type, thin macular type, thick macular type. The different clinical treatments should be provid-ed.

The mainly antigenic sites for the adenovirus neutraliation are present on Loop1 and Loop2 of hexon.Majority research were focus in the human adenovirus.Little was known on infectious canine hepatitis virus (ICHV), which was also called canine adenovirus typeⅠ.Here,ICHV (the isolated strain) DNA was isolated and purified from the cultured MDCK cells.The Loop1 and Loop2 fragments were amplified by polymerase chain reaction(PCR) method,and then was connected by ligase T4.The target fragment was then connected with vector pET28a.The nucleotide sequence ecoding Loop1 and Loop2 was determined.The nucleotide sequence identity of Loop1 region between the isolated strain and CLL, RI261 and Toronto A26/61 strains is 100%, 100% and 83.8%, and the nucleotide sequence identity of Loop2 region between the isolated strain and CLL, RI261 and Toronto A26/61 strains is 88.1% , 88.1% and 99.3%, and amino acid identity is 93.6%, 93.6% and 98.6%.The recombinant Loop protein was expressed in E.coli and was approximately 36kDa in size,and then was purified. Then BALB/c mice were injected subcutaneously in the back and armpit with the recombinant Loop protein.The anti-ICHV antibody titers of immunized serum was tested by indirect ELISA and the titers were up to 1:320.Western blot demonstrated that immunized sera could specifically combine with ICHV. The research laid a foundation for creating new genetic engineering products of infectious canine hepatitis virus.
