AIM: To investigate the expression pattern of apolipoprotein M (apoM) protein in renal cortex of a-cute renal failure ( ARF) rats with reperfusion. METHODS: Seventy - five male rats were randomly divided into sham operation group (re =25) , ARF group (n =25) and pyrrolidine dithiocarbamat (PDTC) group (n =25) , five subgroups at time points of 3 h, 6 h, 12 h, 24 h and 48 h after reperfusion were set up in each group. The expressions of apoM in cytoplasm and NF - κB p65 in nucleus of renal cortex were detected at the indicated time points. RESULTS: The expression of apoM in ARF group was obviously higher than that in sham operation group ( P <0.01 ) , and two peaks were detected, the first peak was at 6 h after reperfusion, while the second one was from 24 h to 48 h. The tendency of apoM expression in PDTC group was similar to that in ARF group, while the expression in every subgroup was prevalently lower than that in ARF group (P < 0.01). Otherwise, a significant correlation ( r = 0.852, P < 0.01) was found between the expression of apoM and NF -κB p65.CONCLUSION: The results indicate that apoM feasibly take part in the pathogenesis of ARF through the inflammatory reaction mediated by NF - κB.

Objective To investigate the feasibility and the preliminary curative effect of the deep inferior epigagtrie perforator(DIEP)flap for child's foot and malleolus reconstruction. Methods A series of 5 child patients were treated with DIEP flap from August to December in 2007.All of them had foot and malleolus defects secondary to traumatic injuries and significant exposure of the tendons and skeleton. The maximum defect Wag 17 cm×6 em in size, the minimum defect Was 11 cm x 6 cm in size.In 2 eases, suture the inferior epigastric artery(vein)to the anterior tibial artery(vein). In 1 case, suture the inferior epigagtric artery(vein)to the dorsal artery (vein)of foot.In 2 cases, suture the inferior epigastric artery (vein)to the posterior tibial artery(vein). The minimum flap in size was 12 cm×7 cm.The maximum flap in size was 18 cm×7 cm.The donor site of the DIEP flaps Wag always closed primarily. Results Donorsite and receptor-site weIe primary healing in all patients. The mean follow-up was 3 months(range from 1to 5 months),all flaps survived with excellent color and quality, and no extremely fat contour. In 4 cases,a protective sensation Wag regained. The patient has obtained the good function of foot and malleohs. The abdomen contour resumes satisfaction, and the abdominal wall competency is preserved. Conclusion Abdominal wall competency is preserved because no muscle or fascia is included.DIEP flap is so thin that not required second-stage operation for debulking. In brief,it is believed that the DIEP flap is an ideal technique for foot and malleolus reconstruction of child patients, which meets the new concept of mieresurgery.

Aim To study absorption characteristics of SM-1 , a novel anti-tumor agent , to provide a research basis for the druggability evaluation of SM-1 and formu-lation design. Methods Caco-2 cell monolayer model and in situ single-pass intestinal perfusion rat model were used to study the absorption characteristics of SM-1 , and the absorption of SM-1 in vivo was evaluated through absolute bioavailability study in rats. Results The results of cell monolayer model showed that cu-mulative absorption and efflux of SM-1 increased line-arly with concentration ( 10 ~40 mg · L-1 ) . There were no significant differences in Papp with different concentrations ( P>0. 05 ) . SM-1 was absorbed mainly through passive diffusion. The intestinal perfusion re-sults showed that Ka and Pef of SM-1 had no significant differences ( P > 0. 05 ) , when the concentrations ranged from 25 to 100 mg · L-1 . SM-1 entered the systemic circulation mainly via on passive diffusion, indicating it is a compound with high permeability. The absorption of SM-1 in duodenum was superior to other intestinal segments ( P <0. 05 ) , there were no significant differences in the jejunum, ileum and colon ( P >0. 05 ) . The absolute bioavailability of SM-1 in rats was 29. 3%. Conclusion The membrane perme-ability of SM-1 is high and it can be absorbed by intes-tine well. The absorption mechanism of SM-1 is pas-sive diffusion, and it possibly escapes from the efflux transporter protein. The absolute bioavailability of SM-1 in rats is low.

AIM: To investigate the expression of EMMPRIN, MMP1, MMP9 and TIMP2 in retinoblastoma (RB) and normal retinal tissues and their clinicopathological significance and interrelationship.METHODS: Envision immunohistochemistry stainings of EMMPRIN, MMP1, MMP9 and TIMP2 were performed in 30 enucleated eyeballs with retinoblastoma and 15 specimens of normal retina tissue, which had been routinely imbedded with paraffin.RESULTS: Positive rate of EMMPRIN, MMP1, MMP9 expression was higher in RB tissue than in normal control (P<0.01), while TIMP2 expression was lower in RB than in normal retinal tissue (P<0.01). Samples from RB cases of clinical stage Ⅰ, differentiated type, and life span≥2 years had lower positive rate in expression of EMMPRIN, MMP1, MMP9 than those from RB cases of clinical stage Ⅲ, undifferentiated type, and life span<2 years (P<0.05 or P<0.01), while samples from RB cases of differentiated type, optic nerve unaffected, and life span≥2 years had markedly higher positive rate in expression of TIMP2 than those from RB cases of undifferentiated type, optic nerve involved and life span<2 years (P<0.05 or P<0.01). In RB tissues, EMMPRIN, MMP1, MMP9 expressions were highly consistent (P<0.05), whereas TIMP2 expression is highly inconsistent with EMMPRIN, MMP1, MMP9 expression levels (P<0.05).CONCLUSION: The expression level of EMMPRIN, MMP1, MMP9 and TIMP2 may be an important marker of RB progression, invasion and prognosis. There exist internally mutual regulation relations among them.
