Journal of Clinical Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery 2013;27(11):570-576
OBJECTIVE:
In order to explore the effect of plasma radiofrequency ablation on nasal mucosa provocative tests for allergic rhinitis.
METHOD:
Eighty patients with allergic rhinitis were enrolled in this study. The nasal mucosa provocative tests and nasal airway resistance and subjective nasal patency feeling were studied before and after plasma radiofrequency ablation treatment. The correlation of subjective and objective nasal patency was evaluated.
RESULT:
The preoperative nasal mucosa provocative test of all the patients allergic to mites were positive. The nasal mucosa provocative tests were negative within 72 patients, while remained positive in eight patients after 3 months of operation. The nasal airway resistance decreased from (0.772 +/- 0.224) kPa x s/L to (0.221 +/- 0.112) kPa x s/L after surgery (P < 0.01); Visual analog scale decreased from 7.0 +/- 2.0 to 2.5 +/- 1.5 after 3 months of operation (P < 0.01).
CONCLUSION
Due to its ability to reduce the sensitivity of the nasal mucosa, nasal airway resistance and improve subjective feeling of nasal patency, plasma radiofrequency ablation is effective for the treatment of patients with allergic rhinitis.

Chinese Journal of Industrial Hygiene and Occupational Diseases 2008;26(6):332-335
OBJECTIVETo analyze the toxicity of high-frequency electromagnetic field (HF-EMF) on the reproductive and endocrine functions of female workers.
METHODS180 female workers exposed to HF-EMF for more than one year were selected as the exposure group, and 349 female workers in the marketplace were selected as the control group. Their menstrual status and pregnancy outcomes were evaluated with historical cohort study. Meanwhile, the serum levels of reproductive hormones including follicle stimulation hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), estradiol (E(2)) and progesterone (P(4)) from 30 workers respectively in the exposure group and the control group selected randomly (in periovulatory period) were detected with the radio immunoassays.
RESULTSWith the increase of residue of HF-EMF, the incidence of menstrual disorder was increased (33.8% and 26.8% in the exposure group compared with 12.0% in the control group) (P < 0.01) and the incidence of menorrhagia in the exposure I group (16.9%) was significantly higher than that in the control group (8.0%) (P < 0.01). However, serum P(4) was significantly lower in the exposure group [(2.10 +/- 1.57) and (2.39 +/- 1.35) mg/L] than in the control group [(3.80 +/- 2.67) mg/L] (P < 0.01). There was no significant difference in serum E(2), LH and FSH between the exposure and the control groups.
CONCLUSIONIncrease of the incidence of menstrual disorder as well as that of menorrhagia, and decrease of levels of some reproductive hormones are closely associated with HF-EMF (25 approximately 30 MHz).

Objective To study whether CETP TaqIB,KCNE1 S38G and eNOS T-786C genetic polymorphisms are associated with non-valvular atrial fibrillation in the Han population from Zhejiang province. Methods Polymerase chain reaction restriction fragment length polymorphism assay was used to detect the distribution of alleles and genotypes of CETP TaqIB,KCNE1 S38G and eNOS T-786C in 147 patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation and in 147 subjects as controls in Han population of Zhejiang province. Results (1)The frequency of CETP B1 allele in NVAF patients was higher than that of the control group and showing a statistically significant difference(OR=1.763,95%CI:1.247-2.492.P=0.002). (2) Results from logistic regression analysis revealed that: after adjustment of confounding variables such as sex, age, smoking, hypertension and body mass index, data from the binary logistic analysis showed a statistically significant difference in CETP TaqIB genetic polymorphism between Patients and controls.(3)From multifactor dimensionality reduction analysis, results showed an interaction of CETP TaqIB,KCNE1 S38G and eNOS T-786C genetic polymorphisms.Odds ratio of the three simultaneously existing genetic polymorphisms was 1.849 times more than CETP TaqIB alone. Conclusion CETP BI allele was an independent risk factor for predisposition to non- valvular atrial fibrillation. These findings suggested that the simultaneous existence of CETP B1,KCNE1 S38G and eNOS T-786C allele might be elevated with the predisposition to non-valvular atrial fibrillation in the Han population of Zhejiang province.

OBJECTIVESTo study the relationship between HBV genotypes and the efficacy of antiviral therapies.
METHODSHBV genotypes of 90 hepatitis B e antigen positive patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB) were determined by PCR sandwich hybridization-ELISA technique. Forty-one patients with CHB were treated with lamivudine (100 mg/day) for 48 weeks and 49 patients with CHB were given alpha-interferon (3 MU/QOD) therapy for 48 weeks. The serological, biochemical and virological symbols were measured before, during and after treatment for all the patients.
RESULTSOf the 90 patients, genotype B HBV was found in 16 and C in 74. There was no difference in the rate of response to lamivudine treatment between patients with genotype B or C HBV (33.3% vs. 20.0%) after 48 weeks treatment with lamivudine in the 41 patients. Of the 49 HBeAg positive CHB patients treated with alpha-interferon for 48 weeks, in HBV genotype B and C patients the rates of normalization of ALT were 60.0% and 20.5%; the rate of HBeAg turning to negativity was 50.0% and 17.9%; and the rate of HBV DNA undetectability was 50.0% and 17.9%. The rate of response to the interferon treatment was significantly higher in patients with HBV genotype B compared to those with genotype C.
CONCLUSIONSOur study shows that there is no influence on the lamivudine treatment effects for the HBV genotype B and C CHB patients, but the alpha-interferon treatment for HBV genotype B CHB patients is more effective than that for the genotype C ones.

OBJECTIVE:
To explore the change rules of peak area ratio of STR loci to Amelogenin (AMEL) locus (STR/AMEL), a sex-determining gene in DNA degradation, and to evaluate the application of STR/AMEL value in the estimation of DNA degradation degree.
METHODS:
DNA was extracted from iliopsoas, and the variations of STR/AMEL value (Penta E/AMEL, Penta D/AMEL, FGA/AMEL) were analyzed after the artificial degradation was made by DNase I, and the changes of these three ratios of the iliopsoas naturally degraded in an outdoor environment were also analyzed. The regression curves were analyzed using the periods of DNA degradation and outside the body as the independent variable (x) and the STR/AMEL value as the dependent variable (y) and three curve equations under two conditions were established.
RESULTS:
Both under the conditions of artificial and natural degradation, STR/AMEL value had a negative relationship with the degradation time. The relationship between STR/AMEL and degradation time can be well simulated by the cubic function. R2 was over 0.99 under controlled degradation condition and over 0.86 under natural degradation condition.
CONCLUSION
The STR/AMEL value (Penta E/AMEL, Penta D/AMEL, FGA/AMEL) is negatively related with the DNA degradation degree, which follows mathematical regression models strictly, and it might be applied to evaluate the DNA degradation degree.
